President Joe Biden has pardoned his son Hunter Biden nearly seven weeks before President Biden leaves the White House. The pardon comes months after Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to federal tax charges on the same day jury selection in his trial was scheduled to begin.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," President Biden said. "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form. Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently."

The charges against Biden carry a maximum penalty of up to 17 years in prison. However, the Justice Department has noted that sentences issued for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties.

Biden was scheduled to be sentenced in December.

The president's son was accused of engaging in a four-year scheme to evade paying taxes totaling at least $1.4 million and falsifying some of his tax returns by claiming personal spending as business expenses.

Political persecution seems to fit that bill very well.

Republican or Democrat, it’s pretty disgusting. This legal get outta jail free system should be seriously reviewed. I don’t understand the constitutionality of it but I think most people believe it’s intended to be a system reserved for righting egregious legal wrongs, not rewarding and protecting friends and family. I’m old enough to know both parties do this but it’s no less disgusting.

Roger Stone –Trump ally convicted of lying to Congress regarding his attempts to contact WikiLeaks after the website released damaging emails about Trump's 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton.

Paul Manafort – Former Trump campaign chairman convicted of financial fraud, alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and conspiring to obstruct the investigation.

Steve Bannon – Former Trump adviser charged with fraud related to a border wall fundraising campaign. Pardoned as one of Trump's final acts in office.

George Papadopoulos – Former Trump campaign adviser convicted of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian intermediaries prior to the 2016 election.

Albert Pirro – The ex-husband of Trump ally Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News Channel host, convicted of conspiracy and tax evasion charges.

Joe Arpaio – Former Arizona sheriff convicted of contempt of court for targeting immigrants.

Charles Kushner – Father of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, convicted of tax evasion and witness tampering, and recently nominated by Trump as the U.S.'s ambassador to France.

He not only pardoned Kushner he is rewarding him with an ambassadorship.

Where was your outrage then? His own cronies many of which worked with him in The White House while committing these crimes? Now suddenly you and others try to display some faux outrage. You're all hilarious.

So how was he wrong?

From a historical perspective, pardons were to correct an injustice of the justice system, and took quite an effort for independent review to assure that the pardon was based on its merits.

I believe Clinton got lambasted for one of his.

Trump handed the pardons out like get free pancakes at an all you can eat breakfast buffet. They went to his buddies for getting caught with their hands caught in the cookie jar. You’re his buddy and you were caught doing things you should not have done, here you go.

That’s what is wrong.

Most of the time when trying to determine a winner one keeps score. You are not wrong that Biden should never have done this. But when looking at the scoreboard he is well behind the leader in the self serving pardon department.

I think a lot of the Obama pardons were associated with "The War on Drugs" sentences that were vogue in the 80's/90's.

That is not the same as handing your personal friend a "Get out of jail free card" for doing your dirty work and getting caught.

If you recall, one of Hunters contention for that guilty plea that was ultimately tossed out was immunity from future prosecution if a republican administration came back into power. He got his wish. Given the list of Trumps cabinet nominees, Hunter probably needed it.

The flavor of politics these days it to go for the jugular now, and to hope that you will not be a victim when your party is out of power.

When Trump and his surrogates threatens revenge on those of the opposition and their families then, well, the opposition has every right to defend themselves from that revenge full stop.

If Trump was going to go all dictator mode and slaughter his enemies, do you think this pardon would stop him? C'mon man, the thing.

Did he pardon "personal friends?" Sure. Did he issue blanket pardons to family members? He did not. Was that something that people were wringing their hands over before he left office? Yep.

Well, well, it took you a long time to admit that he was pardoning personal friends, or cronies, or henchmen, or whatever you want to call them. Luckily no Trump family members were in Hunter's situation.

And yet you still ignore what the real issue is because all you want to see is "but Trump". An 11 year blanket pardon for his son kinda trumps anything Trump did.

So pardoning multiple people that he himself brought into the White House that were doing his own bidding "isn't as bad"? And let's face it, all of the cumulative things trump has done has been excused by the right by blaming it all on the left. And on this board ignoring it all together. All you've had in response is "TDS!" Some grade school, school yard BS to take the focus of everything he's done. And now you want to point that finger in the other direction? Hilarious.

You ignored those issues for four years and now pretend you have some gotchya moment.
