I was surprised by that as well. Most top 10 deals are these days ... maybe even just 1st round contracts.

Fully guaranteed rookie deals. Seriously? It’s part of the agreement, they have slotted rookie wage scales and in return they are guaranteed deals. You should remember the old contracts rookies used to get, in this slot at todays prices it would probably look like a 5 year $80M with $60M guaranteed. 2010, the last year for negotiated contracts, Gerald McCoy received a 5 year $67M deal with $35M guaranteed. Now that was the #3 pick, not #5, but it was also 15 years ago. To put it into comparison, this contract is 4 years $41M all guaranteed, with a 5th year option that would pay about $15.5M (#5 pick with the most recent 5th year option is getting $14.75 M) So the total contract would end up 5 years $56.5 if he plays well enough to get the option. Over $2 less than 15 years ago for 5 years of work.

I was surprised by that as well. First rounders have had guaranteed contracts for a while. At least some of them. I think it is now the first 24 picks.

I was surprised by that as well. First rounders have had guaranteed contracts for a while. At least some of them. I think it is now the first 24 picks. And it's becoming more and more common. Browns second round pick Carson Schewsinger also signed a fully guaranteed contract as well as Jayden Higgins whom the Texans drafted right after the Browns. These are the only two second round draft picks signed. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profo...r-top-two-got-fully-guaranteed-contracts

“What we've challenged Myles on is, by his practice habits, by his actions, etcetera, to become a real leader of the team,” Browns owner Jimmy Haslam upon signing Garrett to his new contract.
Today’s first on the field OTAs with the vets and rookies.

Voluntary; done, given, or acting of one's own free will
For some reason there are a certain portion of people and media outlets that try to create controversy where none exists.

This is how a player with over 15 years of NFL experience answers questions. I still think he is a huge asset to the QB room, and not just as a player. I do think he has some play left in him, and his example has to be a positive influence, even if it means it illuminates a potential "bad worth etic" of any of the other 3 guys who may not follow his lead. I am glad he is here and don't care if he would start most of the games this season, because if he does it means he is playing well and the season would be somewhat successful.

What it appears to me that he did was simply state what his priorities are. His priority one is to play football. To be the starter and win games. That's as it should be. And a lot of people believe the best way to lead is by example. I agree with that. It seems as though he does as well.

The Shedeur Sanders hype machine: Why those viral OTA stats don’t tell the full story CLEVELAND, Ohio — A single graphic showing Shedeur Sanders’ performance at Browns OTAs ignited a social media firestorm this week, sending NFL analysts and fans into a frenzy of speculation about the rookie quarterback’s future. But as the hosts of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast explained, these numbers require significant context before drawing any conclusions. “The thing took on a life of its own,” explained Dan Labbe on Thursday’s episode. “It went from kind of, however one you want to view it, a cute, fun sort of, haha, look, they’re keeping stats on OTAs. Everybody’s picking up on this and everybody’s talking about it and it’s showing up on national TV shows and people were seeing major media outlets tweet it and put it on their socials and all of that.” The graphic, which showed Sanders completing 7 of 9 passes with 3 touchdowns during Wednesday’s practice, quickly became the talk of the NFL world. However, as Mary Kay Cabot pointed out, these stats lacked crucial context about the nature of Sanders’ participation. “Shedeur Sanders, as we so aptly told everybody yesterday, did not take one rep in 11-on-11s,” Cabot emphasized. “He has to come in here as the fourth string quarterback and work his way up that depth chart. So he did not take a team rep. He did not have Mason Graham in his face yesterday at all.” This distinction matters enormously. The stats came exclusively from 7-on-7 drills, which feature no defensive linemen, no pass rush, and significantly more time for quarterbacks to make decisions. It’s a controlled environment that naturally inflates quarterback performance compared to full-team situations. Ashley Bastock highlighted the misleading nature of comparing different quarterbacks’ stats without this context: “There’s just no real context to those numbers either in that graphic. Because basically what you’re saying, one guy, Shedeur, was not in 11-on-11s at all. The other guys’ numbers, I would assume, but I don’t know for sure, include their 11-on-11 numbers.” The viral nature of these stats reveals a broader issue in sports media today. In the race to share eye-catching content, crucial details get stripped away, leaving audiences with an incomplete picture. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced with Sanders, whose celebrity status and famous father have created an outsized interest in his NFL journey. “This is the celebrity, this is the world of Shedeur Sanders,” Labbe noted. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He just showed up and practiced. But the rest of the world has run with these OTA stats.” All three hosts emphasized they weren’t criticizing Sanders himself — in fact, they’ve consistently praised his talent. Their concern centers on how decontextualized information shapes public perception and expectations. “I’m not anti-Shedeur Sanders,” Cabot clarified. “I am all about getting the facts right, getting the facts straight.” https://www.cleveland.com/browns/20...uzsubZjmpFT_w_aem_8Pi3HoYgriR0l3ui2d-TyA

Regarding Flacco... this should not be a surprise to anyone. The knock against Pickett is that he is "Checkdown Charlie" and does not push the ball down the field. Flacco does. It changes the game.

The one thing I'm curious about regarding Pickett is changes in his play operating within our offense. I think a big part of why anyone sees any potential in him is the offense he had to operate within while in Pitt.

I'd be mashing that like button if it were still there. This should help our Oline out, immensely... but that still doesn't get us off the hook in terms of our ?? at OT, Bitonio aging, and Teller slowly regressing from his first year.

Or Bitonio and Teller are much better suited to play in the ZBS.

Njoku scares me. We can't afford to lose him and he's probably going to want another bump from his high contract. While he's a key piece, I don't really feel he's ever lived up to his contract.
There's no way we keep Conklin past his current deal. Hopefully Zinter can challenge for a starting guard spot this year.

He was disappointing last year given where he was drafted. I hope he thrives this year with the change back to an OL friendly scheme. Sure wish we still had Callahan....
In other news Jed is still out there getting almost no attention from anyone. Wonder if he'd be a potential injury signing for us, or if the bridge has effectively been burned.

No doubt we will be counting on guys like Zinter stepping up. We also have that guy from OSU who has been hurt from day one. It will be time to see if he can play. We have also signed a few FA players. Only time will tell if they pan out or not.

JW was an obvious disappointment for us. As a Browns fan I wanted him to do well as I do all our players. That being said I wish him well and hope he recovers from this injury.

If you're talking about Zinter, he had broken his leg the previous season (last season at UM). I'm not going to worry about him unless he shows similar (limited) development this year.

I think we need 2 legit TEs in Stefanski's system. Hopefully, with Fanin, we have our second. Still need either Njoku or another dude that can contribute.

Njoku was at his best when he had Flacco throwing the rock. He’s also a willing and capable blocker. I don’t know how the FO is seeing him, long-term, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets another contract from us.

I agree, Njoku is here for another 2-3 years. When they signed him to the last extension, they did it with one more short contract in mind which will loosen up the cap situation at the end of his career. If they didn’t re-sign him, it will be a huge cap hit and he will be playing for someone else. They can convert the void years to a bonus and relieve some of the hit.
