I'm not always successful, but I try to put out well-reasoned arguments to the topics I post about here. I'm a warm-blooded human, so sometimes my posts stray into rant territory.

I've noticed that there generally is little, if any, counterpoint to my posts from those I assume to be Republicans. My argument is that the posters you called out are posting just as much as they always have, it just feels like more now because there's a LOT less substantial debate coming from the other side.

I've said this before and I'll say it again... the posters that have stepped back and/or vanished totally had no problem going in circles with Pit before... so what has changed?


I'll say that I also don't see the value of posting in a liberal echo chamber. I just think the root cause is a little different than what you're getting at.

Again, since timelines seem to be confusing. I quit posting here well before the election and came back after to pen another 1000 posts. So the Encyclopedia Brown assessment that we all evaporated as soon as Trump was elected doesn't really hold much water.

Interestingly, that thread turned into one of the more positive ones in recent memory... which directly started from the very response you linked here.


The original post here looked at the aggregate of topics being discussed on here and made a statement about the overall state of conversation.

I had thought I edited my post, but I guess it didn’t go through. I was going to except you and PDawg because you are both quite substantive in your discussions.

Others SPAM the board with Twitter posts while having everyone on ignore.

Some others have vanished altogether.

I myself haven’t been posting a ton because I’ll bring up what I believe to be well positioned points, not looking to win, but looking to at least have a well thought discussion and it goes absolutely nowhere. Even more so since you haven’t been around.

Since social media and forums in general, there has been some absurd fixation with always putting people in groups and trying to paint them into corners. "The same people that said this... blah, blah, blah..." seems to be accepted by most whether it's the same people or not. I think this exercise also fits this mold.

I don't see anyway any of them would be offended; I mean, they've been called drunks, Nazis, fascists, racist, etc... certainly simply having their screen names won't bother them, right?

Oddly enough - not sure if I was meant to be a targeted recipient - but I saw my UN on the list that JFan posted. So I was curious was my lib city last word was in that thread, and it was actually a self deprecating joke on my part from the last discussion we had, which I enjoyed.

Sorry to keep responding, but I keep catching your posts after the fact. I’m not sure you can definitively say anyone has a monopoly on the childishness of the forum, but I agree it needs to stop. I tried fighting that for years and then I probably ended up giving in on that myself, from time to time at least.

I really hate the deference celebrities endlessly get when it comes to politics, but I actually saw a quote from Harrison Ford, which spoke to me in the darkness of my office after my 4 AM (ugh) teleconference this morning:

As far as your previous post -- you mentioned PDawg, and for good reason, as you explained -- fair-minded, substantive, often a voice of reason. Jfan certainly fits that mold. What's more, these are voices that actually represent middle-ground and the majority of opinion, on many subjects.

They've both voiced why they don't post here, a few times, and haven't really pulled any punches when doing so.

Hell, Jfan stated clearly that he no longer supported Trump and wouldn't even vote for him last November. Not too long ago, he was attacked, mob style, for offering a small morsel of support for Trump... on a very specific issue. I ask again, who would want to do that on a regular basis?

It was unfair of me not to include him as well because he and I actually went on the journey away from “The Party” together. I remember commiserating with him when the bailouts were issued in ‘08. That’s when my loyalty cracked. Still would be 12 more years before I actually voted for a Democratic presidential candidate, but that was a watershed moment for sure - and he and I processed that together IIRC.

I agree with you. I speak for myself when I say that it's sometimes too easy to do this, especially when debating. I think it boils down to attacking/debating people/groups vs topics. Even when I'm in 'attack mode', I try to do so against certain topics (ex. specific sub-topics w/in the illegal alien debate) vs the personalities that usually go with it.

It's conjecture with a little bit of (to your previous point) painting with too broad a brush. You've explained your position several times, and I get it.

As to your last statement, I really don't think that's true. I know I never, ever feel like I needed to be right in a discussion that provided good back and forth.

Here's my last word. A lot of people have left for a lot of different reasons. Some just maybe life circumstances, some just tired of politics in general. I am of the firm opinion that many of those lists of reasons contain some common denominators that I haven't been shy about expressing. And that "opinion", in many cases, has some ironclad evidence to being true. Many others have not been shy about saying it out loud.

I'm burned out on Trump, burned out on arguing, burned out on division, and burned out on crappy football. I've simply found better things to do this summer than argue on a message board all day. This is my first summer "home" in six years. I'm about to go check on my garden and work on my Nova.

And an entire group left within a couple of months of trump being elected. It was as if the trumpian rapture had occurred! And then they came back to place the blame on others. The trumpian resurrection? And just think, it wasn't so long ago they were calling is the snowflakes. It's as if the tables have turned in the blink of an eye. Okay, okay, okay.... In a virtual blink of an eye.

You just keep on believing that "trumpians" left because they can't defend him if that makes you feel good. You're wrong, but if it makes you feel good, so be it.

It takes a special type of person\people to keep originating posts when there's no real valid or fruitful discussion being had. No new insights being learned with differing viewpoints or anything. Usually because A) they like to hear themselves talk due to inflated ego, B) they need to see like minded individuals share their same views because it makes them feel better about themself, or C) If these people all think the same, well then that must mean they're right! This goes back to B.

It's very weird. Each President is a person at the end of the day. They are unique, have their own personality, and set of life experiences. Each one does good things and bad during their time in office. No person is going to do everything great 100% of the time that you agree with. That's not humanly possible, even at a regular job.

I am convinced that if George Washington came back from the dead and were elected President, if the letter by his name was an R then these posters would be doing the exact same thing. That goes the same for the other party if the situation were reversed and he had a D next to his name.
