The wisdom of Tommy Tubberville.

According to ABC News, Tuberville claimed he has “never” seen video footage of rioters beating police officers.

“100 percent, I’m for the -- pardon everyone. They’ve been there long enough. Most of them hadn’t been charged with anything,” Tuberville told the news station.

ABC News then asked Tuberville about rioters who attacked police officers, beating them with fire hydrants and metal batons.

“I didn’t see that,” Tuberville told ABC News.

When asked if that’s acceptable, Tuberville said “No, that’s not acceptable, but I didn’t see it. I don’t believe it because I didn’t see it. Now, if I see it, I would believe it, but I didn’t see in that video.”

saywhat

Then there's Mike Johnson.....

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that he felt it was not “his place” to question Trump’s pardons, and that he would not “second-guess” Trump’s actions.

The Capital Building where congress has their offices and conducts their business is literally His place.

It may or may not have had something to do with the day I spent on the ranch with Kristi Noem.

Federal district court judge temporarily blocks Trump's birthright citizenship order

A federal district court hearing Thursday in Seattle was the first action in what promises to be a protracted and wide-ranging battle over the new administration's agenda.

"I’ve been on the bench for over four decades," Coughenour, a Ronald Reagan appointee, said. "I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order."

Medicare and SS are the political third rail. The only way you make big cuts there is if you have no expectation of keeping your seat. It’d be a Kamikaze mission.

But who knows, maybe they’ll convince Trumpies that Medicare and SS departments are full of socialist pizza parlor pedos and satanists and the only way to be rid of them is to axe them wholesale. It’s been the wet dream of the birch society right since their inception. To basically return to feudal Europe. No services, no net, no collective good. You achieve a certain level of self sustaining, almost tax free wealth and you can cloister yourself away from the rest of humanity and let the serfs squabble for bread crusts and perish in the streets from consumption. If you’re not smart and lucky enough to win, you deserve to lose.

I expect people in power and those with great wealth to do whatever they can to get to the bit into the common man’s mouths and to take the bridle. I may never understand when common folk willingly do it themselves.

If they continue to make immigrants who have criminal records or have committed crimes since entering the country their top priority I'm all for it.

Blaming the school shooting on being "indoctrinated by the head of a Nazi group" is like blaming the food pyramid for being fat. This dude said this:

"I was so miserable. I wanted to kill myself. I just couldn't take anymore. I am a worthless subhuman, a living breathing disgrace. All my (in real life) friends outgrew me act like they didn't f—ing know me. Being me was so f—ing humiliating. That's why I spend all day dissociating."

"Indoctrinated" is hyperbole in it's purest form. jmo

If you wish to parse out some things he said while ignoring others that's your prerogative.

In that manifesto he included a poster of the Goyim Defense League, whose members distribute antisemitic propaganda. The apparent manifesto also included an (unattributed) quotation from the manifesto of the shooter who attacked a mosque in New Zealand in 2019, in which that shooter credited right-wing commentator Candace Owens with having influenced him.

Sure, if you exclude many of the things he said in that manifesto you can lead people to believe otherwise. This happened 15 minutes from my house and let me tell you that this same group marched in Nashville just months ago and this kid openly said it influenced him.

Quote
In one of his first sentences, Henderson wrote he "was ashamed to be Black." He was anti-Semitic in his writings and posted a flyer from the Goyim Defense League, which is a neo-Nazi white supremacy group that visited Nashville this summer.

Henderson said he was inspired by Candance Owens, a conservative Black pundit who previously called Nashville home.

"Candance Owens influenced me above all each time she spoke," Henderson wrote.

Trump’s Immigration Threats Are Already Wrecking the Food Industry
Immigrant farm workers are too scared to show up to work.

Fear of increased ICE raids have already negatively affected the nation’s agricultural sector, causing alarm that food prices could skyrocket in the near future as a result of Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies.

Bakersfield, California, saw a massive drop off in the number of field workers showing up for work last week after Border Patrol agents in unmarked Chevy Suburbans rounded up and detained immigrants in the area, profiling individuals they believed to be field workers, reported CalMatters.* The end result: acres of unpicked oranges roasting in the California sun at the height of the season.

Bakersfield makes up a small portion of California’s Central Valley, which produces approximately a quarter of the nation’s food. Kern County, where Bakersfield is located, has ranked within the top three agricultural counties in the nation for the last several years, largely off the backs of undocumented laborers, who are estimated to comprise more than half of the county’s workforce, according to CalMatters.

During a three-day operation in Kern County, undocumented workers were targeted walking in and out of gas stations, getting breakfast, at Home Depot, or while driving along the 99 Highway, leaving many with no other option than to simply stay at home.

