Trump ally Charlie Kirk was shot at an event in Utah on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter says.

The extent of Kirk’s injuries were not immediately clear.

Kirk is one of the most prominent pro-Trump activists and conservative media personalities in the United States. He has garnered millions of fans and co-founded Turning Point USA, an organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school and university campuses, in 2012.

The FBI is monitoring the incident at Utah Valley University, the agency’s Director Kash Patel said.

“Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation,” Patel said in a post on X.

Just before the shooting, Kirk posted about an event at the university. “Utah Valley University is FIRED UP and READY for the first stop back on the American Comeback Tour,” Kirk wrote in a post on X.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said he’s being briefed by law enforcement on the incident involving Kirk.

“Those responsible will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of every political persuasion must unite in condemning this act. Our prayers are with Charlie, his family, and all those affected,” Cox said.

I just posted a thread using the exact same source. I'm sure the refs will take care of that. There's no room for such violence no matter which side of the political aisle you're on. While all of the details are unknown there's a very high probability this was politically motivated. This has to stop!

That is just freaking horrible on the worst level. I fear for our country.

I saw the footage and I don’t think there’s any way he could have survived.

R.I.P. and prayers for his beautiful family. I cannot even express how disgusted I am right now. He was one of the special ones that opened up so much dialog on both sides of the aisle.

Charlie Kirk will be missed here in the US. He was doing great work trying to get both sides to talk and have conversation while exposing the lies of socialism to college kids. He was a born again Christain and in being so was a child of God and will hear "Well done my true and faithful servant." I feel sorry for his wife and kids. I also think this tragic incident will leave a hole in our society. RIP Charlie for all eternity enjoying Heavan where we all strive to be someday.

Sad day. A good young person assassinated and a country on the brink. I hope people don't start shooting back.

There is a good chance this gets ugly.

If being on the right side of history ends up being wrong, then I’ll just have to be wrong. I don’t need to dislike you to see MAGA is delusional and insane. I don’t need to demean any private citizen to be critical of fascists. I do belittle the idiots in this regime, and they have earned that. There is plenty for all, we just need to EAT THE RICH. Then Cracker Barrel can be fun again, for all ethnicities.

trump has embraced any kind of hate he can to get votes. He fuels the flame of hate. He doesnt do it because he hates, he does it so he can make more money. This is a horrible tragedy. trump started the hate. If trump never ran there would be a lot less hate.

I see the intellectuals have entered the conversation.

You've spent twelve years blaming everything on Trump while ignoring some of the most violent rhetoric in our nation's history spewed by the left. But to blame this on Trump? It would be despicable if it weren't so sadly predictable.

All of the hate comes from 1 side of the aisle, and it is not Republicans. Democrats hate Capitalism. They hate the Flag. They hate the National Anthem. They hate the pledge of Allegiance. They hate Patriotism. You know it was not that long ago the American Flag being carried onto football fields by high school players were triggering them. They hate the American way and want to destroy it. MAGA and conservatives want to conserve the American way and try to protect it.

There is ubiquitous hate from everywhere. It’s all awful and we have to stop resorting to reptilian instincts. There is hate from powerful figures across the media landscape and the political spectrum. It is not a one way street, less we forget people like the Minnesota Senators.

Everyone is letting their emotions absolutely captivate their dopamine-enforced rage. I have my own thoughts on Kirk, but I won’t go into it now. All I know is that I have immense sadness for his wife and kids. It’s truly awful no matter what way you cut it, but taking a broad brush like you and some others are here won’t help anything.

One thing he talked about was that violence happens when we stop talking to each other. I agree with him there. As has been pointed out, we have plenty of that going on here on DT alone. The vast majority of any conversations we do have are flinging excrement like we’ve evolutionarily regressed into damn monkeys again.

I can’t control what any of you do. All I can say is that if you want to be respectful, I am always open to dialogue. At the end of the day, agree or disagree on politics, my truest thoughts are that I want nothing but the best for all of you, no matter where you side.

Today is Sept. 11th, the anniversary of the 9/11/2001 terror attacks.

Could there be a link between Kirk's death and those 9-11-2001 attacks...?

No doubt about that. At least the outward hate. My hope is that we remain calm and don't start acting like many of you people do when you don't get your way.

