Where was this guy when America was finding and killing leaders of the Taliban? Or when Israel Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran? Or the booby trapped pagers in Lebanon?

So it begins...

Also, where was the guy when Russians were abducting Ukrainian children to take back to Russia? Where was he when they bombed a theater full of Ukrainian kids, or a children's hospital?

Or killing citizens and burying them in mass graves. Screw Putin, and I’ll be damned if I stay quiet while they throw Ukraine to the wolves. Vets need to remind Elon and Trump what don’t tread on me really means. Especially if they put military in our streets. The people might have to take back their government.

so...we're definitely dealing with a guy like Stalin or worse; the russian czar era. This entire situation is a game to him. and let's be clear: he's all there. no mental disability or any excuses.

in a horrible way for Ukraine and other eastern European countries, we in the West are getting to see what a WW1-WW2 era villain looks like in real time, and the actions he takes with the rhetoric to justify his actions.

The worst kind of man with power.

He truly is every bit as sociopathically bad as the worst names we saw in the 20th Century, just perhaps a bit older. His underlings (Kadyrov, the Butcher, Lavrov), all the same as the worst henchmen we saw then, too. Only difference is how far they can all go. In his case, he really stumbled out of the gate. It would be like Hitler trying to invade Poland, but the blitzkrieg getting bogged down in Gorzow for a a couple years.

There is a pro-Russian breakaway attempt in Moldova. You can bet your hind parts he wanted to go in there immediately after Ukraine. He already had his hand up Lukashenko's butt. You can bet he'd flip Orban and Pellegrini after that in attempt to break down NATO from within. Poland would have been surrounded effectively at that point from every direction but Germany. The Baltic States would have had no chance. Luckily the linchpin to all this is still giving him hell. Also, his overzealousness drove Finland and Sweden definitively on our side as well.

The extent to which Carlson kissed Putin's butt I was rather surprised trump didn't give him a cabinet appointment.

I actually think he has more power and influence doing what he currently does than any of the cabinet positions. Hell, he's actively influencing who gets appointed to cabinet roles and whipping for their approval as well.

Logistics are always a sure fire way to see if a military is just a paper Tiger.

Need to keep that heat on them. They’re throwing the living room furniture into the fire to keep the house warm.

bro im still in shock that russia can't efficiently supply their troops in their own backyard. its one thing to be the invading force and having issues with supply lines on the front lines. its something else entirely to be a complete cluster* in your own territory, with the country you're invading literally next door, and its been that way since the start of the war.

yes, we absolutely need to keep the boot on their neck. With the fall of Assad in Syria, if Ukraine can end this war with NATO membership, a shattering wave is gonna roll through Central Asia, continuing the downfall of the Russian Empire.

im here for all of it.

Yeah that was truly surprising. I get having struggles if you’re projecting power halfway across the globe, but their failure to use their own roads, supply routes, etc just to take stuff Nextdoor was baffling.

That's what happens when a significant amount of your defense budget goes into the pockets of those in power. Hmmmm

I will say our contractors conveniently locate production in every state to pull the puppet strings. You nailed that on the head. We produce so much that is not needed and never want to make things efficient.

I will say our military personnel are still head and shoulders above the rest at planning and utilizing capability. For now at least. Politics is malignant though.

Putin is hanging on by a thread. Another year, maybe two at most, and Russians will drag him into the streets and kill him. Or just run him out.

But nope, Elon and Trump will rescue Putin… can’t believe these characters are about to take America’s reins of power. It’s like living in the upside down.

Honestly, if the White Christian Nationalists (includes Trump and Jr.) faction in MAGA had it’s way; all brown people would be removed or returned to slave like servitude, rather it would resemble historical American slavery or some handmaids tale dystopian work force.

Then you have black MAGA and Latino MAGA figuring out they only wanted their vote, and would never allow them to be a full member of MAGA… and the incredible disbelief in their faces when the realize; priceless. The tiktoks, reels, and shorts of these have been both sad and hilarious at the same time.

And I think dems will hold off the whole deportation agenda in the courts for as long as they can, but I expect them to deport many anyway. How many and who will be left to the judges.

Then again, I’m not sure fixing anything he promised was actually ever a plan. I mean the way he rolled over on inflation and grocery prices the minute he was elected doesn’t bode to well for MAGA hopes. It’ll probably look more like the first 4 years of constant chaos and inept governing. Where horrible ideas get conjured and folks with a conscious soul allowed their better angels to come to our defense. I’m not sure there are many like that in his staff now.

