Driver rams New Year's revelers in New Orleans, killing 10. FBI investigating as 'act of terrorism'

https://www.yahoo.com/news/fatalities-car-reportedly-plows-group-114235670.html

RIP the victims. to summarize, the suspect intentionally drove into crowds of people, then got out of the vehicle and was killed in a shootout against the cops on the scene.

I feel terrible for all of the victims as well as their friends and families. Now to find out the motive. The case where the CEO was murdered makes me wonder what now passes for terrorism. There are a lot of people targeted for murder with many different motives. Even people like doctors and lawyers due to things directly related to their professional life. Yet I don't recall it ever being called terrorism when they were murdered. Until it was the CEO of a pharmaceutical company.

He didn’t act totally alone. They found an Isis flag in the Ford 150. A US veteran killing US citizens in the name of Isis. Nothing more disgraceful than that.

You know, crap like this didn’t use to happen, at least not so often. I think the political and religious polarizations, the drastic impacts of living in an economy that traps you at the bottom, and the general state of American mental health due to all the pressures… Inflation, housing costs, food costs, medical costs, education costs, etc. Living in situations like that with little chance of upward mobility makes people desperate. Mix desperation with a little bit of psychosis, and society/civility/community all go into decline. This comes with an increase of random heinous crimes, theft, scams, societal divisions, and of course innocent victims.

And you know what’s not going to fix any of this? Making things worse for working-class and poor people. And that is exactly what has been promised, soon to be delivered. And the only way to stop it, IMHO, is for the 99% to say f-dat to the divisions and come together to take our country back from the oligarchic corporatocracy that has a stranglehold on hold on our government and our economy. And that doesn’t mean “Eat the rich”, it means leveling the playing field.

It’s high time all the money stops flowing endlessly up. People can take the American economy back by disengaging with these mega corps, starting small businesses to fill the voids left by the disengagement. And then let people openly know that it might cost a few more bucks to buy from a small business, but investing in your local economy pays huge dividends for your community.

People need to lay down all the BS, reconnect, and begin to defend their communities and country from this decline. Until that begins to happen, we will make zero progress; leaving it to “our leaders” won’t accomplish a damn thing. What I find the saddest is that most of the pain people are feeling has been intentionally inflicted upon us by the “leaders and world beaters” we’ve been systematically programmed to follow. It doesn’t matter where you are on the political or financial spectrum; we can all see the government and its economic prowess has basically become useless for the 99% and only works for those at the top.

And short of some kind of massive civil war or “violent civil unrest”, our best route for a better America for all is to show the 99% how to invest in each other while limiting engagement with billion and trillion dollar corps and oligarchs. I don’t hate the tech bros. But I sometimes find it insane to think about all the money Zuch made off of people sharing cat videos, hot or not posts, and a pic of every freaking meal they’ve consumed since post that crap became a thing. (Those types of posts are a pet peeve of mine.)

What we know about Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Orleans attack

https://abcnews.go.com/US/suspect-new-orleans-attack-bourbon-street/story?id=117247072

The suspect in a deadly attack on New Year's revelers in New Orleans has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S.-born citizen and U.S. Army veteran from Texas, according to the FBI.

At least 15 people were killed and over two dozen injured after a man drove a Ford pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street at a high rate of speed early Wednesday, multiple law enforcement sources and Louisiana Rep. Troy Carter told ABC News.

Authorities are working to determine whether the deceased suspect had any affiliation with terrorist organizations after an ISIS flag was found on a pole on the truck's trailer hitch.

After barreling through the crowd over a three-block stretch, the suspect allegedly got out of the truck wielding an assault rifle and opened fire on police officers, law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told ABC News. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect, police said. At least two police officers were shot and wounded, authorities said.

"This man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could," New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said at a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon. "It was not a DUI situation. This is more complex and more serious."

She said the driver was "hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did."

Weapons and potential IEDs were located in the suspect's vehicle and other potential IEDs were located in the French Quarter, according to the FBI, which is leading the investigation. As of now, two IEDs have been found and rendered safe, the FBI said.

Investigators found homemade pipe bombs at the scene of the Bourbon Street attack, law enforcement sources told ABC News. The crude devices contained coils and nails, the sources said. Authorities also found a grenade, which is among the items tested for viability, sources said.

In addition to the assault rifle, Jabbar was allegedly armed with a handgun, sources with knowledge of the investigation told ABC News.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the horrific incident as a "terrorist attack" and the FBI said it was being investigated as an act of terror.

The suspect is not believed to be "solely responsible" for the attack, according to the FBI, which said it is pursuing leads to identify any of his associates.

New Orleans police have reviewed surveillance video that appears to show several people planting potential explosive devices in advance of the vehicle ramming, leading the FBI to conclude the driver of the pickup truck did not act alone in the attack, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

Investigators are urgently working to identify the individuals who were seen on camera and take them into custody, the sources said.

