Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that he might send national guard troops to Portland, Oregon, apparently because he was misled about the scale of small protests outside an immigration detention facility there by a TV report which incorrectly presented video recorded during a protest in 2020 as having taken place in the city this summer.

“I will say this, I watched today, I didn’t know that was continuing to go on, but Portland is unbelievable, what’s going on,” Trump said. He then claimed, incorrectly, that he had seen video evidence of “the destruction of the city”.

In fact, a handful of protesters have demonstrated outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in a remote area of Portland along the south waterfront this year, but the scale of the protests, which attract dozens at most, is nothing like the 2020 protests that regularly drew thousands or tens of thousands of demonstrators to a central part of the city.

“Are you going into Portland?” a reporter asked Trump.

“Well, I’m going to look at it now because I didn’t know that was still going on; this has been going on for years,” the president replied. He then explained how he had been misled into the entirely false belief that the large-scale protests from 2020 had continued.

“We’ll be able to stop that very easily, but that was not on my list, Portland, but when I watched television last night, this has been going on,” Trump said.

The president did not cite the specific news report that he was basing his impression on, but his favorite channel, Fox News, broadcast a report on Thursday that mixed images of a recent protest in Portland, attended by dozens of protesters, with a viral video clip from 2020 of one protester, Christopher David, being pepper-sprayed in the face by a federal agent that was wrongly described as having been shot in June of this year.

The report focused mainly on one protest outside the facility on Tuesday, attended by dozens of protesters who brought a guillotine as a prop before being doused with chemical agents by federal officers.

“These are paid terrorists,” the president said, once again spreading a baseless conspiracy theory his administration amplified about anti-fascist protesters in 2020.

“These are paid agitators, these are professional. I watched that last night, I’m very good at this stuff. These are paid agitators, they get paid money by radical left groups,” the president claimed. He then went on to suggest that well-printed signs displayed by some protesters proved his theory.

“These are paid agitators and they’re very dangerous for our country and when we go there, if we go to Portland, we’re going to wipe ‘em out. They’re going to be gone. They won’t even stand to fight. They will not stay there. They’ve ruined that city.”

“It’s like living in hell,” the president said, describing an imaginary version of Portland that bears no resemblance to the actual city, in which fences around the federal courthouse that was the scene of mass protests in 2020 have now been removed and the central police headquarters no longer has boarded up windows.

And the National Guard would help with this how? Is that the "war" trump said was going on in Portland?

It’s only a matter of time before going nuclear becomes an option… Nothing wrong with nuking your own territory.

It is time to go after Antifa like Wyatt Earp went after the Red Sash gang. They need to be eliminated from our society. No place in our Country for that kind of lawlessness.

So not the Proud Boys, White Supremacists groups and the KKK? It's time for you to stop believing half of America is your enemy.

I don't see them attacking ICE agents for 100 days straight, do you? If they did, I would expect the full force of the law to come down on them also. There is no doubt that Antifa is the most active terrorist group right now in the US and it must be put down and not allowed to exist or at least continue in its destructive ways.

So repercussions are reserved only for attacking ICE agents (vs any other law enforcement or govt agent)? Or you're allowed to attack a federal agent, but as long as it's not too long (ex. 1 day) then it's ok?

If you're trying to walk a thin line with that argument, you're doing a terrible job.

Did you see ANTIFA attacking ICE agents? No, you didn't. ANTIFA is only a terrorist group in trumplandia.

Trump has you convinced that your fellow Americans are your enemy. That's one of the early signs of a dictator.

Silencing the press. Check

Using the power of the government to go after your political enemies. Check

Labeling the opposing party "the enemy within". Check

And you are an active part of that. Well done Comrade.

Anyone rioting in the streets and opposing our law enforcement is an enemy. Antifa is an enemy of the USA.

When is the last time you saw ANTIFA rioting in the streets? The fact of the matter is the rioting you witnessed during the time of the George Floyd protests was after dark and well after the actual ANTIFA protests had ended. And that was over 5 years ago.

You aren't seeing ANTIFA rioting in the streets. Stop making up BS.

Antifa has attacked the Portland ICE office for over 100 days straight. Get your head out of the sand.