The numbers of Russian conscripts the Ukrainians had to mow through for like 6 months… I wondered what would have happened if they could have blasted propaganda at them about surrendering being the only why they live… They could have flipped a bunch of those boys, I’m sure.

I wish we had a POTUS with the balls to drive the dagger the rest of the way through Putin. It’s a damn shame that at a minimum, Trump will allow him to reset and live to fight another day, if he doesn’t hand him an outright victory. Never thought I’d see the day an American POTUS handed a democracy over to a red commiie tyrant.

If I was Zelensky, I’d have people in every burg between Ukraine and Moscow talking in the ear of everyday Russians about all the pain PUTIN is needlessly inflicting upon them. There was a day when our CIA would have been all over this mess causinng chaos for the enemy.

“Ukraine War Causalities Near Half a Million, U.S. Officials Say”
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/18/us/politics/ukraine-russia-war-
casualties.html
Troop Deaths and Injuries in Ukraine War Near 500,000,
U.S. Officials Say
Ukraine and Russia have lost a staggering number of troops as Kyiv’s counteroffensive
drags on. A lack of rapid medical care has added to the toll.
The total number of Ukrainian and Russian troops killed or wounded since the war in
Ukraine began 18 months ago is nearing 500,000, U.S. officials said, a staggering toll as
Russia assaults its next-door neighbor and tries to seize more territory.
The officials cautioned that casualty figures remained difficult to estimate because Moscow
is believed to routinely undercount its war dead and injured, and Kyiv does not disclose
official figures. But they said the slaughter intensified this year in eastern Ukraine and has
continued at a steady clip as a nearly three-month-old counteroffensive drags on.
Russia’s military casualties, the officials said, are approaching 300,000. The number
includes as many as 120,000 deaths and 170,000 to 180,000 injured troops. The
Russian numbers dwarf the Ukrainian figures, which the officials put at close to 70,000
killed and 100,000 to 120,000 wounded.
But Russians outnumber Ukrainians on the battlefield almost three to one, and Russia has
a larger population from which to replenish its ranks.
Ukraine has around 500,000 troops, including active-duty, reserve and paramilitary
troops, according to analysts. By contrast, Russia has almost triple that number, with
1,330,000 active-duty, reserve and paramilitary troops — most of the latter from the
Wagner Group.
The Biden administration’s last public estimate of casualties came in November, when Gen.
Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that more than 100,000
troops on each side had been killed or wounded since the war began in February 2022. At
the time, officials said privately that the numbers were closer to 120,000 killed and
wounded.
But that number soared in the winter and spring, as the two countries turned the eastern
city of Bakhmut into a killing field. Hundreds of troops were killed or injured a day for
many weeks, U.S. officials said. The Russians took heavy casualties, but so too did the
Ukrainians as they tried to hold every inch of ground before losing the city in May.
The opening weeks of Kyiv’s counteroffensive this summer were particularly difficult for
Ukraine. In the early phase, Western-trained Ukrainian troops struggled to employ
“combined arms maneuvers” — a method of fighting in which infantry, armor and artillery
are used together in synchronized attacks.
Ukrainian troops initially tried to break through dug-in Russian lines with
mechanized combined arms formations. Equipped with advanced
American weapons, the Ukrainians nonetheless became bogged down in
dense Russian minefields under constant fire from artillery and
helicopter gunships.
In the first two weeks of the counteroffensive, as much as 20 percent of the
weaponry Ukraine sent to the battlefield was damaged or destroyed, according to U.S. and
European officials. The losses included some of the formidable Western fighting machines
— tanks and armored personnel carriers — that the Ukrainians were counting on to beat
back the Russians.
More significantly, thousands of troops were killed or wounded, officials said.
A senior U.S. official acknowledged the high number of Ukrainian casualties but said
combined arms is “very, very hard.” He added that in recent days, Ukrainian troops have
begun to punch through initial rings of Russian defenses.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has shifted its battlefield tactics, returning to its old ways of