Jabbar is believed to have been discharged honorably from the Army, though investigators are still looking into his military record, the FBI said.

In a YouTube video posted in 2020, Jabbar says he was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and spent a decade working in the U.S. military before becoming a Realtor in the Houston area. His years in the military were spent working as a human resources and IT specialist, Jabbar says in the video, which has since been removed from YouTube.

Carter told ABC News that the suspect appears to have "lived or spent some time" in the New Orleans area.

The vehicle had a Texas license plate, according to Carter.

The truck used in the attack appeared to be a Ford F-150 Lightning, an electric vehicle. It appears the truck was rented through the Turo app -- a carsharing company, according to Rodrigo Diaz, the owner of the truck.

Diaz told ABC News he rented the truck to an individual through the app and is currently talking to the FBI. He declined further comment.

Diaz's wife, Dora Diaz, told ABC News that she and her husband are devastated by the incident.

"My husband rents cars through the Turo app. I can’t tell you anything else. I’m here with my kids, and this is devastating," Dora Diaz said.

ABC News has reached out to Turo.

Sure looks like an act of domestic terrorism on the behalf of a foreign adversarial terror group enemy. This will give Trump fuel. Muslim hate, denaturalizations, immigrant hate, to overturn birth right citizenship… And there will be a vocal chorus of hate mongers singing him praises. When the truth of the matter is, you would need to be able to read minds to even have a shot at preventing this crap. Attacks like this isn’t a right/left thing, it’s our imperialism coming home to roost, imo. Not the best time to destroy the institutions that protect us from this type of terror cell. Huh?

Yes, a lot has come out since yesterday morning. The more details that come out the clearer the picture is becoming.

But be careful about believing that source. I heard it was part a part of the liberal media.

Trump falsely links New Orleans terror attack to migrants after erroneous Fox News report

New York CNN —

An erroneous early Fox News report about the New Orleans terror attack is warping the political dialogue in the aftermath of the deadly rampage.

The false report from Fox, which was attributed to anonymous sources, confused the public – and evidently President-elect Donald Trump too. The misinformation is still circulating more than 24 hours later – serving as a cautionary tale about the news ecosystem as the new year begins.

During the 10 a.m. hour on Wednesday, Fox reported that the New Orleans suspect’s truck crossed the US border in Eagle Pass, Texas “two days ago.” Some of the right-wing network’s coverage explicitly said “the suspect” drove across the border, leaving viewers with the impression that a foreigner might be responsible for the deadly carnage.

In fact, the New Orleans attack suspect was a US citizen and Army veteran. But those facts weren’t publicly established at the time Fox aired the faulty information.

Eight minutes after the first Fox segment that mentioned the border, Trump issued a statement about “criminals coming in” from other countries. While Trump didn’t mention Fox directly, he is known to be an avid consumer of the cable network and has tapped several of its personalities for his incoming cabinet.

Some of Trump’s family members and political allies also immediately connected the attack to illegal immigration and cited Fox.

“Biden’s parting gift to America — migrant terrorists,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote, sharing the Fox claim on X. “Shut the border down!!!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene exclaimed.

Fox tried to walk back its incorrect report about an hour and a half later. The network said the truck used in the attack was actually in Eagle Pass nearly two months ago, not two days ago. More importantly, the truck was being driven by someone else at that time – it was available on the car rental app Turo – so the detail about the border was completely irrelevant.

But the damage was done. References to Eagle Pass continued to spread across social media. Fox continued to stream a clip on its website of the incorrect information. “Some Republicans continued to beat the border drum well after Fox News retracted its initial report,” The Daily Beast’s Josh Fiallo reported.

Ironically, Trump’s original statement used the New Orleans attack to say that he was right and the “Fake News Media” was wrong about the threat posed by illegal immigration. If he had waited a couple hours to react, he would have learned that the suspect was a US citizen.

A Fox spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment about the misreporting.

In a strange moment on the air Wednesday afternoon, a Fox reporter read Trump’s quote about “criminals coming in” from other countries, then clarified the New Orleans attacker didn’t enter from another country – without noting that it was Fox that seemingly misled Trump into issuing the statement in the first place.

Overnight, Trump continued to post messages on Truth Social assailing “open borders.” After a related segment on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning, Trump wrote, “I said, many times during Rallies, and elsewhere, that Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent crime, will become so bad in America that it will become hard to even imagine or believe. That time has come, only worse than ever imagined.”

Republican lawmakers on Fox have also continued to bring up the southern border during the network’s segments about the New Orleans attack, even though there is no known link.

So that's what you call a direct lie about the perpetrator? Claiming he came across the border to commit this crime? That's not pushing an agenda. That's a bold face lie. But don't worry, I don't expect you to admit it. The man who screams about whatabouts and all.

