MAGNA, Utah — Two men have been arrested after allegedly leaving an incendiary device underneath a FOX 13 News vehicle and then forcing an evacuation of a Magna neighborhood when the FBI served an overnight warrant on their home.

The men, Adeeb Ahamed Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were booked into jail and face multiple charges, including Threat of Terrorism, Possessing Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Possessing Explosive Devices.


The device underneath the FOX 13 News vehicle was originally located on Friday and determined to be real. According to officials, the device had been lit but "failed to function."

Because of the type of device discovered and where it was located, it was considered a significant threat to public safety, leading the FBI to assume jurisdiction over the case.

During the FBI investigation, the suspects were tracked to a Magna home in the 2700 South block of 8500 West, which Salt Lake County property records show Adeeb Nasir owns. Both men lived at the address, according to a probable cause statement.

On Saturday, the FBI served a warrant on the home, along with the Salt Lake City Police Department and Unified Fire bomb squads to make sure no other explosive devices were a danger inside.

The men were located at the home, and during the search, told investigators that "two hoax weapons of mass destruction" that officials discovered were "real," the arrest report stated.

Because of the devices, the home was evacuated, as well as nearby homes in the neighborhood.

Although the warrant was issued for the search of evidence related to the incendiary devices found under the FOX 13 News vehicle, law enforcement officials "observed additional contraband and evidence of crimes outside the scope of the original warrant, to include firearms and firearm related items, explosives and explosive-related components, illegal narcotics and associated paraphernalia, as well as electronic devices reasonably believed to contain evidence" of the original device that was discovered.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, both men had protective orders that prohibit them from possessing firearms.

Court records show Adeeb Nasir had prior misdemeanor convictions but no prior violent offenses or felony convictions in his criminal record. He was found guilty in 2022 for “impaired driving” and possession of a controlled substance (“marijuana/spice”) — both Class B misdemeanors.

Adil Nasir has no prior misdemeanor or felony convictions and no prior violent offenses in his criminal record, according to a Public Safety Assessment Report.

Booking data from the Salt Lake County Jail shows Adeeb Nasir is a citizen of the United States who was born in Pakistan. Adil Nasir was born in Utah.

Both men are being held without bail due to "substantial evidence to support" the charges, according to court documents.

“FOX 13 News is working closely with law enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority," said FOX 13 Station Manager Leona Wood.

I understand that calling for violence is not protected speech. I understand that saying karma is what why Charlie Kirk was murdered is insensitive. I don't condone any of that. But here is the comment he was fired over......

There are plenty of examples where people simply voiced their opinions whether you agree with them or not that have been targeted. Meanwhile when Minnesota lawmakers were the targets and their murders were clearly celebrated online there was no such outrage. The flags were not flown at half staff and people weren't being fired over their opinions. Hopefully you can see the huge discrepancy there.

Always easy to ignore all context when you've got an agenda to push...

I think part of the problem I have with the methodology (?) is that they use the term violence in the headline but then only use the numbers for murders. Is the intent of throwing a molotov cocktail at a police car not violent? Is it not violence if the cops get out and don't die? Is it not violence if they miss the target?

"Right-wing extremists" appear to be more lethal in their violence. A large part of that is probably just ease of access to firearms. More people on the right wing have them, and experience with them, before they go off the deep end. But are more of them violent? I'm not sure the numbers would bear that out.

I worry that the increase in violence and the excuses for it on the left, could ultimately lead to the left getting more lethal in their violence. To me, the left is painting a false reality just like the right. Both sides make excuses for their own, which would seem to lead to it only getting worse on both sides.

There is no excuse for violence in a civil society.

People who celebrate a man's dying shouldn't be in education, government, or media.

Does it really surprise you that a man whose job is to protect people got put on leave for equating someone getting murdered to Karma?

I'm not for political violence of any kind against anyone. But let's not pretend charlie Kirk wasn't who he was.

I'm not sure we agree here. While it is certainly true, which I've never denied, is that there are violent extremists on both sides, I think you may be missing one huge factor which often times is rarely reported. While more individual violence it happens very often. But when the attacks are restricted to an individual or only a few and nobody is killed, it doesn't garner the headlines of more wide spread events.

I'll give you one such example and the only way I even know about it is that it happened in my area and was covered on local news.....................

I believe the most outward justification and encouragement for political violence in my lifetime at least, is when all of the Jan. 6th offenders were pardoned. I do not believe any rational person could not see this as an open door policy to commit political violence against others as long as it is done in the name of and in support of trump. That changed everything.
