I can't believe we haven't touched on this guy. Fate took him way too soon(no, not you) but he made one heck of a mark. Just listening to some of his songs it was hard to pick one, but I always like this one.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
For anyone out there who still listens to music on a PC I have a nice, free, open-source app for you to try to boost your sound quality, volume, and bass. It has an equalizer, effects, and presets for customized audio.
I listen to music with headphones on while at home, it makes a big difference.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Jim Croce wrote some great songs. Who knows what else he could have given us had he lived longer. I just heard Bad Bad Leroy Brown on the radio yesterday in fact.
It's a song that's not only a prefect example of what you're saying as it pertains to older people such as ourselves but also a reflection of looking back at the stories we heard from our elders when we were young. It puts things in perspective more so than almost any song I've ever heard. As much as generations have their differences there are similarities that can not be denied. Life is temporary for all of us.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Ok, I have had some wine and uncorked another bottle. I like listening to music and may jam up the board with some tunes I like, so my apologies in advance.

Maybe 40 years ago I supported a Pat Boone charity here in town. It included a golf tournament and dinner/concert the night before. I had back stage tickets for the concert. Some guy walked up next to me and we started talking. I introduced myself and he said he was Billy Joe. We talked for a few minutes, then as the act was ending, he said he had to go out and sings some songs...LOL
Turns out that Billy Joe was this guy..he opened with this song.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
This guy did this when he was still a teenager, living in his parents' house.
Yes- the production is highly processed. By necessity (I'll get to that innaminnit).*
BUT:
First, and foremost: a kid did this.
Think of it: this joint was his own arrangement of a time-worn Jazz classic. An easily-recognizable tune, based on 'rhythm changes.'
*Here's the 'innaminnit' reference I mentioned earlier: When I hear his final product, I hear the sophistication of the chord extensions he uses, the keyboard solos he's able to take, the overall construction of the arrangement (added sections/key changes, etc), and I think to myself: "This 16-year-old kid conceived of this in his own mind... and then found/made a way to make it happen." Professional arrangers finish their careers wishing that they could have conceived of something like this. This really does come pretty close to Mozart-level prodigy.
By the way, he's blowing up worldwide, in professional circles that recognize generational talent when they see it. Jazz luminary Herbie Hancock sang his praises. Hanz Zimmer asked him to collaborate on a film score.
Check this s# out (mind = blown):
...and here he is, running down his own cover of one of Stevie's Golden Era hits (and yeah- he's that good at all the instruments he works):
To quote B.I.G.: "I been in this game for years... it's made me an animal..." Pros don't suffer fools gladly. And they are sparing in their praise- because the bar is set so high. You gotta work your ass off to get here, and then, you get the privilege of working two asses off to stay here. The Game is absolutely ruthless.
So when old-azz pros like Herbie Hancock & Hanz Zimmer toss the same flowers as your resident line-level grunt, best believe you're getting The Real News about someone worthy of attention.
The only thing this kid hasn't yet done is write an original timeless Jazz standard. If he can manage that, his name will be remembered for generations.

I don't often contribute to the music threads. There are reasons for that:
1. I enjoy learning about what Dawgs like- and why. 2. I get to hear music that my upbringing didn't provide. 3. I want my posts to add something that many may not ever find.
If you don't know Jacob Collier- you soon will. Trust me. 50 years in The Game. I know The Real when I see it/hear it.
I will never bring BS to a thread that gives love to what has been my life's passion.