“We’re in the middle of our citrus harvesting,” Casey Creamer, president of the industry group California Citrus Mutual, told CalMatters. “This sent shockwaves through the entire community. People aren’t going to work and kids aren’t going to school. Yesterday about 25 percent of the workforce, today 75 percent didn’t show up.”

Losing the bulk of America’s agricultural workforce overnight is a recipe for “absolute economic devastation,” according to Richard S. Gearhart, an associate professor of economics at Cal State-Bakersfield, who spoke with the nonprofit news outlet.

“You are talking about a recession-level event if this is the new long-term norm,” Gearhart said, arguing that the end result of Trump’s policies will be felt in the grocery store check-out lines across America.

The 47th president has effectively promised a full-throttle immigration crackdown for the next four years that includes attacking birthright citizenship and ordering high-profile ICE raids around the country against undocumented immigrants, decisions that could keep the backbone of the nation’s agricultural workforce inside.

But just two days into the administration, it appears that anti-immigration efforts will be a relative free-for-all. On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would roll back an Obama-era directive, suddenly allowing the immigration agency to detain people in sensitive areas such as hospitals, places of worship, court rooms, funerals, and weddings.

“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest,” a spokesperson for the agency said in a statement. “The Trump Administration will not tie the hands of our brave law enforcement, and instead trusts them to use common sense.”

I'm fully expecting many of us to starve to death and the rest to be on the brink.

Trump will promise to bring the food back if we elect him to a third term while throwing back a KFC tender.

I won't-I have a small garden and I go to a few various farm markets and about 3-4 pick your own berries and veggies in southern Mahoning/northern Columbiana county.
As I get close to retirement in a few years, one of my pleasures is getting outside on a beautiful morning and spending a couple hours picking strawberries, blue/black berries, peppers, tomatoes, beans of all types, zukes, peaches, apples...pretty much everything we need and we eat a lot of veggies and berries

I hear your sarcasm, and it's too early to consider anything a success or failure... but you don't find it at least a little funny that a guy that campaigned on fixing the economic issues of his predecessor has just re-f'ed prescription drug prices and potentially kicked off food supply issues?

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Good for you! That stuff keeps you young. I've never seen so many gardens in my life over the past few years. A neighbor who used to be just someone I waved to while walking my dog became a friend when he called me over to his garden and asked if I wanted some tomatoes and beans.

I helped him for a couple of days, and he eventually showed me how to save seeds. He'll help me plant my own tomato plants in the spring. He has an unknown, unnamed species of Italian tomatoes that are truly among the best I've ever tasted. He's 80 and in great health.

I also frequent farmers' markets. The amount of energy we waste shipping produce all over the country is insane.

I don't know if you've ever been to White House Fruit Farm in Canfield, but man, what an amazing variety at very reasonable prices.

The "re-f'ed drug prices" falls into the fake news category, imo.

Should we ignore the immigration situation because of food prices? 10 million entered the country illegally, many are criminals, both you and DL just cosigned on removing criminals. In order to find the criminals, you may make other people (who are here illegally as well, a fact that's always conveniently ignored) uncomfortable and want to lay low. That's why they're not picking oranges.

NOW, I'll be the first to point out the particular situation in that article was a bad flex and I hope we learned our lesson. Beyond that, there will be casualties in this war, and it's a necessary war. I'm being entirely earnest in my opinion that the first fingers pointed should be at the Biden admin for creating the catastrophe, not Trump for having to clean it up.

Lol. I've never heard so much chatter about blueberry donuts while standing in line. By the time I got to the front, I had to have one. Quite amazing, and that's coming from someone who spent a part of his career yawning through "time to make the donuts" land, and made some amazing blueberry donuts of his own.

This is the promises thread, right? Part one complete, and if nothing else it has to be very therapeutic just to have a leader listen to their stories. ALL of them. And answer questions, ALL of them. Boots on the ground, not a Tweet from the basement.

I'm not sure how he bypasses all the bureaucracy, but FEMA seems to be a bigger disaster than the very disasters it fails to address. FOUR MONTHS later and not much looks different. *Actual leadership. (DL: do you prefer the asterisk or a hashtag?)

Trump has suggesting that he will end FEMA. So there will be another red herring you won't have to target anymore.

I understand that once again you don't like the wording. But let me explain what irony actually looks like.

trump suggested that if and when he does away with FEMA the states can pay for the disasters that happen. The poorest states in the country a by a vast majority are southern red states and other red states.

The biggest threat he is waging is to harm his own voters the most. That's what irony looks like.

Actually, he just (again) said that FEMA constantly fails to do it's job and he supports sending funds directly to the states and communities. He says he will cut through the red tape and get them the help they need.

How can he possibly harm his own voters when Biden has left them in tents with no roads or resources for four months. Explain that without a whatabout; diversion; or reference to January 6th, or you can talk to the wall.