What? Do you have anything other than hot air and a keypad to back that up? There have only been a few dozen protestors at ICE locations in and around Portland and zero evidence they are connected to ICE. In the past 4 months only 12 people have been arrested in Portland in connection with the protests. All but five of them were arrested during the fist month. So a total of 5 people have been arrested over the past three months. According to you and trump that equals a "war-ravaged Portland".

Most of the arrests have led to misdemeanor charges. Three of the people with a misdemeanor federal charge of 'Failure to Obey a Lawful Order' pleaded guilty and received 6 months of probation and fines.

That's not attacking or assaulting ICE agents.

Ok so just like most liberals you take a blind eye to bad behavior on your side. There are many videos put out on the new showing the activity. The police actually showed up over the weekend on bikes and was pushed back by these extremists. Many local officers have been effectively blocked by local government from doing their jobs. Reality is when your kind killed Charlie Kirk, they set in motion actions taken by our government to protect all of its citizens and officers.

One lone gunman killed Charlie Kirk. From the same link....................

Chief Day said the protests, and any associated criminal activity, have been limited in scale.

"The events that are happening down there do not rise to the level of attention that they are receiving," said Portland Police Chief Bob Day on Monday. "We’re in good shape. I don’t see the need for the National Guard at this time; I really believe we’ve got a handle on it."

"The fact of the matter is, and it has been highlighted so many times so well, but I just want to emphasize that this is one city block — Portland is about 145 square miles," Day said. "[This] is not in line with that national narrative, but we’re going to continue to stay the course."

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, about a dozen protesters stood outside the ICE facility with signs opposing the federal government's increased immigration enforcement efforts under the Trump administration........................................

You're the only one turning a blind eye to what's really going on here because facts are not your friend.

Using these minor events over a four month period and the murder of Charlie Kirk to send in the National Guard into Portland over this is nothing more than making excuses for it.

So reporting the facts to you is "turning a blind eye to it"? Only in trumplandia.

As usual, either intentionally or because of a fundamental misunderstanding, you completely missed both the explicitly stated part as well as the implied part of the question.

The folks I mentioned are considered patriots in no small part because of their actions done in protest for what they considered (and many of us would consider) to be wrong. Given how our nation came about, it makes sense that freedom of expression and peaceful protest are protected.

Saying that anyone opposing our law enforcement is an enemy would probably get you slapped by most if not all of the folks who had a hand in breaking away from the British and establishing our nation.

My hope is that these generals and Admirals won't follow illegal commands.

Obviously you haven't been paying attention and your posts prove that you think anyone who doesn't look, act and believe the way you do is your enemy. You are a very sick individual...................

Historically, many dictators have labeled internal groups as "enemies of the people" to consolidate power, suppress dissent, and justify purges and persecution. Some of the most notable examples include Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, and Adolf Hitler.

Soviet Union: Joseph Stalin

The Great Purge (1936–1938): Stalin used the term "enemy of the people" to initiate a brutal political campaign to eliminate anyone perceived as a threat to his authority.

Expansion of targets: The label was initially used against political opponents, but it was expanded to include anyone deemed "anti-Soviet," including intellectuals, artists, peasants, ethnic minorities, and dedicated communists.

Consequences: Being designated an "enemy" was effectively a death sentence or led to imprisonment in the Gulag forced labor camps. Families of the accused also suffered consequences, such as loss of employment and education for their children.

Post-Stalin denunciation: His successor, Nikita Khrushchev, later denounced the use of the term, calling it an abuse of power and acknowledging that many victims were innocent.

China: Mao Zedong

Five Black Categories: During the Cultural Revolution (1966–1976), Mao and the Chinese Communist Party created a system of political classifications. The "Five Black Categories" included landlords, rich farmers, counter-revolutionaries, "bad influencers," and rightists who were subject to severe persecution.

Targeting intellectuals: Mao's campaign also targeted teachers and other intellectuals, who were labeled as the "Stinking Old Ninth" and victimized to enforce the desired cultural changes.

Consequences: These class-based designations led to widespread discrimination, with children of "black category" members facing limitations on employment and marriage.

