After listening to Haslam's press conference.

I came unglued. I have been a loyal fan. Have always tried to look on the bright side and be optimistic.

I know Haslam wants to win and is willing to spend. But he is delusional. He is oblivious to the mistakes he has made.

I see no reason to believe that he will do otherwise. He will repeat his errors.

He has no clue how to run an NFL franchise. He got his stadium and he has increased the worth of the franchise.

He is no different than he was when he bought the team. He refuses to accept that he is wrong.

I feel beaten down by the Browns.

Note to Barry. Aim higher even if you miss.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I would have thought they'd want to interview Harbaugh..... Still time I guess.

This could be a repeat of being so thorough and blindly scheduling interviews for appearances of due diligence that we miss out on a great selection.

Not everyone you want to interview wants to interview with you. There is still time. My best guest is that there will be no meeting and if there is it will be a very short meeting based on Harbaugh's willingness to be courteous.

Just listened to Florio rank all the coaching opportunities on a scale of 1-10 and gave the Cleveland job a 1.5 mostly owing to the presence of slippin' Jimmy Haslam. That and there is no clearly identifiable realistic solution to the QB position for next year and who you do have to work with is kind of a nightmare scenario. He's not wrong. I think anyone of any real merit will hesitate. My guess is we're going to have to go with a coordinator who just isn't on many lists, a washout like McCarthy or an age out. But Harbaugh is not coming here, even with "an offer he couldn't refuse". Schwartz with Rees makes the most sense. It's the stability/ continuity choice. It's also the easiest to pull the plug on next year if it goes t!ts up. But it doesn't sound like there's much enthusiasm, like they're doing it because everyone is asking them about Schwartz and Rees.

Pick Schwarz & Rees, trade down & pick up another #1 next year, do the OL & WR rebuild and revisit the whole QB thing again next year when hopefully the pool is deeper. If you do clean house next year, you've got the lure of 2 #1's and fresh slate without the DW overhang.

I'm just curious as to why you would mention Rees in that scenario. It seems we're all pretty much in agreement that Schwartz runs the D and the D is fine. So the problem I see as to the rerasoning for firing Stefanski was a poor performance and play calling on the O side of the ball.

Rees was the play caller.

Well, the absolute dumbest thing we could do is to hire Prime as the Head Coach.... so, that's my bet for what we end up doing.

Need to hire Jim Schwartz. The quickest turn around is to keep the defense strong and improve the offense. This offense does not need to be top 10 for a successful 2026 season. If it improved from 32 to 16 the win lose record would improve dramatically. This team would not be a super bowl team in 2026 but just a middle of the pack offense with this defense and we would have a 10-win team. Emphasis on Oline and another playmaker or two on offense. I think the Oline cannot be fixed in 1 year but that does mean it cannot improve in 1 year.

It would be a legendary hire. Would that mean our DBs would no longer be required to tackle?

Good lord.... I don't even want to think about this scenario. Yes it would be a very Browns and therefore stupid thing to do.

In the end we may well be forced to take someone who was turned down by the others or not considered by others.

Schwartz may be the best alternative because he can hold the defense together.

Schwartz could put together a staff. He is well respected and has a million connections.

I do not see anyway the Browns land Harbaugh. Unless he has a high opinion of Shedeur.

Where is the quarterback? I mean for real.

What new head coach would want to hear plans about 2027? Plans for quarterbacks in that draft are like wishes from the tooth fairy.

Right now I do believe promoting JS to HC would be the best way to go. We can keep the D as it is and have Tommy Rees stay as OC. JS has the players respect and the D played hard for him right to the end. We do need a new ST coach. JMO but who knows how they thinking. For what it’s worth Simpson has declared for the draft.

Given the people involved with the Browns in making this decision.

Then factoring in the state of the roster and the people interviewed.

I cannot say I am optimistic about the results.

My perspective is simplistic. I want to win and win now. I am so sick of all the trash about who we can get as a quarterback in future drafts.

That is hollow. May as well consult a gypsy and a crystal ball.

We can upgrade the offense some next year.

That leaves all the eggs in the Shedeur basket. I am not wearing rose colored glasses. We do not know what Shedeur is.

You sure as hell cannot take it to the bank that he is a sure thing.

So we start next season fresh except it is the same old story. Who is the quarterback going to be?

I don't care who the head coach is. He is not bringing a talisman that can magically create a quarterback.

Bone we may be able to draft a QB in a later round possibly the 3rd. Maybe Drew Allar will be there or one of the others that was originally supposed to be a 1st round pick. I know a pick like hat doesn't reek with optimism, but it may be a guy we could develop and at least it would be a guy with the right size and arm strength. He could be #3 on the depth chart replacing DG. I don't know how Shedeur will turn out I'm certainly pulling for him, but I wouldn't bet the house on that he will solve our perennial QB issue.

The odds are firmly stacked against Shadeur for sure. Odds are he's close to a poor version of Jamies Winston than a good Alex Smith (not saying he plays like either one of them style wise).

But it seems you either give up the farm to get one of 2 QBs this year... Or you wait till next year. The team has too many holes to fill you be giving up picks and then ruining your rookie qb with little to no OL or WR help. And while it's a long shot for sanders too be a FQB, he's grown a bit in difficult circumstances and I think he can win games with an OL and a genuine NFL #1 we to throw to alongside Fanin.

I get the frustration but we're between a rock and a hard place.

I don't want any more miid to late round QBs right now. We have 2 guys who need reps .... so we either draft a guy high in the 1st, or pass.

You know how the odds drop as each pick is made.

Shedeur has to be on a level of say Brock Purdy. If not we cannot say when we will find a quarterback.

We are back to making sacrifices to false gods.

Hell there is no guarantee with the first pick in the draft.

There is no way to sugar coat where the Browns are unfortunately.

One of my favorites was when the Browns had to settle for their fourth choice, Mike Pettine, and shortly before his introductory press conference a social media post leaked from his ~12 year old daughter:

"My dad got a job as HC in the NFL! It's the Browns, but it's still cool." lol

I didn't see this part earlier. Wow.

IMO, I feel like this interaction told me a little bit more than just the mindset behind the hiring of the next head coach.

I remember that. Between the "we almost always almost win", "..but it's still cool", and the "GPODAWUND" sign I feel like the franchise since 99 has solidified it's place as the George Costanza of professional sports teams.

Don't forget Weeden getting caught under the flag in his inaugural game.

I think that is my favorite all time Browns moment.

Did that inspire less confidence than when you knew this one was about to be your QB1?

If it's not Schwartz - and I doubt it is going to be based on the Haslam presser - then Vance Joseph ... DC in Denver might be an intriguing and solid choice. He had a short 5-11 - 6-10 stint at Denver HC back in 2016/17. Has been under Sean Payton the last 3 years. Seems like the sort of HC candidate that might have learned from his first go around, had a phenomenal mentor for the last 3 years and now ready to reach his coaching potential. Not to mention his defenses have been really good.

If the Browns are interviewing Rees - they must be high on him. Maybe he can stay as the OC, Vance as the HC? In that scenario I am not sure if Schwartz stays or goes, but as much as I do like him, HC is a more important position to fill. Yes - I'd love Harbaugh ... but that just aint happening. Haslam and this roster - and Berry - all negatives meaning the Browns have to choose from the tier 3 or 4 level guys and hope to get it right. I also think there is a chance that the Jags beat the Bills and fire McDermott -- and that would be destination #1 for Harbaugh.
