She is speaking Spanish and we are asked to rely on the translation. There may be a problem was my first thought.

I don't know if the translation or syntax is correct, you have to be careful with sources these days especially when another language is involved.

What we do know is that The Blaze if a far right leaning media source per ad-fontes.

Now if the translation was accurate, she violated a long standing principal of immigrants that America is your homeland. And she should be called out for that.

Now it may be accurate and not correct, simply because the way of the translation results in a different result. So a game could be on.

That said, at one time I too had Italian relatives with Italian flags proudly displayed at there home. It is the reality of being a melting pot.

I have no issue with someone recognizing their historical roots.

I don’t know if she said it or not. I don’t care. I just find it funny that you call out his source and then turnaround and use New Republic and Huffington Post.

I already hate the amount of time that has even been spent on this, but having lived in Spain and traveled in Latin America, “Americana(o)” signifies pan-American, as in you’re from the American continent. It’s one way Spanish and Latin Americans differentiate themselves as either being from Spain or being from “the Americas.” I would translate that as she is signifying herself as linking the US and Guatemala as both “American.”

Newsweek and USA Today are there as well. Different readings. My point is that the same facts can be presented with totally different perspectives. That is the world we live in. Facts are not Facts when bias is involved, they are opinions.
