Drafting Gabriel was a surprise.
Nobody was talking about the Browns interest in him. Yet, when Tommy Rees and KS were interviewed about traits. Both mentioned decision making.
Gabriel, according to reports was really impressive in meetings with his knowledge of offenses. His ability to learn the playbook and process quickly is why he was drafted.
Kyle Murray and Bryce Young both first picks in the draft are 5'10".
Gabriel was scouted heavily by the Browns and selected before Sanders. Yet, it seems that Sanders is the guy people believe in?
Gabriel appears to get overlooked. Why? Because he is 5'11'.
Height is an asset for a quarterback. It is a factor teams consider.
The NFL has had successful smaller quarterbacks. Wilson, Brees, Murray to a degree and Young seems to be improving.
Baker is no giant.
Coming into Camp Sanders will get the hype. Gabriel was the Browns choice. Sanders was drafted because he was still there and was the perceived BPA.
Gabriel maybe the surprise of Camp.

I didn't like the Gabriel pick because you don't tend to get starter-level QBs in the third round. Odds are much higher than you can get a contributor on Oline, LB, maybe safety, RB.
Now that we're gearing up for training camp, draft order means exactly squat. I'm rooting for both him and Sanders. It would be such a dramatic turn if one of these guys (including Pickett) can definitively show that they are gonna be "the man".
I love me some Flacco, but it's clear that he's about as temporary of a solution as you can get. We need to make good (but quick) decisions on the young guys we have in the QB room. This year is gonna be all about determining what we have (if anything) in the 3 young QBs.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I would just love for someone to win the job outright. I mean leave no doubt. Everything else is just noise.. Do we have that guy on the team right now? I sure hope so.

Shorter QBs who succeed are rare. They need to be smart, throw with accuracy and have good timing. Quick feet can help them a lot, quick decisions mean a lot more.
Get them out of the pocket, let them threaten a D with escape-ability skills.
I’m not sold on either rookie, like everyone else here, but only time will tell.

IMO height is an advantage just like arm strength.
However, they don't always determine success.
If a shorter QB gets the wanted results then they have figured a way to overcome that disadvantage.
Gabriel was very productive in college. If he can produce in the pros like he did in college.
I don't care about his height.
I would love to see him become a successful NFL quarterback.
Sanders ended up as a Brown from a different journey.
Pickett a former first rounder has his story.
I want someone to seize the opportunity.

Can't measure heart in terms of height. Mayfield is a pretty good example of that. Drew Breeze also comes to mind.

It's rare you find really good starting QB's in the 3rd round or lower. We took a shot with 2 guys and I hope it turns out well for at least one of them. Mel Kiper thought Sanders should have gone in the 1st round. Obviously, he was in the minority and time will tell who was right or wrong. Gabriel was drafted for what's between his ears according to what AB and KS have said and he does have a pretty good arm and is mobile. If he was 3-4 inches taller, he may have gone somewhere in the 1st round. I hope and pray one of the young guys works out and becomes a solid QB for us.

Some of Mel Kiper's worst predictions. and there's a lot more where these came from.......... 10. “Johnny Manziel should be the number one pick” (2014) 9. “Jamarcus Russell has John Elway like ability” (2007) 8. “Mitch Trubisky is a better prospect than Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson” (2017) 7. “The Colts passing on Trent Dilfer for Marshall Faulk is why they pick 2nd in the draft every year” (1994) 6. “Connor Cook has more NFL ability than Kirk Cousins” (2016) 5. “Mike Williams is a future Hall of Famer” (2005) 4. “Ricky Stanzi will have a better career than Cam Newton and Andy Dalton” (2011) 3. “The Lions will regret passing on Brady Quinn for Calvin Johnson” (2007) 2. “Andre Wadsworth should be the number one pick over Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson” (1998) 1. “If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done” (2010) https://sportswithx.com/the-top-10-biggest-draft-misses-from-mel-kiper-jr/Don't get me wrong, NFL GM's get it wrong too. But if Kiper were that good he would be working in an NFL FO rather than be a media described "draft guru". All 32 NFL GM's disagreed with Kiper's value on Sanders not just once, but four times. There's a reason for that. Sure you have the Tom Brady's of the world. Somebody no one saw coming. But the odds of a third or fifth round QB pick being the next Tom Brady is not only unlikely but borderline against happening by almost astronomical odds. Hope is great and I think that's all reasonable Browns fans can have when it comes to these QB drat picks. Anything more than that is an unreasonable expectation.

Agreed. Mel Kiper serves a purpose but he's really not any better than most at picking players. Again, hope is all we have with Gabriel and Sanders.

If the Browns have another 3-win season both Stefanski and Berry have to go. They should in no way earned the right to draft the future franchise QB. Drafting DTR and Gabriel prove that.

DTR was a late round pick, and Gabriel hasn't taken a single snap yet. They hardly prove anything. I do agree that another 3 win season is unacceptable, though.

Punting on a top 15 QB (now top 10)...pulling down their pants for Watson...saying Watson gave us 'the best chance to win' in camp last year...rolling with just Watson and DTR to start the season recently...are all better reasons to move on than drafting DTR and Gabriel. I have zero faith in these guys to get it 'right' with any QB not named Joe Flacco.