Nazi Germany: Adolf Hitler

Racial and political "enemies": Nazi ideology defined a number of groups as "enemies of the state" and "outsiders" who threatened the purity of the so-called "Aryan" race.

Groups targeted: These targeted groups included Jews, Roma (Gypsies), communists, socialists, trade unionists, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and people with disabilities.

Consequences: These labels were used to justify horrific acts of persecution, violence, and extermination during the Holocaust.

Cambodia: Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge

Genocidal intent: Under Pol Pot's leadership (1975–1979), the Khmer Rouge regime targeted and killed nearly two million Cambodians in what became known as the Killing Fields.

Defining enemies: The victims included anyone perceived as a threat to the radical communist movement. This included intellectuals, ethnic minorities, former government officials, and anyone with connections to the outside world.

Forced confessions: Many high-ranking perpetrators later confessed to being driven by the paranoid belief that large numbers of people were "enemies" plotting against them.

Recent examples

Though the phrase "enemy of the people" is historically associated with totalitarian regimes, similar rhetorical strategies have been used more recently by authoritarian rulers. For example:

In the 2010s, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez called political dissenters "enemies of the homeland".

In a more modern context, populist leaders and authoritarians around the world have been documented using rhetoric that frames minorities, the media, or political opponents as "enemies" of the people.........................

Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. Those who refuse to teach history plan to repeat it.

He seems to fit the definition/description.
Sadly, such an action would require both his cabinet and the Congress to actually grow vertebrae.

Upshot: don't hold your breath.

They keep lying about what's going on in Portland just so they can deploy the military into yet another blue city.

Republicans post fake image of Oregon protest – using photos of South America
A federal judge had blocked Trump’s request to deploy California national guard to Portland

Before a federal judge blocked Donald Trump from putting members of California’s national guard on the streets of Portland, Oregon, late on Sunday, the state’s Republican party welcomed the planned deployment in celebratory posts on social media.

“President Trump on Sunday deployed 300 California National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon after a judge ruled that the Oregon National Guard could not be deployed to keep federal facilities and personnel in Portland safe,” Oregon Republicans wrote on their official Facebook, Instagram and X accounts.

On all three platforms, the statement was illustrated with an image that seemed designed to support Trump’s false claim that protests against immigration sweeps in Portland are so out of control that the city is “burning to the ground”. On one side of the image, a line of police officers held riot shields; on the other, a crowd of young men held up flares that lit up a night sky filled with red smoke.

On closer inspection, however, it turned out that the image was not a photograph of a real event in Portland, but instead a fabrication created by combining two photographs of scenes that unfolded in South America nearly a decade apart.

The image of the police officers comes from a photo of “South American riot police” that was uploaded to the Getty Images archive in 2008. A clear visual clue that the photograph was not taken in Portland was that the first officer’s shield is marked “Policia”, the Spanish or Portuguese word for police.

The description on the Getty website does not specify the country it was taken in, but another, similar image uploaded a few days later by the same photographer says that it was taken in Ecuador. The initials of an Ecuadorian police unit from that time are visible on a third photograph in the set.

The image of the fiery demonstration that the officers seem to float above in the composite shared by the Oregon Republican party turned out to be another image from the free archive site Pexels. It was taken by a Brazilian photographer in 2017.

When a Guardian reporter pointed out on social media that the image was not a genuine photograph of the generally small and tame protests outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Portland, the Oregon Republican Party’s X account replied: “We’re not reporters, just bad memers.”

Yeah, they might want to make sure the bullet proof vests don't say "policía" on them the next time they want to lie to the American people.

Trump says Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson 'should be in jail'

The president's Truth Social post comes a day after federalized National Guard troops arrived in Illinois.

President Donald Trump said in a post to Truth Social on Wednesday that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker "should be in jail" in an escalation of his conflict with the two Democratic officials.

"Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers!" he said in the post. "Governor Pritzker also!"

The president's post comes a day after Texas National Guard troops arrived in Illinois, despite the Democrats' fierce opposition. Trump has threatened for weeks to send troops to Chicago as part of a crime-fighting and immigration effort, and Democrats have slammed his push as overreach and a political stunt.

