Proud Boys' $100 Million Lawsuit Puts Trump In A Lose-Lose Position
Lydia O'Connor
Fri, June 6, 2025 at 7:46 PM EDT3 min read

Five members of the Proud Boys pardoned by President Donald Trump for orchestrating the Capitol insurrection have turned around and sued the federal government, forcing Trump’s administration into an awkward position.

The lawsuit from members of the neofascist group — all of whom were convicted and given lengthy sentences for the key roles they played in the riot on Jan. 6, 2021 — claims they were the victims of “egregious and systemic abuse of the legal system and the United States Constitution to punish and oppress political allies of President Trump.”

The complaint, which seeks $100 million in restitution, compares their punishment to “placing one’s enemies’ heads on a spike outside the town wall as a warning to any who would think to challenge the status quo.”

Their lawsuit effectively leaves Trump’s administration with two politically unappetizing options: Defend the Biden administration’s prosecution after Trump pardoned them and nearly all other Jan. 6 offenders, or force American taxpayers to shell out for a settlement with them.

The plaintiffs include Proud Boys leader Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, who was convicted of plotting the attack on the Capitol and sentenced to 22 years in prison ― the longest sentence handed down to anyone tried over Jan. 6.

At a press conference Friday, Tarrio called the lawsuit a chance for Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, to rectify the Biden administration’s errors.

“Today, we call on her to honor her commitment to the American people, to right the wrongs of her predecessor and to hold accountable those who violated our rights,” he said. “We trust President Trump’s judgment. He doesn’t make mistakes.”

Three of the other men ― Ethan Nordean, Joe Biggs and Zachary Rehl ― were found guilty of spearheading the attack in the absence of Tarrio, who couldn’t enter Washington, D.C., due to a prior arrest. They were sentenced to 18, 17 and 15 years in prison, respectively.

The final Proud Boy in the lawsuit is Dominic Pezzola, who was captured on video using police equipment to break through glass at the entrance of the building. He was given 10 years in prison.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit, which refers to the Proud Boys as a “patriotic activist organization for young men.”

The complaint says the men suffered greatly during their time in detention, where some of them endured “solitary confinement under deplorable and unsanitary conditions” and were denied access to visits from their families and lawyers. Trump referred to them as “hostages” when he signed his executive order pardoning riot participants in January.

The Proud Boys lawsuit comes the same day Shane Lamond, the former leader of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s intelligence division, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for leaking information to Tarrio ahead of the Jan. 6 attack.

When you lay down with dogs you wake up with fleas. This administration should have already invested heavily in flea collars.

Nauseating.

Of course - a pardon doesn't mean they weren't not guily of all the charges, it means they were given a get out of jail free card by the puppet master that sent them to try and prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a free and fair election.

It's just one more thing where the "inteligent conservatives" turn away and don't care. Teach the kids that the fair election was "stolen" despite zero evidence to the contrary and despite a $700-800 million defamation lawsuit filed and won. Accept the end of due process becuase it's just too damn inconvinient. Accept millions dying from aids. Accept the genocide in Gaza. All in the name of following a descpicable individual who is corrupt, has no morals, brags about grabbing girls vaginas, mocks the disabled, disrespects and disregards our veternans .... a guy who panders to dictators while grifting and lining his own pockets at the expense of all else. 🤮 All in our lifetime and brazenly under our noses.

I wouldn’t put a settlement out of the question. Especially after what happened with Ashli Babbitt. It’s ducking insane.

With this administration there's there's not much I consider to be out of the question. This is nothing more than a group of domestic terrorists seeking further legitimacy after trump already gave it to them.

These assholes broke the law, they got arrested, they were tried and then convicted and sentenced. They didn't deserve a pardon. Not even a little.

This crap about the Biden administration is just that, CRAP! I would hope no jury would award them a nickel.. But I do suspect a settlement will be reached.

That's just sad....

And now Trump isn’t hesitating a NY minute to call out the National Guard on protesters.

If you really think about it, this is exactly what the right wing extremists were complaining about, an out of control government coming in and taking over by force against the population.

Homeland Security Investigations, and ICE are raiding cities, coming in like storm troupers in armored personnel carriers, in masks full tactical gear and performing seemingly indiscriminate raids targeting restaurants and other high profile places to get maximum news coverage.

You can say that the 4th amendment was being violated. I don't know where that will go, I suspect

It is not a good look for the government, and yes people are beginning to catch on and fight the ICE.

7 years ago, I won on a Motion to Suppress. At that point in time, I was SHOCKED that I won because we all felt the Amendment was being eroded.

What I would give to go back to that point in time vs how everything is now……

It all depends on who you are committing crimes for which controls the response you get from trump.

Right verses wrong makes more sense to me. But on many issues what people consider right verses wrong are based on their personal values, religious beliefs and their own standard of moral behaviour. In such instances as those it's not as cut and dry.

I'll give you an example. Many felony crimes have a statute of limitations. A period of time which once it passes you can no longer be convicted of that crime. Now that means you were, let's just use your example "wrong" by the deed you committed. Yet our justice system only allows a certain time period for you to be tried for that crime.

So would it be "right or wrong" to treat illegal immigrants the same way? And I think it would even be better if certain stipulations were applied. They would have to have committed no felony crimes. They would have to be working and paying taxes.

I mean if one uses how our court system works as of now, why should immigrants not have the same ability to the statute of limitations for committing a far less serious offense?

So you see, what's right and what's wrong can be very subjective.
