Knew he wasn’t making the team…. He was the odd man out if we kept three…. Glad we got something for him…

Thanks for the memories, Kenny!
Gabriel now the back-up and Sheduer can run the scout team.
The Dangerous one was emphatic the Browns were keeping four players. Oops.

It looks like Shedeur's performance Saturday moved him up a notch on the depth chart.

it was just a matter of time .. surprised we got a 5th
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Well they got their fifth round pick back at least. I guess we get stuck with Watson on the depth chart when he comes back =(
It's also probably the only fair thing to do for Pickett.

The talking heads on NFL network, Good Morning Football, will have another angle on the Cleveland QB drama. They kept asking “what are the Browns doing with 4 quarterback.??!!”
They need to get off SS’s jockstrap. They embarrass themselves.

Gabriel has outplayed Sanders, he deserves the backup role. Prime Time’s son looked like a true rookie against the Rams, DG made some nice throws and doesn’t seem to get rattled. Eyes downfield, throws with timing and accuracy.
He reminds me, a little, of Doug Flutie. Someone else made that comparison awhile back. Might have been Peen.

Due to his injury Pickett couldn’t get any traction at camp. Wish him well. He’s a better QB than Sanders right now but I understand the trade.

He was always the odd man out… Flacco was the vet starter we were going with… Gabriel and Sanders are rookies that the FO is gonna want to keep on the roster at least a year… Picket didn’t have much of a chance and the injury didn’t help him…

IMO Gabriel has made them comfortable.
They had to feel that he can handle the backup job.
Pickett didn't get a chance because of his injury and the way Joe took over the locker room and practice field.
A fifth might come in handy in the draft. So, no lose there.

Are we in a better position to win this year with the Raiders 5th Rd pick next year and SS? OR Pickett and no SS?

I'm just curious... Why hasn't anyone talked about Blake Whiteheart's alligator arms? The throw was catchable by him, but he pulled his arms back last minute and Makuba played him on the throw instead of Johnson. Let's talk about the TE pulling his arms back and the WR not even attempting to take down CB post INT. Now, anytime there is that much traffic, don't throw the ball. Gabriel isn't innocent here, but that pull back of the arms caused this particular INT. Honestly, after the first two weeks, I have Shedeur and Dillon neck and neck. Week 3 was a bust... not enough talent on the field to evaluate anything. Practice is a better indication than that.

Are we in a better position to win this year with the Raiders 5th Rd pick next year and SS? OR Pickett and no SS? If Pickett or SS were playing, things would have had to have gone very wrong. At that point, you're looking towards next year. I get that people are used to us using an alarming number of QBs now, but that's not normal. We might be in better position this year if we got rid of both and rostered players at other positions more likely to see the field if things are going well. Teams have to balance now and the future. They decided Kenny wasn't top 2 now, and Sanders had more upside for the future. QB3 isn't really a now position. Yet, when QB1 is old, getting QBs (potential future starter and backup) acclimated to the system makes sense. Going with the one on a cheap rookie deal going forward makes sense there, too.

I wish we had kept Pickett. I would've liked to get a better look at him, but I'm not going to sweat it. I like the idea of more practice snaps going to Gabriel/Sanders.

Honestly, I think Johnson quitting on his route letting the DB play both potential pass catchers and gumming up the spacing which led Whiteheart to pull up was the bigger problem. Don't get me wrong, Whiteheart should have at least tried to catch it, but if Johnson runs his route right, the DB isn't there. I hear the Gabriel shouldn't have thrown it, but he was expecting Johnson to keep running his route correctly. If Johnson does, the DB can't go through/by him to get where he ended up. QBs generally aren't reading the entire field all the time and the ball doesn't travel instantaneously. They are going through their keys/reads one by one and counting on their guys to be where they are supposed to be. It appears that the DBs assignment was to cover the deepest guy. When that guy doesn't go as deep as he is supposed to taking the DB with him, It can make the right read "wrong."

I also think this move speaks to where this team is this year. It's not as urgent for us to have a strong backup QB because we're focused on building the roster and opening a window.

Honestly, I think they felt both rookies were at or above Pickett's level. If either rookie didn't show up in training camp. It isn't out of the realm of possibilities that they would cut a 3rd rounder. Much more common and easy to cut a 5th rounder. I don't think they deemed Pickett a better prospect and just said, let's keep the rookies since they are rookies. My hope is Flacco stays healthy and we are able to string some wins early in the season. If either of those don't hold true, I wouldn't be against seeing Gabriel around week 5 or 6. If he fails for 2-3 weeks straight, bring Shedeur in after the bye.

I think both have looked like rookies, at times. If we thought ourselves contenders, we'd have a vet backup on the roster.
To your point, having both rookies have at least 1 decent outing on their stat sheets through preseason has got to be very comforting.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
