I have a hard time seeing how a third round rookie is going to be the savior
I don't think many sane people are expecting him to be the savior at this juncture...more like a little spark.
With the woes of the O-line at this point, it makes sense to have someone who can move a bit better than Joe. We can roll some pockets and Gabe can run to at least a good level.
It's time. Joe isn't the future and the more we have seen, he isn't the current.
There are 13 games left in the season. We can now give Gabe a solid 7 games. If it still stinks, Sanders has 6 games if he has learned the playbook. If Gabe shows solid improvement, he is our guy and we will jettison Sanders this off season in some sort of trade.
There is no upside to playing Joe in more than some back-up role. With 2 first rounders next year, the last thing we need to do is spend more high picks on a QB. With the first 3 picks next draft, IMO we need to draft 2 O-linemen and a WR. We can debate on how that gets mixed and possibly who picks the players. Hit corner/safety in the 3rd round. Obviously, who's available might make some difference. The time is now. We aren't going anywhere as it is. It's time to get our first glimpse towards the future
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
It is imperative to find out if Gabriel or Sanders has any true potential.
If they do not we are forced to draft a quarterback. There is no other choice.
Looking at the big picture. Next year whoever the quarterback ends up being it will be a year or two of development. We are not going to vault into Super Bowl contention.
Hell look at teams like the Bills. They have an established star quarterback and they haven't gotten to the Super Bowl. Neither have the Ravens.
We have to find our guy first and as of right now. We have no clue. We are hoping a third or fifth round quarterback is an answer when we have never been able to find a guy in the first round.
I am looking at the quarterbacks that will be in the 26 draft. And holding out to hope for Gabriel.
It is hard being a Browns fan. I am not kidding either. I am so sick of not having a quarterback. Just having a guy to believe in would be a huge deal. Just hope that your quarterback can win in the clutch would mean a lot.
Our offense has been so bad (and our OL is a lot to blame) ... having a QB who can move the pocket a bit might help
I'm not expecting Gabriel to be good, but maybe will make the offense slightly improved
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
If Gabriel does not pan out, then Stefanski needs to go. This was his handpicked QB. Gabriel was projected to be a 6th round draft pick and the Brown FO felt so strongly they reached and drafted him 3 rounds early. Another smartest guy in the room move. If Gabriel works out great but if he does not, he is further proof that Berry and Stefanski should not be making the pick for future franchise QB next draft.

I'd be more in line with this thinking if Gabriel was a first round pick and this team didn't accrue another first rounder for next year's QB draft class.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
It would be different if the second pick in the draft were a quarterback.
And yet they reached for him 3 rounds early and gave up Kenny Pickett and have now seemed to have gave up on the 2025 season. When does Berry and Stefanski get held accountable for their mistakes? The AFC North looks as winnable as ever this year and, in their 6th, season the best this team can do is throw a 3rd round reach in a QB in the 5th game.

I don't think it was that early. I saw 4th-5th round projections, so in the 3rd isn't a big reach if he is the QB you want. All it takes is one team to screw up your plans.

Trade bait. Well put, 'Peen. What must our starter do to pass this vague "see what we've got" test? Any measurable metrics at all? What priorities will satisfy those who feel it is a must to satisfy their curiosity. Make this observable and measurable in terms of the crappy OLine play and lousy offense, plays and players, thus far. State some guidelines up front to be fair, because the judgment from Ski is at least suspect IMO.

As for all third round draft picks approximately 16% ever become starters. 11.4% of 3rd round QB draft picks ever become starters.
So anyone claiming that if a 3rd round draft pick at QB isn't a success the HC should be fired defies any common sense. I recommend you consider the source on that one.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

So why did they trade Pickett? Sounds like excuses are already being made for Stefanski and his QB before he ever takes the field.

Excuses would be someone claiming if a third round QB which historically has an 11.4% chance of success doesn't succeed the HC should be fired. Sounds like excuses to promote firing Stefanski are already being made.

The AFC North is more open right now to win than any time since the Browns came back and the best this FO can come up with is a QB they reached for in the 3rd round. They had Kenny Pickett a backup for the Super Bowl Champions last year that started 2 games for them Is this 3rd round rookie better than him? He better be.

6th season, and what do we have to hang our hats on?

I'm not saying they did a good job addressing the QB position, but you're making it seem like we are just a QB away from a division title.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Thank you. He makes it sound like Kenny Pickett would have led the Browns to the playoffs.

So if they had kept Kenny Pickett the Browns would have made the playoffs?
He may have gave them a better chance than a rookie that was a reach in the 3rd round. The AFC North looks like it is down this year, and our FO does not have a team ready and prepared to contend.

So you have nothing to indicate by Pickett's play during his NFL career that he could have led the Browns to the playoffs had they kept him on the roster whatsoever other than "He may have gave them a better chance".
Thanks.

He was the backup QB on the Super Bowl Champions. So, you believe this reached for 3rd round QB is better than him. I hope you right. So does Berry and Stefanski because if he is not and the Browns are picking top 5 again, they both need to be shown the door.
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money." Margarat Thatcher
You do realize as the backup QB he didn't lead his team to the SB, right? So if the Browns are in the position to actually draft a franchise QB they should be fired for it?

Here are the PFF guys. Also check Mike Renner from PFF if interested.
Ok so we are back to Gabriel will turn the franchise around. Wonderful. I hope you are right. If not, a regime change must be made. Six years should have been enough time to find a QB.
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money." Margarat Thatcher
Not really relevant, but I think it's weird that they mentioned DG but not Schwesinger. A viable backup-level QB is perfectly fine for end of the third round.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
Just let Gabriel play. If he's not very good so be it. Don't forget we have Sanders waiting in the wings! lol
Oh, I just read that Flacco is now behind Gabriel, not Sanders. Doesn't lend much confidence in him.
Which again shows the incompetence of this FO. They drafted him but have 0 confidence in him. Why did they trade Pickett instead of cutting Sanders. Makes no sense. Unless they're not trying to win games.
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money." Margarat Thatcher
Most 5th rounders are far from ready to start. There's nothing unusual about that.
But why would we trade Pickett and not cut a 5th round QB that is not going to see the field if you're trying to win games? Don't you want the best 53 man roster no matter what when you're trying to win.