wearing down Russian forces with artillery and long-range missiles instead of plunging into
minefields under fire.
American officials are worried that Ukraine’s adjustments will race through precious
ammunition supplies, which could benefit President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia and
disadvantage Ukraine in a war of attrition. But Ukrainian commanders decided the pivot
reduced casualties and preserved their frontline fighting force.
American officials say they fear that Ukraine has become casualty averse, one reason it has
been cautious about pressing ahead with the counteroffensive. Almost any big push
against dug-in Russian defenders protected by minefields would result in huge numbers of
losses.
In just a year and a half, Ukraine’s military deaths have already surpassed the number of
American troops who died during the nearly two decades U.S. units were in Vietnam
(roughly 58,000) and about equal the number of Afghan security forces killed over the
entire war in Afghanistan, from 2001 to 2021 (around 69,000).
The number of dead and wounded reflects the amount of lethal munitions being expended
by both sides. Thousands of rounds of artillery are fired every week, tanks batter buildings,
land mines are everywhere and drones hover overhead picking off troops below. When
close combat does occur, it resembles the battles of World War I: brutal and often taking
place in trenches.
The numbers also point to a lack of rapid medical care on the frontline. Wounded soldiers
are increasingly hard to evacuate given how much artillery and gunfire bookend each
engagement. Unlike the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, where American forces strictly
adhered to evacuating casualties within an hour to a well-stocked medical facility, there is
no such capability in Ukraine.
Instead, injured troops are often thrown into any vehicle available or leave the front on
foot. In some cases, the wounded and dead are left on the battlefield, because medics are
unable to reach them. Hospitals and aid stations are often overwhelmed.
And across Ukraine, in big cities and rural villages, almost everyone knows a family that
has lost someone in the fighting. Dry flowers from funerals litter quiet roads, and
graveyards are filling up in every corner of the country.
The estimated figures for Ukraine and Russia are based on satellite imagery,
communication intercepts, social media and news media dispatches from reporters in the
country, as well as official reporting from both governments. Estimates vary, even within
the U.S. government.
According to Pentagon documents leaked in the spring, Russia had suffered 189,500 to
223,000 casualties, including up to 43,000 killed in action. One document said that as of
February, Ukraine had suffered 124,500 to 131,000 casualties, with as many as 17,500
killed in action.
While several U.S. officials and one former senior Ukrainian official said
about 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died in the conflict so far, other
American officials said the number could be lower.
The estimates vary so widely partly because of Ukraine’s reluctance to disclose its wartime
losses even to the American government. U.S. intelligence analysts have also spent much
more time focusing on Russian casualties than those of Ukraine, their ally.
Russia analysts say the loss of life is unlikely to deter Mr. Putin. He has no political
opposition at home and has framed the war as the kind of struggle the country faced
during World War II, when more than eight million Soviet troops died. U.S. officials have
said they believe that Mr. Putin can sustain hundreds of thousands of casualties in Ukraine,
although higher numbers could cut into his political support.
While Mr. Putin appears somewhat reluctant to initiate a widespread mobilization, he has
raised the upper age limit for men eligible to be conscripted into the army. And should
Russia decide to mobilize more people, its larger population could quickly overwhelm
Ukrainian reserves of manpower.
The troop deaths could have a greater impact for Ukraine in a war that is far from over.
And while combatants are dying in droves, the civilians caught between the guns have
died in the thousands while millions have been displaced.
“These are people,” said Evelyn Farkas, a former top Pentagon official for Ukraine who is
now the executive director of the McCain Institute.
“Ukraine is a democracy, so the loss of lives could have greater political
impact,” Dr. Farkas said. “But even in an autocracy, Vladimir Putin knows
that public sentiment can make a difference.”

