There isn't a Julio Jones in this draft unfortunately -- and if there was there is every chance we'd take him if he was on the board. But it does show you that teams can and do give up a lot when they covet a player.

Which was pretty much my point. I've often said that the top tier of teams have more leeway in the draft. They may only be a player or two away from what they think they need to win it all. As you can see the Falcons were drafting 27th overall. One of the better teams at the time. In their case I think they felt they were only a premiere WR from getting there so to them it was worth the price. To a team needing an influx of talent at more positions the chance to address that makes it a great deal as well. Everyone comes out thinking it's a win/win. That's pretty much how all of these trades are made. Each team feels it benefits their particular situation best.

The issue with trying to use this trade as an example is that yes, it's quite a hall for the #6 pick. But when the best pick in this years draft you get in return is 27th and a second round pick it really isn't helping you pick from the top tier of OT's. On the other hand it gives you an extra first round pick for next year in what looks like a QB heavy class. Either way I would take that trade all day for the #6 pick.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

In this draft you are more likely to see something like

Rams #6 and #39 and 2027 5th
Browns #13 and 2027 first

I don't disagree with what you're saying. My doubts are whether Berry has a long enough leash to push major draft capital back another year. He had a phenomenal draft last year, but we are stacking up losing seasons. Hard to imagine a start like last year and Berry keeping his job (we've run out of other people to fire).
