refs...last week, between june 23 (24, 25, 26) and june 27, I was unable to log on to DawgTalk. I assumed that the board was having issues and was down.

Now that I'm back on the board, I've tried to find out  what the reason was for my inability to  log on last week, as it appears that the board was not down and that was not the reason for my problem logging on.

I would appreciate knowing the reason I was unable log on last week, from 6/23 to 6/27...thank you, mac

The board was down the 24th-26th. As far as the other two days, I see nothing that would have caused you to not be able to log in.

As far as I'm aware, the server was unavailable until roughly 11:00am Eastern Daylight Time on the 27th. If you had difficulties past that, it was nothing to do with the site.

This is what I’m seeing in Safari but I can come to the site in Firefox by clicking go to the site anyways.

I just received a similar message on Firefox this morning.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Purp, your SSL expired two days ago according to my chrome browser giving me the old unsafe warning with an option to proceed.

This isn’t a logon issue, just a browser warning and it trying to keep me safe.

The SSL certificate expired October 26th. You need to go to Sectigo and renew it to browsers stop telling users it's a security risk. A lot a corporate controlled PCs will not allow browsers to connect to websites that have expired SSL certs as they can pose a security risk.

Yes, the SSL cert expired. I am aware and I apologize for not having corrected it, yet. I'm not going to bore anyone with details, but life has been .... busy, lately, and unless I find the energy to do this at midnight, I just haven't had the time.

I sincerely intended to try to get to it today, but the Day Job is doing its best to &*^*& that up for me.

Here's the Good News: There is nothing wrong with the site and it continues, and will continue, to function normally like this unless you are, like DaveyD, on a corporate laptop where you have Nazi admins, lol grin
I *promise*, that I will be getting to this as soon as I can (the cert is already paid for, I literally just have to renew it and get it in place), but I have what feels like 15 deadlines for 47 different things all hitting me right now, so I am piecemealing myself on these smaller tasks and I haven't even sat at my home PC for days.

Discovered that I have to turn off the VPN, log in and then turn the VPN on to be able to even get the log in page to load.

That would almost certainly be an issue with the VPN.

I would question whomever makes your VPN what they're doing in terms of filtering.
It would be interesting to know, however, what the VPN is set to as far as whether or not it defaults all traffic to the remote gateway or not. I'm betting it does, which means that all traffic is subject to whatever network your traffic requests pop out on.

I'm still getting, "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:\WebRoots\dawgtalkers.net v2\libs\mysqli.inc.php on line 208" from time to time. This has been happening for the last few years. Can't post and/or log in sometimes. Is it hard to fix or something?

I don't use a VPN. I just double checked and the VPN included with my anti-virus is turned off.

This fatal error happened to me numerous times last night. I tried deleting cookies, closing and restarting bothj the page and the browser, and so forth. This isn't a long term issue, but just started happening.

This has been a recurring thing for me all season. I pretty much gave up logging in on a game day. Same error message.

The freezing, lagging and timing out has been pretty bad for a few months now. I'd say 15-20% of the time I post, it times out and gives me an error message. When it finally returns to normal, it's a coin flip as to whether my post showed up or not. I've made it a habit to ctrl-c everything I put in the reply box because there's a decent chance it's gone with the wind when I hit "post".

After I posted the above comment, it's like someone made an adjustment of sorts...just like that, all the problems and issues disappeared. No problems logging on and everything is running great.

A big thank you to someone... thumbsup.. nanner

I thought the board was running better today, and it was, but when I logged in to post in this thread I got the dreaded, "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in D:\WebRoots\dawgtalkers.net v2\libs\mysqli.inc.php on line 208" again. I usually don't log in when I come here, but when I do I get that message more frequently than when I don't.

It's hard to believe that this can't be fixed. It's been like this for several years now, especially when the board is busy.

I actually have a log of long-running/slow queries that I just looked at today; there are only a few that seem to really slow things down, but I haven't had an opportunity yet to dive into how best to improve them.
Part of me things that just a configuration change for MySQL should get it done, but I think there are schema changes needed. I suspect that something as simple as adding an index would make a huge difference, but I need to inspect the tables in the query first to know.

I did have MySQL optimize all tables today (if the site was returning a 500 error for you at any point, that was it, lol) and that should have improved things a little. To date, however, it was always a crapshoot as to whether or not the performance issues were the site or actually phantom errors from things external to the site.

Thanks for all you do Prp.

My issues started few days before the draft. I've gotten the 500 error (though that has been getting better). The issues I have been getting consistently are the site taking forever to load or not loading at all. FYI, I usually log in with my iPad, though I tried to log in with my laptops to see if that made a difference (it didn't).

Edit: it's taken two times to post this comment

Yeah. This is out of hand. This won't post until I try three times. The only thing missing from page loads in the 1995 Aol modem sound. Beyond aggravating. I'll check out for a week or so and see if this is fixed.

It was better for a couple of days, then tonight went back to its old tricks.
