Ozzy Osbourne was a music icon, who rose to prominence as founding member and lead singer of Black Sabbath in 1968.

The band were pioneers in the heavy metal genre of music, writing iconic tracks like Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man.

After leaving Black Sabbath in 1979 over rising tensions with its other members, Osbourne had a lengthy solo music career releasing more than a dozen albums. His debut single released the next year, Crazy Train, is arguably one of his most famous songs.

The Birmingham-born performer was known for energetic and controversial live shows, including the time he mistakenly bit the head off a bat which the singer thought was rubber in a 1982 show.

By the early 2000s, Osbourne and his family would become reality TV stars after launching the the Osbournes.

The programme, which also included his wife Sharon, their daughter Kelly and son Jack, showcasing their chaotic lives in Los Angeles.

Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, his family has announced.

A statement said: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

Indeed a legend. What a life.

he could’ve been a used -up rum-soaked corpse 45 years ago if he hadn’t found Randy Rhoads, but he always had a knack for surrounding himself with talented musicians.

I played some Blizzard of Ozz tunes today.

I think we can also thank Sharon for the fact his career was resurrected and he stayed with us for so long.

Ozzy was a original . No one sounded like him vocally before
Or since . As far his days with Sabbath , I can't think of a band
That had a better run with their 1st 6 albums .
And Sabbaths influence on hard rock and metal cant be over stated .
The great thing about Sabbath is up until 1984, every album
Had its own distinct sound, and direction. Sabbath was bluesy, jazzy , groggy
Heavy, etc .
Ozzy had such a great ear for talented players . Brad Gillis, Jake E. Lee. And he had already established
Legends play with him like Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley.
