President Trump blamed the late Rob Reiner's death Monday on the director's political views, saying he died from a "mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."

Why it matters: The president and MAGA allies condemned anyone who celebrated conservative activist Charlie Kirk's death earlier this year, slamming them for encouraging political violence against ideological opponents.

What he said: In a Monday morning post on Truth Social, Trump cast Reiner" as "a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star."

Reiner, Trump said, "passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS."

"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness ... perhaps like never before."

"May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

Catch up quick: Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead this weekend, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass confirmed in a Sunday evening post on X.

The LAPD is investigating the deaths at Reiner's home as a homicide and has the couple's son, Nick Reiner, in custody, according to police documents.

Rob Reiner directed American classics such as "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally" and "Stand by Me."

Zoom in: "This is a devastating loss for our city and our country," Bass said.

"Rob Reiner's contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice."

"An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others."

Between the lines: Reiner was a persistent Trump critic, once calling him "mentally unfit" and "the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States."

He also faulted the mainstream media for not holding the president "accountable," asserting that "major outlets" serve as "propaganda for an American president."

The intrigue: Trump's post came hours after conservative figures began to compare reactions to the Reiners' deaths to Kirk's murder in September, originally insisting that the right wouldn't cheer someone's homicide.

"You won't see people on the right celebrating the horrific murder of Rob Reiner and his wife," Turning Point USA activist Jack Posobiec posted on X Sunday evening.

"Compare to the Left's reaction to Charlie Kirk's murder."

Zoom out: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Trump ally who's been increasingly breaking with the president in the past few months, condemned the president's reaction on X on Monday.

"Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak. This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies."

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) also slammed the president in a X post on Monday, saying that "regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they're afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it."

The White House did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on Massie's statement.

https://www.axios.com/2025/12/15/trump-rob-reiner-death-tds-charlie-kirk

As if we needed it, even more evidence of what a human piece of trash trump is. Or as some call it, just another day at The White House. Minus the East Wing of course.

We started getting All in the Family re-runs this fall on one of our oldies stations. They show two disclaimers even before the iconic opening theme song, lol, lest people get triggered.

Many people fail to understand that the Archie Bunker and Mike Stivic characters were meant to inspire healthy debate, and to poke fun at both the right and left. Same with the George Jefferson character.
Rob Reiner directed some great movies, too, but he’ll always be Meathead, to those of a certain age.

As for Trump, I’m not shocked he’d say something so classless. That’s how he operates: with zero class.

I didn't like the comment but it wasn't near a celebration. I didn't like the comments Reiner has made over the years but I liked his results. He directed some fine movies, so I can overlook his comments.

Talk is cheap, results speak. The President may say some irritating things, but he delivers results. That's all I care about.

I know most of the 10 of you disagree but I am not going to waste my time talking about it.

Yes he delivers results like hate, fear, divisiveness, carpeting the news with violent rhetoric, assaulting us citizens, pardoning thousands of criminals and major drug dealers, disillusionment, war crimes, rising deaths due to infectious diseases, destruction of government property, embarrassment on the world stage, rising costs, pummeling small businesses out of business with tariffs, economic uncertainty, threatening freedom of speech, making millions / billions for him and his family with political influence...... if thats what you care about those are his results.

Minimizing these commenst about someone who was just murdered is all you have left in your bag of tricks. Disgusting.

Did he make those comments right after trump was murdered? Sometimes I don't think you even hear yourself. You know better and were raised better than this.

Irritating things? Is that what you call talking this way about someone who was just murdered? Really? You are dismissing the actual results he delivers on a daily basis. Hate and division within our own country. And there's the persistent lies he tells on a daily basis. But as you said, you only care about the results you care about. Because no matter what a POS human being he is getting what you want is all you care about.

So, you're saying "they" can't time travel and turn back the clock... and they won't be able to next time either??

It's interesting - because I agree with you. Trump does act like an entitled petulant child.

However Memphis's post was more about supporting Trump's "right" to say something awful. The emphisis wasn't on the Fox presenter criticizing the POTUS, it was on a comedian's opinion that we all have a first amendment right to say awful things.... Memphis was enabling and justifying Trump's inapropriate comments.

Maybe I'm missing something. Trump absolutely has the right to say what he said. We (citizens) should be able to expect a little more decorum from our elected officials (in general, let alone President).

To his credit (sorta), Trump has never hid this particular part of his style. It's not like he presented himself as a polished squeaky clean person and then did a 180. This embarrassing part of his brand of leadership was part of his campaign and that's what people voted for (or in the case of democrats, didn't feel the need to vote against).

Some people are soooo helplessly blinded they can't see a fact if it hits him in the head. I hate doing this, and won't try to speak for Memphis, but the last thing he was doing was "enabling and justifying Trump's inapropriate comments.".

And the comedian... and the host... were 100% endorsing everyone's right to call out POTUS when he makes stupid comments. That's literally what the entire segment was about.

Again, to FOX's credit -- that's what nearly all of their hosts have done. The basic message being that taking sides isn't worth being an a$$hole. This full segment (not just the clip above) had Will Cain criticizing anyone that feels the need to attach disclaimers to sympathy messages. Schneider actually compares Riener to Charlie Kirk from a standpoint that in America we should appreciate both people's right to freely speak their message.

On DT -- it's just Memphis being a Nazi. smh

The only comparison I see to Charlie Kirk and Rob Reiner's murders is both were committed by leftist nutjobs.

I hated to hear the news that Rob Reiner had been killed. I disagreed with his political views. But respected his right to have those same views. Regrettably those views in his life came back to bite him in the end with his own flesh and blood son. Your children are reflections of you and how you raised them.

You and I have slightly different expectations of the president of the United States of America. Because somebody has a right to do something doesn't mean that it's not a low class, scumbag, POS thing to do or say.... And claiming he has a right to say those things what he said is absolutely enabling and justifying him continuing to be a POS.

We do not. I voted against him, partly for this very reason.

My point was that, IMO, people should absolutely hear what he has to say and then understand what he is (and isn't) all about. As someone that doesn't care for him and his ilk, I'm perfectly fine with him demonstrating how he has no class.

The trouble is that it then falls to the voters to show how they feel.

I agree with you. Freedom of speech is something we all have and that includes trump. And while I agree with you the biggest problem with that being the case is he has more influence with a single voice than anyone else in America. His hatred and disgusting behavior spreads like an epidemic. Many years ago we had a major discussion about "political correctness" on this very board. My opinion at the time and as I believe has been borne out by the evidence to to be true, is that the term "political correctness" was nothing more than a guise to make civil conversations and debate into nothing more than chaos and nastiness.

That has been shown to be true and since that has been the method they tend to use I in turn fight fire with fire. Being nasty takes no talent. It takes no actual thought process nor does it further discussion or compromise. It's totally counterproductive to try and engage in civil dialogue with people who do nothing but rant nastiness. It didn't use to be that way here. But as I figured would be the case, it ended up that way as it has everywhere else. It's a cutthroat, mindless approach to further division in this country. When you call the media and those who disagree with you "the enemy of the people" you are purposefully making Americans each others enemies.

That's the thing about rights. With great rights come great responsibility. We are now witnessing a time in our society where we still have most of these rights while we have a president that shows zero responsibility when exercising those rights. And it has become down right dangerous because of that.
