During the time you are spending with friends and family, watching sports and having cook outs, please remember and commemorate what this day is really for. It is to honor those who have fallen in service and defense of this nation. No matter your opinions on certain wars our nation has chosen to fight, our service members did not choose to start any wars. They simply chose to serve their country. They gave their life, their all, leaving friends and family behind who had to deal with the loss of their loved ones. It is the ultimate sacrifice any person can be willing to give. God Bless them all and may their memories and our gratfulness for their service be ever constant in our minds..............
In Flanders Fields
By John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
