I agree but I would wait at least one more week. Not a good idea to start him against Detroit. This 100%.

Jaxson Dart starting for Giants this Sunday. Can we be far behind?

I don't think we're "far" behind. It was made clear from the top down that they planned to evaluate the rookies this season to see what they have in them. Hopefully part of that evaluation will be Sanders getting some playing time if can progress to the point that. At this point I believe that remains to be seen.
Evaluations are everything from practice and beyond. How much evaluation each QB gets will be dependent on their progress. With Gabriele being the named backup and already getting a little regular season playing time, and looking good when he did, he will be the first man up and they'll see where it goes from there I would imagine.

Sounds reasonable. Who knows if both our backups look good, we may get a reasonable trade offer for one of them next offseason. I realize it's speculative and way down the road but possible.

I don't know if one or both are good. I do think that the first part of the evaluation process is to determine if you're ready to play in the regular season of the NFL. One has played in the regular season and the other one hasn't. And one has been named the "emergency QB".
I don't know where Sanders stands as of now. I certainly don't think they would just throw him out there if they didn't think he was at least able to function on the field in the NFL. But hey, that didn't stop them with DTR who was another fifth round draft pick.
I think his current status pretty much explains the only way Sanders would be playing QB right now. An "emergency".

I’d bet that if the O doesn’t markedly improve against Detroit, win or lose, we will start Gabriel week 5.

Joe is on a short leash and has been IMO.
Honestly, I do not think he was the first choice to be the starter Pickett was.
Joe has to win. He could be replaced if we can't score as well.
It is inevitable. There is no way for the Browns to have Joe as the starter in 2026.

Honestly, I thought we would only win 5-6 games this year always hoping that I was wrong and we would win more. However, after the first 3 games, where we should be 2-1, maybe we're a little better than I thought. We seem to have a top end D and our ST's are a little better. We may have actually found a kicker. Our O is obviously a problem. We may have a running game with Q and Sampson, but our passing game is anemic. I have a lot of respect for Joe Flacco and what he brings to the team not only as a player but as a mentor. However, his best days are behind him and he cannot elevate the guys around him at this point. Maybe Dillon can. He's got a strong enough arm and he can make and extend plays with his legs. It's time to add that dimension to the Offense which should help our WR's and O-line. I don't think it should be done this week considering whom we're playing and where but maybe in the next 2 games. I'm not as sure of that as you are but I see the realistic possibility that could happen. According to FOX sports the Vikings have the #6 ranked defense. But then you have to consider they have played the Bears, the Falcons and the Bengals backup. In doing so they gave up 20+ points to both the Bears and the Falcons while the Falcons D only gave up 6 points to the Vikings.

I agree with your points Pit but what you also have to consider is we're playing the Vikings on a neutral site and their game this week is in Dublin. I don't know if that's an advantage or disadvantage for them that they're playing 2 weeks in a row out there.

Maybe I had the wrong idea about him, but I was operating under the assumption that DG's ceiling (at least this year) would basically be whatever Flacco could do.
What I mean by that is Flacco's value is being a veteran... knowing where the ball needs to go and getting it there on time. Flacco also has an arm for the long ball, but we don't exactly have the pass-catchers to really make that a focus of the offense. My understanding is also that DG doesn't exactly have a cannon for an arm... he's not going to significantly upgrade our passing game by his arm strength alone.
Expecting a 3rd round rookie QB to provide instant improvement over a veteran doesn't seem like a great plan to me.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I think we're pretty much on the same page. As I tried to convey in my post the Vikings D is highly rated but you have to consider the teams they played and with the Bengals against a back-up QB.
I consider it a strong possibility Gabriel could start against the Vikings. As a matter of fact in my mind the odds of that happening are too close to call.
Giving up 20+ points to both the Bears and the Falcons while the Falcons D only gave up 6 points to the Vikings isn't a ringing endorsement of the Vikings D and indicates to me our D could put their O in a straglehold.

I think that Joe will be pulled by halftime vs the Lions. He's cooked
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

If it looks the GB game. Yes he could be benched.
However, front and center for KS must remain "who gives the best chance to win."
This week of practice is Joe running the team. Yet, KS knows this offense must be better in order to win.
This could be a telling week.
