Well the last few days there's been some stuff going on in my neighborhood. It's never a good thing when you look across the street and see the house roped off in yellow tape....

I live on a quiet circle in suburbia. Little traffic. Pretty peaceful. Not much really goes on......

Well, I've lived at my house now for going on 7 years this spring. Directly across the street from me lived this elderly couple. I never knew them well, just would wave if I was out cutting the yard, etc. The man seemed in poor health, as he would cut his yard on a riding mower and always had a mask on. I hadn't seen him in about a year when I found out this fall that he had died a while back.

I stopped seeing his wife as well for a while late in the summer and suddenly started seeing some younger people and another older lady at the house. And I really hate to judge people, but I didn't like the looks of them, and started noticing not much going on during the days there, but a lot of traffic later on at night.

I come to find out that the guy who is dead and owned the house had an ex-wife, and that alledgedly is her family over there. The house is under foreclosure because he had died, and his wife is in a nursing home permanently now. So basically these people aren't supposed to be there....

Well Saturday night about 1 am I was sitting on the couch watching TV and feeding the baby a bottle. All of a sudden I hear dogs barking across the street pretty loudly, which is unusual. The people who moved in had a rottweiler they had in the front yard at first, but after complaints and it getting free, they got in trouble for it. I have a very large window in my living room, but the blinds were shut at the time.

Maybe 10 minutes after I hear the dogs, I see lights flashing.

Now I know something is up.

I stop feeding Kenleigh and look out the window. There's 2 ambulances, a firetruck and 3 cop cars. If someone is sick or ill, there's no reason for all those people, so I know at this point something is up. Plus the cops are shining lights around the front porch and yard. After about 10 minutes, here comes the EMS with a guy on a stretcher. The cops ended up staying until 4 in the morning.

The next morning, I'm outside and my neighbor who just happens to be a detective tells me that there was a shooting. DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET. Man, I don't want this stuff going on around me. Here, the guy walked into the house when someone was waiting and followed him in and shot him in the neck and back. He alledgedly knew who it was but wouldn't say, so it's probably drug-related. Just friggin' great.

Well, the house is taped off, so they appear to be out of there. And with it under foreclosure hopefully they will be kept from coming back. I have a family and now am worried about their safety. I hope this was the end of it, and the house will be soon sold.

Then today, my wife calls my hysterical on the phone. Her dad was babysitting my daughter, and he was in the basement with her when his hip dislocated and he's screaming in pain. So we freak out and speed home because my kid is roaming free and he can't do anything. THANK GOD she did not go near the steps and was just fine. Luckily, I tried calling my sister and she answered the phone (she works midnights) and ran over the house before we got there. So there were more ambulances all over the house because they needed extra help to try to move him out of the basement. LOL all the neighbors were like, now what????? They took him into surgery and he's doing fine now. Hopefully the neighborhood will get back to normal again.

That is scary. My friend who lives in San Diego had a bullet come through his window about a year ago. It was a drive by aiming at someone on the street and went right through his living room. He was lucky he wasn't home but you never know, crime is out of control everywhere

Glad your father-in-law is ok

That is scary. People are stupid, they really are. Nobody gives a damn about anyone it seems. I didn't hear the gunshots, so at the time I wasn't sure what was going on. If I did, I probably would have reacted differently. Now if a bullet flew through the house like at your friend's house, that's just flat out scary.

It's something that I'm trying to get used to in Orlando... I live in a bad apartment complex, there's already been a break-in at the apartment directly across from mine, and the next building, along with other cases of grand theft and some violent crimes. You can say I'm use to hearing the sirens everyday, but I'm really not.

My hometown is as quiet as can me, kind of like your neighborhood... You'd be surprised if you saw an Ambulance once a month.

I hope your father-in-law gets better.

My father-in-law went to surgery and they got it back in and released him, so he's home now and doing well.

Ohh man. I am so glad that didn't spill into the street or something where a stray bullet (good song by KMFDM BTW ) would have went into your house. It was prob just one of those things. Glad to hear your father-in-law is alright as well and the baby was good.

Stairs are nerve wracking. back in September I had the flu and my mom was cool and watching the baby, which left Ali here with me. I was real sick and couldn't get off the couch really. She was being good coloring and everything and I dozed off. Well, "Ali the Explorer" walked down the stairs and decided to go out for a walk. She was knocking on peoples doors My doorbell rang and I woke up and Al was nowhere to be found. I ran down to the door and there were 2 ladies asking me if this was my daughter Just wait till Kenleigh pulls something like that. it scared the living hell out of me b/c today you just never know. Plus I live in a huge apartment complex (Tamarac in Willoughby) so the chances of something bad happening increases b/c of the traffic alone I was so mad I could have spanked her for hours, but instead I just gave her a long screaming session and then told her I didn't want to speak to her for a while. That worked like a charm b/c I told my wife to play it up show upset I was and now she will not go near our stairs unless she is with one of us.

Wow, I'm sure your heart probably dropped when she wasn't there. That'd freak me out for sure.

I remember when I was younger, guessing around 8, my brother was gone out of the house, so he'd have been about 5. Me and my mom freaked out and ran out and down the road. His friend lived 2 houses down and we asked if he was there and they said no. So we're looking everywhere, in the woods behind our house, sewers, etc and the neighbors come back out and say, yeah he is here, they didn't know. It's always scary when a young kid like that is gone.

WOW,,, that was a busy time for your hood man,,,

Hope everyone is ok..,

Foreclosures are horrible.. had one in my hood a while back.. The people that lived there that lost the house were very nice, but he lost his job, and instead of selling the house, he kept making payments until his savings ran out... He thought he would find another job in time,, but he didn't..

About a year and a half after he stopped making payments (cause he was out of money) he finally gave up and moved out. The house sat vacant for a while and then we started seeing activity around it again..

Turned out, it was kids.. they broke in, destroyed the inside of the home...

Terrible situation.. not as bad as yours, but bad just the same.

It can happen anywhere, but it does stink when it happens to you. when I was younger I lived in Garfield Hts and lived across the street from a guy who was a nam vet with mental issues (I actually coached his son in Baseball) snapped and killed 4 people because of loud music. He escaped through vista park and the news was calling him "Rambo" because he was supposebly hiding in this park, if you knew the park back in the 80's it has some serious wooded areas. the cops had this area surrounded for a few days until the guy gave himself up so 40 miles away from the actual scene of the crime, but those few days were freaky.

Glad to hear your ok though, my only advice is to move on and try to forget.

It's true, but it is what it is.,,

I'm not a wealthy man,, so the neighborhood I'm speaking of isn't 1 million dollar homes or anything..

But condos in there go for anywhere from 250k and up.. so it's not shabby either. It can happen anywhere.

Whats up dawgpound, glad everyone is doing good..

As for the respect level in kids, HORRIBLE.... I like the ones that walk in the middle of the street, and take their good old time to move, then give you the finger because you mean mug them.. It all starts with the parents bro.. Start whipping that arse early.. The heck with time out, you dont listen, your getting it.. My kids are awesome.. 11 and 6, best kids I know, AND YES IM BRAGGIN, because I worked hard to get them like they are.. I taught them that if you dont respect, you'll get none back.. The kids are our seeds, they learn what you teach them.. THATS how it is..

One more thing.. KEEP THE KIDS OF THE INTERNET, TILL THEY MOVE OUT..................

I'm glad you're bragging about your kids. You should. Some people care more about themselves and their social lives then their kids. You're raising them the right way, just keep them away from bad influences as they get older, because hanging with the wrong people can turn the best kids into the worst.