With half million dead and a lopsided kill rate favoring Ukraine, I honestly thought Putin would go for a stale mate where he is now and try to claim the territory he was able to hold. But this summer he seems to have doubled down sending floods of conscripts, north Koreans, and Iranian weapons. I bet there are Iranian troops there too but don’t remember reading it. Without American led NATO influence I think NK and Iran would have joined in full force.

Russia is feeling the full impact of sanctions and the strain could force an end to the war this year, think tank says
Jennifer Sor
Updated Fri, January 10, 2025 at 4:09 AM CST·3 min read

Russia's economic pain will intensify this year, according to the Atlantic Council.

The think tank said Russia is feeling the full effects of sanctions after nearly three years of war.

Continued strain could cause Moscow to end the war in Ukraine this year, a note from the group said.

After almost three years of waging war in Ukraine, Russia is feeling the full impact of its economic punishment from the West — and it could prompt the Kremlin to end the war in Ukraine as soon as this year, a note from the Atlantic Council said this week.

The think tank pointed to the pressures building on Russia's economy, primarily those stemming from Western sanctions. The sanctions packages over the last several years have included measures like cutting Russia off from SWIFT, the international financial communication system, as well as trade restrictions on several of Russia's key exports, like oil and gas.

According to Mark Temnycky, a fellow at the think tank, those measures have had a definite impact on Russia's economy, even after the Kremlin seemed to shrug off the initial volley of restrictions.

"Three years later, the picture looks different. The Russian economy is now beginning to see the full effects of international sanctions. If these trends continue, then the full impact of these financial punishments, combined with strong Ukrainian resistance to Russian forces, could at last put enough pressure on the Kremlin to end its war," Temnycky said.

He pointed to various signs of economic strain in Russia, which suggested that the nation may not be able to continue its war effort for much longer.

Russia's ruble, for one, has plunged more than 50% in value against the dollar and the euro — partly due to sanctions pressure on Russian institutions, according to an analysis from the Kyiv School of Economics. The ruble traded at around 102 against the dollar on Thursday, close to the lowest level since Russia first began its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Russia's energy business also appears to be struggling after years of trade restrictions and dwindling oil prices. Russia's total energy revenue tumbled by nearly a quarter in 2023, and the government expects oil and gas revenue to keep shrinking until 2027, according to a draft budget viewed by Bloomberg.

Russian inflation is also soaring, with consumer prices rising 9.5% year-over-year in the last week of December, according to the nation's central bank.

Even Putin has acknowledged that Russia's inflation rate was "alarming," a rare admission from the Russian leader of the problems facing the country.

"Putin's points on inflation were telling. The Russian leader seldom discusses problems pertaining to Russian society. Thus, the fact that he felt the need to acknowledge inflation as a serious issue suggests that something greater is afoot," Temnycky said, adding that Russia appears to be on track to enter a recession in 2025.

Other economists have warned of more pain headed for Russia's economy in the coming year. The nation could see a "significant strain" on its budget in 2025, with the economy at risk of falling into a period of Soviet-style stagnation, economic experts previously told BI.

"Putin and the Kremlin will have to determine how to try to address these financial woes," Temycky added. "This suggests that 2025 will be a difficult year for Russians and the economy. Time will tell how significant these events will be."

I feel like we've been getting one of these articles per quarter since the war began.

I'm definitely curious how sanctions and other measures progress once Trump takes office. Obviously, the flow of arms and equipment will probably stop, but I'm wondering if he'll also try to help his buddy by alleviating some or all of the financial pressures. I'm hoping he doesn't and Russia continues to be treated as a pariah from the world economy.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

It was kind of an ebb and flow between extremes (what isn't these days?). At first, the sanctions were supposed to destroy their economy immediately. Then contrary articles came out and said sanctions had zero effect on their economy. What I imagined to be the case all along is that the sanctions would have grave effect on their economy, but over a prolonged period. They've been manipulating the economic controls for a while now to demonstrate that nothing is wrong, and it did appear that way for a while.

But it became more apparent that they were throwing the living room furniture into the fire to keep it blazing warm. Putin actually coming out and addressing it as a problem is a rare thing, especially in Russian culture (think back to how they initially handled Chernobyl). I don't know if it will definitely be this year that something falls out, but I can't imagine it would be much longer than that at this rate.

Dude has either gotten crazy, desperate, or both:

From President to Divine Protector? Putin Elevates Himself to New Heights With Godly Rebrand
Anna Nemtsova

Until recently, Vladimir Putin insisted, at least publicly, that he didn’t want a cult of his personality. Not anymore. During the last three years of the war he started in Ukraine, he has embraced it.

At his annual press conference last month, Putin nodded with a serious face and boasted about improving his skills—he enjoyed talking about himself more than ever. His lips pressed in a sour grimace, he described himself: “I joke less now, and I have almost stopped laughing.”

The serious Putin talked about the war even on Orthodox Christmas, which comes in January. The Kremlin informed Russians that Putin had asked the country’s top priest “to engrave his own initials” on chains for the crosses worn by soldiers.

Patriarch Kirill and Putin were filmed together: “Here are crosses, as well as other pectoral icons, with the image of the holy equal-to-the-apostles Grand Duke Vladimir, the founder of our Rus, our state, the one who defended our Fatherland with a sword in his hands, and who is now also such a symbol of the gathering of the Russian land. But, in addition, he is also your heavenly patron” the priest said, addressing Putin. “So, I think that this will be doubly intelligible and pleasant for all the soldiers who receive these images,” continued Kirill, before consecrating the necklaces.