Reached for comment, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said that "JB Pritzker and Brandon Johnson have blood on their hands" and accused them of having "stood idly by while innocent Americans fall victim to violent crime time and time again."

She argued that "instead of taking action to stop the crime, these Trump-Deranged buffoons would rather allow the violence to continue and attack the President for wanting to help make their city safe again."

The statement did not address NBC News' questions about what crimes the president believes Johnson and Pritzker and whether the White House planned to try to have federal agents arrest them.

Pritzker responded to the president in a post to X, saying, “I will not back down.”

“Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power,” he said in the post. “What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?”

Reached for comment, Johnson said that "this is not the first time Trump has tried to have a Black man unjustly arrested.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” he added.

On Monday, Illinois sued in an attempt to prevent the White House from deploying federalized troops to Chicago. A judge scheduled a hearing on the case for Thursday and declined to sign a temporary restraining order, which would have blocked the administration as the case proceeds in court.

The president’s comments come as protests across Immigration and Customs Enforcement have rippled across the country as the administration ramped up efforts to detain and deport migrants.

The White House has previously argued that deploying the National Guard is necessary to "protect federal assets and personnel" and prevent "attacks on law enforcement."

Trump first deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles, over Gov. Gavin Newsom's objections, after protests broke out in response to immigration raids. The president then ordered the National Guard to the streets of D.C., painting it as an effort to fight crime.

The administration is also trying to send federalized National Guard troops from California to Portland, Oregon, but a judge granted a temporary restraining order this week to block the move as the case is considered in court. A Pentagon spokesperson had said that the troops would have worked to "support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal personnel performing official duties, including the enforcement of federal law, and to protect federal property."

In Chicago, a frequent target of the president, Johnson signed an executive order on Monday in an effort to block immigration agents from using city property during their operations in Chicago.

"We will not tolerate ICE agents violating our residents’ constitutional rights nor will we allow the federal government to disregard our local authority," Johnson said in a press release marking the so-called "ICE Free Zone" executive order.

Pritzker has emerged as a leading critic of the Trump administration as his state faces the president's ire. Trump has compared Chicago to a "war zone," and Pritzker said Sunday in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" that "they’re just making this up."

"Then what do they do? They fire tear gas and smoke grenades, and they make it look like it’s a war zone," Pritzker said on Sunday, appearing to refer to federal agents. "And they, you know, get people on the ground are, frankly, incited to want to do something about it, appropriately."

In recent days, Pritzker also said that he believed that Trump should be removed from office.

“There is something genuinely wrong with this man, and the 25th Amendment ought to be invoked,” he said, referring to a process for removing the president from office.

On Tuesday, Pritzker was asked during an event whether he believed he could be arrested.

"I’m asking any of you to come visit me in the gulag in El Salvador," Pritzker joked, referring to the prison where the Trump administration has deported some immigrants.

House Speaker Mike Johnson did not say whether he believed Mayor Johnson and Pritzker should be jailed when asked by NBC News about Trump's post.

"Should they be in prison? Should the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois be in prison?" Johnson responded. "I'm not the attorney general. I'm the Speaker of the House, and I'm trying to manage the chaos here. I'm not following the day-to-day on that."

Trump has repeatedly threatened legal action against some of his political opponents, including former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Last month, he urged Attorney General Pam Bondi in a post to Truth Social to not "delay any longer," slamming his political opponents and writing, "JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!"

Comey was indicted days later and is set to be arraigned on Wednesday.

How dare you pose legal challenges to the great and powerful Oz!

But don't mention these are the ramblings of a dictator or anything that happens afterwords will be your fault. Not the fault of the man who spews the words of a dictator.

As sad as it is to say, nothing really shocks me anymore. And from the lack of responses on this board many just don't give a damn about what's really going on anymore. And in some cases actually promote it.

You don't even believe videos when they're shown to you. Would you like to see them shoot him in the face with a non lethal round? They are standing on the roof and he is standing on the ground. He is not being violent. He is not impeding them from doing anything.

At least you were willing to admit that you don't care about the law or anything else as long as they stop people from protesting. Even peacefully. Thanks for that. You continue to keep penciling in who you really are and why we need to protect America from your kind.

When ICE sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people. naughtydevil