You were lied to for a few years about Biden's cognitive abilities but yer fine with it because you don't want to admit otherwise. It was a long term series of bold face lies in a cover up. But s'ok by you.

You have no idea how long Biden had problems with his cognitive abilities.

So you don't want to stay on track with the topic at hand and instead use a whatabout? I think we get it.

Yet any time someone else tries to make a comparison you call foul. Now you think it's fine. You know, because you are the one doing it.

FOX News retracted it. trump has stuck to the lie.

Just how sad does someone have to be to sit here and make excuses for a man when you have fourteen families and the victims friends grieving the loss of their loved ones whose bodies had barely had time to get cold and dozens more in the hospital from such a horrific event. They are trying to grieve while trump is telling lies about the killer of their loved ones. Murica! So much for the party of personal responsibility they used to be so proud of.

And all you have in retort is "Yeah but".

Yes, I know. My point is if the FBI and others spent more time looking for these people and not dorking around school board meeting we would be better off today. The last 4 years have been very harmful to American security.

Was there the day it happened. I was not there when it happened. My wife and I made several comments prior to that night how on how loose security was on Bourbon in the whole area by Cafe Beignet.

I met a man who lost his son - the last the man got to see of him was him being run over on video.

So once again you somehow think that the only threats the FBI should be looking at are the threats you deem they should be looking at and that they should be somehow be looking at every American citizen as a threat? What about this mans past would cause the FBI to be looking at him? And exactly who are "these people"? American veterans? It seems you would rather go off on some tangent than address this incident.

This is about the other veteran-the one that blew up a tesla truck in front of a trump property

Vegas Cybertruck Bomber Who Called for ‘Purge’ of Dems Deemed Not a ‘Risk’ to Public After He Sought VA Mental Health Help
Kipp JonesJan 4th, 2025, 7:22 pm

The man police say committed suicide before detonating explosives outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday was deemed not to be a threat to himself or the public after he sought mental health treatment, CNN reported Saturday night.

Investigators in Vegas say Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active-duty Greene Beret, injured seven people in the blast which caused minimal damage to the building but injured seven bystanders. The rented Tesla Cybertruck Livelsberger was driving also sustained significant damage.

Police said on Friday that Livelsberger left behind two messages that were critical of Democrats and American culture. Little else has been confirmed about the decorated war veteran.

Per CNN’s Natasha Chen, Livelsberger recently sought mental health treatment through the Department of Veterans Affairs and was found not to have been homicidal or suicidal.

Chen joined network anchor Jessica Dean and reported of Livelsberger:

He had visited the military Behavioral Health program multiple times in recent months and was diagnosed with depression last year. But he had not been assessed to be a risk to harm himself or others. The day before this explosion, he had sent an email to some online media outlets saying that he was armed and that he had a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. So authorities are really looking through his phone data now to see what else he might have written. There seems to be a log of activity that he wrote for the ten days leading up to this explosion. Again, he had rented this Cybertruck, driven it from Colorado to Nevada, purchased two guns legally, and shortly before this happened. And investigators say he killed himself and set off these explosives almost at the same time right in front of that Trump hotel on New Year’s Day.

In one message released by police Friday, Livelsberger wrote:

Military and vets move on DC starting now. Militias facilitate and augment this activity.

Occupy every major road along fed buildings and the campus of fed buildings by the hundreds of thousands.

Lock the highways around down with semis right after everybody gets in. Hold until the purge is complete.

Try peaceful means first, but be prepared to fight to get the Dems out of the fed government and military by any means necessary. They all must go and a hard reset must occur for our country to avoid collapse.

You can read both of the suspect’s messages in full here.

That is CNN reporting. I have seen other reports.

Nothing about Dems or Republicans.

The reports i have seen show the man in the trucks DNA doesn't match that of his son. Also, why was everything burned to a crisp but magically an ID was found with little damage?

And I bet someone convinced you of that. We saw reports that the man in New Orleans just crossed the border from Mexico two days before he ran over those people too. Of course that turned out to be a lie. And we didn't hear that from CNN either.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

sorry if not that active in this thread. these two losers really embarrassed all of us vets. im sad about the casualties, and angry at these dudes for letting their ideology turn themselves into the very monsters they're supposed to protect the country from.

For me, at least, I don't blame vets, Islam or anyone else but those with evil in their hearts that do or would do these sorts of things. It doesn't become a stain on a group that they belonged to, unless the group as a whole, perpatrates or influences this sort of thing.

Frank, unfortunately what we see throughout human history - including our country - is political extremism from vets immediately following the end of a conflict/war. obviously not the majority, but it's a reality that should be addressed.

just to maybe shed some light on something to enhance the point:

im sure you obviously know there's US vets who have decided to individually go to Ukraine and help the resistance. But we also have a number of US citizens - some who are also former vets - fighting for the side of Russia. regardless of sides, i would consider that a symptom of post-war radicalism in veterans.
