Carson Schwesinger earns AP Defensive Rookie of the Year
https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/carson-schwesinger-earns-ap-defensive-rookie-of-the-year

Carson Schwesinger earned the highest accolade to represent his dominant rookie season in the NFL.

Schwesinger was voted Thursday the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year at the NFL Honors. He is the second Browns rookie in team history to win the award, joining LB Chip Banks who was voted the winner in 1982.

"Carson, he came in and all he said, and all he lived, is that he was going to earn it," linebackers coach Jason Tarver said. "And that's the biggest thing that he did. He just came in and worked. His ability to, no matter what, run to the ball and get it on the ground and play with that great effort is what has earned him all these opportunities and Defensive Rookie of the Year. So really proud of how he approaches each and every day, trying to be his best. And further than that, it goes to every moment of the meeting, every play, his whole mindset is, 'I'm going to do this as good as I can. Make the play, finish in the pile, help my teammates up, and then go do it again.'"

His rise from a preferred walk-on at UCLA in 2021 to being drafted as the 33rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft was a feat alone, demonstrating his work ethic and skillset as a linebacker. Schwesinger worked on the scout team before he earned a scholarship in his sophomore season and eventually became the full-time starter in his redshirt junior season – a successful season that caught the attention of NFL scouts, including the Browns.

What an amazing year for Carson.

He was a tackling machine. I cannot recall a better rookie season by a player at linebacker.

What really stood out IMO was his instincts to read the play. He was always moving in a straight line to the ball.

He is going to have a great career as a Cleveland Brown.

JOK is one of my favorite players of all time.

He seems like such a cool dude. When I have seen him interviewed. He comes off as such a sincere person.

I sure hope he comes back. I hope he fully recovers. Nerve damage is so tricky. I dislocated my shoulder severely.

It took a full year to recover. The nerve damage was very slow to come back.

Carson and JOK would be a treat to watch.

And with Emerson coming back and an addition here or there our D can be even better. If we make the right moves on O we can be legit contender's next season.

We were the worst offense last year.

If we could end up in the mid-level of scoring. We would have to have a better record.

It all depends on how much better the offense can get.

It is no secret what needs to happen. The OL has to be better. The receivers as a group must improve.

And the obvious consistency from the QB position.

Schwartz is a good DC. I hope he stays. But this defense will continue to be good with or without him.

I wonder what Schedeur is doing now? Is he training himself? Is he getting advice? Is he doing all he can do to reach his own goals?

He flashed with some good plays. Can he eliminate the bad and be more consistent with the good?

I cannot even begin to tell you all how much I hated this pick when it happened. This goes far beyond just eating crow... it's crazy to me how such an oddball pick translated into such a dominant rookie performance. On top of that, injuries kinda derailed the end of his season. He was on pace to break the NFL rookie tackling record.

Emerson is an unrestricted free agent.

Congrats to Schwesinger. Nice speech last night as his mom get emotional in the audience.