The amount of people celebrating this assassination in the world (that I've witnessed personally and seen on the internet) for the past several hours has been the most disgusting, depressing, soulless garbage I've experienced in quite awhile. There was PLENTY of things I disagreed with re: Kirk but he was snuffed out because his movement was effective and changing the minds of many young people. This is what happens when terms like Nazi, white supremacy, fascist, (insert)phobe are used as descriptors by people for people who don't/can't read and listen for themselves-- just because they disagree with their views. This board is no exception as we see daily. I work for a progressive non-profit and heard co-workers getting together yesterday saying "I hope he is dead", "He deserves this", 'This is what happens when....." all while laughing and being gitty. These are absolute garbage human beings.

Both sides have played this game and have responsibility on a macro level, but make no mistake- it is not balanced. It is not the equal. The left is FAR MORE culpable over the last 10-15 years with this rhetoric of calling for violence and wildly labeling people just because they don't agree with their political stances.... and we saw that once again come to light yesterday.

I agree with Ballpeen. This could get ugly. Now, we might see a response from far right individuals who want to snuff out someone on the other side now....not necessarily a politician but someone like Kirk....a strong voice on the left. All people in the political public sphere should be worried that this could get out of hand now.

There will be some sort of transformation as a result of this. Just not sure what it will be.

One thing I’d like to know is who the actual killer is before I draw a conclusion. Odds are you’re probably right, though.

I agree with most of what you wrote. I do wish you’d be willing to have an actual dialogue on the topic with some of us.

Anyhow, take care.

One thing that seems to be missing from this discussion is a sense of balance. It wasn't a liberal who shot four Democrats killing two of them in Minnesota.....................

House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot in their home early Saturday morning.

Sen. John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin) and his wife, Yvette, were also shot in their home in a related attack. Walz said both are expected to survive.

Are your memories so short you can't remember three months ago?

This isn't an "us or them" issue. This is a "we" issue.

And "we" have a current president who legitimized political violence. He pardoned every convicted person who committed violence. Even those who assaulted over 100 police officers. Political violence seemed perfectly fine as long as it was in support of him. The problem is his followers weren't the only ones who got the message. The effect is now many believe that violence is justified for political reasons. It motivates such thing as the Democrats being assassinated in Minnesota and to Charlie Kirk being assassinated in Utah. Political violence has not and never has been justified. I remember the 1960's. I remember being sent home early from school and seeing my mom cry for the first time after the assassination of JFK. I remember the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and MLK Jr.

There are no circumstances that justify political violence on any scale. There is no movement nor activism that excuses it. And that goes for both sides. But watching people convince themselves that it's all being committed by the right or the left, that only one side are the guilty party will only lead to more of the same and can only be caused by wearing blinders.

This is a national problem being perpetrated by extremists on both sides. As the signs read at the zoo. "DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!"

A couple hundred yards away with absolute precision for mortality. I don’t know who it was, but I do know they knew what they were doing.

I also forgot about the arson attempt against Shapiro. This is getting awful.

Actually, it appears I’m wrong.

This expert walks through how he thinks the shooters was rather inexperienced or average:

College student, maybe? Just speculating at this point. I hope they get him.

I was in your camp in thinking it was a professional until I started hearing some of the same comments. In short, being in an ideal spot and in a prone position basically lets the weapon do the heavy lifting.

However, "the mission" seemed to be carried out with a great deal of precision, unlike the two attempts on Trump's life.

So, a few things were going through my head... how would you plan something like that without being seen doing any recon? How would you be sure you have access, not be seen, be able to blend in and escape, etc, etc?

I guess last night I decided that he would have plenty of time since he probably knew the schedule way in advance. Then I heard this morning this event was only announced six days ago. I also heard over the last hour that he is suspected to be a college-aged person.

Here's where I'm at now. This is a student from Utah, I'd suspect that a while back he heard conservative students remark that Kirk had contacted them and responded to a request for an event with something like "we're trying to get it on the schedule". That was when he decided to prepare. He HAS access, he HAD time to plan, he KNEW exactly where he would shoot from, he KNEW where to go in the school, change clothes and be on his merry way.

Everything you said makes sense. I guess maybe start with the organizers and ask them who they shared all of this info with? Cross reference that with whoever has access to that area. I’m sure the pros are working on it, but I can’t help myself from trying to go through the motions.

I'm sure they've already done that. I looked a little while ago and saw that Utah Valley University has several conservative student groups, including the College Republicans, Students for Trump, and Turning Point USA. Leaders from those groups would have been contacted immediately, I would think.

It may be useful info for identifying the person, but word is coming out that they are way ahead of this on the video footage front. Also, they've found the weapon in the woods with a palm print and the stupid, imbecile messages written on it. No professional would ever do that regardless of how much they hated the person in the crosshairs.

They just released a photo of the suspect and are asking the public for help identifying him. The picture certainly appears to be a young, white man of college age.