Russian Kremlinologists were shocked. The president’s initials on crosses for soldiers was definitely a sign of a completely new development. “We could not even imagine anything like that happening before,” Putin’s former speech writer Abbas Gallyamov told the Daily Beast on Saturday. “Putin was much more level-headed before, he did not pretend to have a holy status.” Gallyamov worked at the Kremlin administration and in the Russian government from 2008 to 2020. It’s true that Putin has changed: Thirteen years ago, he refused to use his face on billboards for his 2012 presidential campaign.

Russian nationalists and ideologists have been pushing and calling for the cult of Putin’s personality for years. The Kremlin’s administrator, Vyacheslav Volodin, declared essentially this line of state policy in October 2014: “If there is Putin, there is Russia; there is no Russia today, if there is no Putin.”

The Russian Union of Cossacks installed a monument of Putin, “Russian tsar” in St. Petersburg soon after the annexation of Crimea. The bronze Putin, appearing as a Roman Emperor, has a naked torso and a toga draped over his shoulders. Putin professed modesty, dismissing all the efforts of Russians to proclaim him a new Tsar. “This is not true, someone else could be called a tsar. I work every day, I do not reign,” Putin said in 2020. That same year, the Russian Orthodox Church formally permitted an image of Putin’s face to be placed on a wall of the newly built Cathedral of the Armed Forces.

“The more the propaganda and church pushed for his divine qualities, the more he believed he had them—so he must have told himself: Even Jesus Christ did not leave autographs, but I will,” Russian propaganda analyst Ilya Shepelin told the Daily Beast. “We watch closely how the presidential administration organize and stage Putin’s visits to the regions, where his fans tell him that everyone loves him. He does not see anything else.”

The Russian political regime is changing to accept a larger, crucial role for the Orthodox Church. Priests and bureaucrats rush forward with new initiatives. Orthodox priests are assigned to work at schools and universities. Earlier this week, Metropolitan Yevgeny of the Russian Orthodox Church suggested assigning priests to work with journalists at all media outlets in the Ural Mountains region. “Why not assign an interesting, smart, deep, kind priest, who would help build this bridge between the life of the church and the lives of those people who consider themselves children of the Russian Orthodox Church as well as one or another media.”

A long time Kremlin observer, Olga Bychkova, says the new turn to hints at divine qualities in Putin is dictated by his desire to stay popular. “He needs to find new points to support himself, to give more new promises not only to the country but also to convince himself,” Bychkova told The Daily Beast in an interview on Saturday. “Both Putin and Trump are very much alike. They turn their obscure ideas into popular points. But more and more people will find Putin’s efforts ridiculous. It will become obvious that this is just an old man’s idiocy.”

North Korean diary reveals use of horrific tactic in Ukraine war

https://www.yahoo.com/news/north-korean-diary-reveals-horrific-150026507.html

guys....look, just from a pure soldier/veteran perspective, I would've really felt bad if we fought again North Korean troops. Cause this is sad, man. At least the crazies in the Middle East had a choice and had the ability to fight back. And i'd consider those combatants waaaaay more experienced and trained than NK troops.

War is war, so obviously if they shoot, shoot back. It's just with these troops specifically, they never stood a chance in hell, AND they died, and will continue dying, in a foreign country for absolutely nothing. died with limited/no concepts and ideas of what the outside world was truly like.

Man, that is sad. It looks like Zelensky offered the DPRK prisoners in exchange for Ukrainian. Problem is Kim doesn't want them back. They know too much now. If he got them back, they would probably "disappear."

Zelensky seems like he would be open to allowing NK POW's the opportunity of assimilating to Ukraine after the war is over, however the borders end up being drawn at the end.

because your right; they would disappear. They've already seen too much, tasted different food, used/seen different technology, and communicated with outsiders, that Kim will automatically view them as a threat to his control.

Haha, I saw that. Man, with all the fast food and whatnot that we have, we could really get the DPRK soldiers on our side.

Send them all McDonald’s. Even if they don’t surrender, the gut pains and diarrhea from highly processed chemical derived foods should take them out of the fight. When you eat a healthy whole foods diet, McD’s, Taco Bell, and White Castles will destroy you. I’m sure there are others but those three I know of personally.

A lot of them eat food from farms that are fertilized with human excrement, so I think their guts might be able to handle more than that wink

and for those not aware yet, Russia is having massive problems with logistics and resupplying their troops....within their OWN borders. and it has nothing to do with ukraine and everything to do with kremlin incompetency.

Communism/ Socialism doing what it does. It's non sustainable.

Just reading this thread is pretty scary the way some of you are talking.
