Robert Duvall IMO one of America's great actors has passed away.
Augustus McCrae no doubt one of my favorite movie characters of all time.
He was such a great actor no matter the role.
I probably have seen damn near every movie he was in. The Great Santini, Tender Mercies, Open Range, The Apostle.
Amazing career. RIP Mr. Robert Duvall. You left a legacy on film.

RIP, Robert Duvall, he was superb in Lonesome Dove. One of the best westerns ever.

Apocalypse Now, MASH, THX,1138, and so, so, so many others.
What a great actor.

Duvall was always good no matter the role.
However, once in awhile everything lines up and magic happens in a movie.
Lonesome Dove was first off a great Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
A two hour movie was not the right format to tell the story. It had to be a mini-series. It needed that extra time to tell it right.
The dialogue came right from the book.
Then Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall were born to play those characters.
The rest of the cast was amazing as well.
There are very few movies I can watch more than once. Lonesome Dove I have seen many times. Even with that I watch favorite clips from the movie often.
I read the three books by Larry McMurtry. It is really about male friendship over a lifetime.

Robert Duvall has been a part of my on screen viewing throughout my entire life. He could adapt to any role. He made the very most out of every scene he ever played in. There's nothing more I can think of you can ask out of a person carrying on their profession.
RIP Robert Duvall.

Duvall had a way of capturing mannerisms and behavior that make us human.
An example is the way he reacted when Jake Spoon was hung.
I will always be a fan of his.

Very sad.. Very.. I liked so many of his roles... The Godfather 1&2 was his best of course. But he was in so many... Perhaps his worse role was Jack Reacher and yet, he was still amazing in it.
I think for me, the best role he played was in Second Hand Lions.. I was surprised when that movie didn't do as well as others.
RIP Robert

A under rated movie was "Wrestling Earnest Hemingway."
Duvall and Richard Harris played two old men who became friends.
Duvall was a Cuban barber and Harris a retired navy guy both living in Florida.

Since his passing many in the movie business have come forward and given tributes.
I have seen him interviewed many times. The one role that was hard on him was The Great Santini.
He came from a strict military father and the role haunted him. He was so good as the character Bull Meechum.
He loved "Tango" the dance and married a gal who is a terrific tango dancer. He wrote and directed the movie Assassination Tango and it was during the filming he met his future wife.
He said it took him ten days to read Lonesome Dove and 16 weeks to film it. And that was the best time in his life and his favorite role.
He will always remain in my eyes as the character Augustus McCrae.