First he claimed it was a mistake not to re-sign Chubb before Chubb has played a down in 2025. Now it's the same BS with Gabriel. His ability to see into the future is AMAZING!

The best QBs in the NFL are all over 6'1. A QB that can run can offset his lack of height And produce yards in that fashion also . Gabriel is in trouble if he is contained In the Pocket. He's too short to consistently thread the ball accurately through a serious Coming up the middle . The advantage he does have is being shorter his target point for pass Rushers is smaller. He can duck and get under arms

That's why you wait until later in the draft to gamble on a shorter one. If you can end up with a long term, quality back-up QB with a third or fifth round pick that's a win. The best QB's with the perfect size and skill set are long gone by that time with very few exceptions you can point to. This was a crappy QB class. I'm glad they waited until the later rounds to take a shot at them.

This little guy chucking the ball, running between defenders legs to avoid a sack. Next best would be to hire him to dress up as Brownie, roaming the sidelines, firing up the crowd, but I suppose a few would call it insensitive and degrading so that probably wouldn't happen.

Hand size. Think hand size. In most cases I don't consider that a huge deal. This would be an exception to that.

I think some of the things that usually go with a 3-win season have to happen in order for Berry and KS to get canned. This past draft did not give the impression that those picking were on the hot seat.

I don’t like short QBs… they can work out but it’s rare…. I think we took a chance on two rookies and pray one works out…. But wouldn’t be surprised if we use our draft leverage to get a first round QB next year… thankfully with being late rounders, if the rookies this year don’t end up working out we didn’t give up much… honestly it’d be great if one ended up at least a back up….

Drafting a player is always a risk.
I have no problem with what the Browns have done with the QB room.
Last season was a disaster. They brought in an old vet who they know.
The brought in a former first round young vet with a chance to resurrect his career.
They did not see a quarterback worth drafting in the first after Ward was taken.
Drafting Gabriel in the third was low risk and they liked him.
Drafting Sanders was a pure case of BPA. Why not take him? They need a quarterback.
I think they did the right thing in the draft and also in signing Pickett and Flacco.

We have 4 QBs who we are gonna look at. Flacco will start the season, we will be 1-5 or whatever, then we'll turn to Gabriel or Sanders, and then probably flip flop again in a few weeks. Just hoping one of those two sticks, if not, we draft one in the 1st round next year
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I think to call it wasted you would have to look at the success rate on 3rd rounders and certainly 5th rounders. 5th rounders are little more than a crap shoot no matter who you pick at that point.
Sure it was a gamble. That goes without saying. Yet so are all draft picks. But odds play heavily into just how much of a gamble it was.

Bone I agree with you on what we’ve done with the QB room. It needed a complete total overhaul and they’ve done that. An old vet who knows our system and has had success here, a young guy that has a chance to resurrect his career as we’ve seen others do recently and 2 draft picks they like. Our FO is taking every avenue to try and rectify the problem and even took a step towards the future with the trade they made if these QB’s don’t work out. I can’t see anything else they could have done better with the situation we were in. I think they’re doing their best to solve the issue.

I am at peace with the Baker saga.
He was never my choice in the draft but I was ok with drafting him. Once he became a Brown; I wanted him to be great sooo bad. I will be forever grateful for that blissful point in time when we beat the Steelers in the Playoffs in Pittsburg.
I understood the trade.
Now I root for him. He had a terrific season last year.
I like Baker and wish him well.

If we don't give them the time, then they were wasted picks if the idea is to draft a QB in the 1st next year.

The idea was to hopefully not have to draft a QB next year. I get what you're saying. But at least as it applies Sanders, I think you might wish to look at the success rate of fifth round draft picks. It's not very good no matter what position you draft. And I would suggest if you find a QB in round 3 or 5, you drafted a player who might help. Even if they end up being a four year backup.

By no means does you draft position write your story, otherwise nobody would need to draft anyone after a certain point, but the odds of the story going against the trend dramatically dwindle as each round ticks off, for sure.

He had a successful 2024 season, almost reaching 4,000 passing yards. Kirk Cousins: Drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, he's been a consistent starter for several teams and is considered a solid starter. Dak Prescott: Drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott has been the Dallas Cowboys' starting quarterback since his rookie season and is considered a solid starter. Despite a hamstring injury in 2024, when healthy, he is capable of passing for over 4,000 yards and at least 30 touchdowns, according to Yahoo Sports. While these players show that success can be found in later rounds, it's important to remember that finding a franchise quarterback outside the early rounds is difficult. Only a small percentage (around 3%) of quarterbacks drafted on Day 3 (rounds 4-7) since 2010 have achieved "solid starter" status.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Why would I need to look at anything? I know that the odds against begin to stack up the deeper in the draft you go, especially after round 2. Even more so when talking about a QB you hope becomes a good starter. Don't you look for every draft pick to be a good starter? No, I want them to suck. What the hell are you talking about.?
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Really doesn't matter the height. As long as they can really play and win games, is all that matters!!
