I'm just curious as to why you would mention Rees in that scenario. It seems we're all pretty much in agreement that Schwartz runs the D and the D is fine. So the problem I see as to the rerasoning for firing Stefanski was a poor performance and play calling on the O side of the ball.
Rees was the play caller.
It's complicated.
I think bad plays are more about execution problems over the actual call.
Pre-snap problems reflect more on the HC and lack of accountability and discipline.
How much of the O was still Stefanski led with Rees still working a slightly massaged version of that O?
I am not sticking up for Rees as much as I wouldn't summarily dismiss him because he was tied to Kevin. He has a pretty good reputation in many circles. Maybe he is a college guy, I don't know but I don't want to lose him just yet. We have let some pretty good coaches walk over the years. I wouldn't want to see another without a better look.

without a QB we basically are below the other teams with openings right now. It's not a good cycle to be looking for a coach because the QB class is so thin.
Unless we could assure a Malik Willis deal is in place, nobody is going to be wanting to jump at the chance to coach our current roster IMO

Harbaugh would want full control regardless of how strong his connections to Cleveland are. That’d be just the first hurdle this organization would have to jump and well…that ain’t gonna happen.

Tommy Rees did not start calling plays until 2nd half of the season.
The Browns should have won about 3 more games. Special teams cost the Browns the Jets and Bengals game. Who hired Bubba Ventrone? Whose decision was it to go for 2 vs the Raiders when that made no sense at all? Instead of tying the game last the Browns lost due to that decision. I am sure that those kind of decisions played a part in this. Myles Garrett sure did not give Stefanski a vote of confidence when asked about his firing late last week. That was very telling. I am sure Myles will play a part in wh the Browns hire next. His demand last off season probably gave him some power and leverage behind the scenes he did not have before.

I think you're spot on. I feel like anything less than a clear/blatant endorsement of the coach amounts to those players sending a message.

Regarding MG and Ward ... Absolutely they dissed Stefanski and I don't think there is any other way to read that other than they were not fans of KS by the end of this season. They want to run and clearly didn't feel like KS was putting them in the best position to do that regardless of the talent on offense.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I am glad you note a distinction of sorts between the KS=called O and the Brees successor O. Those who had a yearning to play SS so that "we can see what we have" had their dreams fulfilled gloriously. We are now all certain, floor and ceiling, about SS as a QB. Think about how we saw better number with Brees stats improving on KS games. Hope that someone looks over the games called for Gabriel that were pathetic. I believe that he could well have looked better with the Brees play mix. If the need is to be certain about what we have in the room, this should be part of the metric. SS was able to make serious mistakes and start more games. We also have apples and oranges in terms of opponents faced; Gabriel faced tougher D in his games. I feel KS choked off the O weekly. I do not want to build around SS until he fixes some issues.

For me, the important part is it looked like he WAS beginning to fix some issues.
We can love him or hate him however we want, but the reality is that he's going to be at or near the front of a QB competition that will kick off next TC. Gabriel will be someone he's competing against, and I imagine we'll bring in one or two FAs... but I wouldn't hold your breath in terms of who we can afford this off-season.

it's hard to win games with no 1rst round picks on offense, no legit QB, no offensive line, and no real WRs. That's on the GM not the HC.

I agree. Even paying the most won't motivate Harbaugh. I would assume he already has a pretty sizable bag. His motivation is to win championships. He will most likely go to the team he feels has the best chance today of being able to do that.
Of course I don't know for sure, but I don't think he wants a team without a proven QB as well as a large number of 1st and 2nd year players to mold. Not to mention a front office structure he probably doesn't like.
I'd think the chances of signing him are around 5% tops.

That is a whole different story. Had I been in charge, I would have kept Kevin and released Berry. However I understand why it went down as it did. Hiring a new GM with a coach already in place is hard to do. Remember, we already did that. Was Berry our 1st choice, or did others turn down the position because they wanted say on who would be the coach?
Anyway, Rees has a good rep and I fall back on was that the Rees O or just some massaged version of Kevins?

Just reading everything, we all seem to be more or less in agreement. We just get there in different ways that aren't that far apart.
JMO here, but we will work on drafting some O linemen and a receiver or two, go in to next season, win 5-7 games, then Myles will want out and we will grant his wish.
We will get a boatload of picks and do what it takes to get a QB next year. At that point we will have a bunch of players with a year or two under their belt to support the rookie QB, at which point we should be able to make some progress.

I sure wouldn’t bet on it happening but…should you land a guy like Harbaugh, there then becomes a pool of players willing to come play for him, thus (possibly) filling holes previously thought hard to fill except through multiple drafts or FA periods. Things could turn rather quickly.
You gotta make an offer that makes his eyebrows raise at least…
