I get what you're saying. First and foremost Harbaugh has decided to limit his list to a few teams he will even interview with and we don't know if the Browns will even be one of them. I know if I were in his position the Browns wouldn't be near the top of my list.
And secondly you have to figure out how badly you want a guy. If you make the decision you want him badly enough you have to pay what the market will bear for his services. That's why athletes make so much money. Very few athletes are at the elite level. When they are people pay them a fortune for their talent. Supply and demand.
Harbaugh is going to get big money and a lot of control somewhere. The only question left is where.
As it pertains to the money. I don't think there's a chance in hell Harbaugh will come here in the first place. But for the sake of argument if he did, the money means nothing. Coaches salaries do not count against the salary cap so it in no way hampers the ability to sign FA's once they get the watson debacle off their back.
Let's face it, Halslam has never had a problem firing HC's who still have time on their contracts. At one point he was paying three HC's at the same time. Two fired HC's and the current HC by firing the previous two so quickly........................
“I’ll say one other thing: These are expensive moves,” the owner said. “We’re not only just saying it; we’re talking with our pocketbook. These are not cheap moves to make. I’m not saying that should be the guiding factor, but we are doing everything we can to get this right.”
In what has become an almost annual tradition, the Browns will pay a head coach not to work for them next season. In fact, they will pay two of them, as Pat Shurmur still had two years remaining on his deal when he was sacked at the end of the last season.
