We've debated the merits of the bill itself, but the GOP not even attempting to work with it was due largely due to Trump's influence. There's definitely some history re-writing going on here.

As I said before, it's not that they opposed it that surprises me, it's that they didn't even try. They had the dems on the ropes with the border being how it was and they passed on what has been their most consistent and reliable battle cry.

Trump will figure out a way to end catch and release, probably on January 20. Remain in Mexico is a start. If we need the corp of engineers to build simple dorms at the border we do it. But once the prospect of being admitted to America and released into the country is removed the flow of people will slow to a relative trickle. And then, to the chagrin of you lefties, Americans can start feeling safer as the people who do not belong here are removed. It's kinda crazy how the immigration argument has morphed during this recent campaign. Over the past decade we've used the word immigrants to also cover illegal aliens. But then during this campaign, Trump pushed the border issue. He talked in generalities about how we're having all these criminals and terrible people coming across the border... but the only specific population that was discussed were the Springfield Haitians (who are here legally).

I really don't think this subtle flip is something we should ignore.


Not to mention, I read that Springfield has been in a steady state of decline for over a decade. When people in real life (ie not over social media or called out on the internet as Vance referred to) talk about the Haitian refugees, they generally talk positively (the factory owner and city council are ones that I've read about). What MAGA is saying they want is for Springfield to return to that steady state of decay.

Honestly, at this point I think I'm all for giving the people what they asked for (and IIRC, Springfield is in an area that voted pretty strong for GOP). I do just hope that these refugees aren't dropped back in the hell-hole they fled from.

Here's the most ridiculous part in all of it. Ohio's governor is Republican. The Ohio AG is Republican. The Clark County Sheriff is a Republican and the mayor of Springfield, Ohio is a Republican.

Dewine is an establishment Republican who was part of the “gang of eight” a couple of decades ago who tried to sneak an amnesty bill past the people. Rush publicized it and the 202 area code melted down. People made it known, for the umpteenth time that amnesty for people who sneaked into our country illegally was a no go.

Here is the irony. This Haitian dumping might not even have come up if you lefties hadn’t made such a mess of the border. If you hadn’t released millions of poorly vetted individuals into the country. If you hadn’t released 500,000 illegals with criminal records into the country. If you made such a mess as to allow 2,000,000+ gotaways into the country. The Haitians have you lefties to thank.

All of these programs lefties have used to circumvent the proper immigration pathway need to be put to sleep. We need to get our house in order. Estimates are we have 20-30 million illegals in our country. That is what, maybe 8% of our total population. That needs to be addressed. Americans are footing the bill for most of this. I just read that in2023 we spent $150 billion on illegals. I wonder how many homeless vets could have been helped with that money?? Oh wait!! Homeless vets are Americans. They are way less important than the people who have broken into our country the last four years.
