I opened the door on this topic in a different thread. Do you believe it is time for 25 now? I believe it has been taken up congressionally. Trying to see what "we, the people" feel about it. Whether pro or con, justify your judgment, please.

I'm not going to dig into the weeds on this topic as it applies to "my opinion". What I will do is point out the absurdity of it ever coming to fruition.

First it would take the vice president and a majority of a presidents own cabinet to initiate the 25th amendment. They are the only ones with the power to do so. They would have to do so by giving the speaker of the house a written document stating the president is unable to fulfill his duties. Everyone knows that isn't going to happen.

The president can then submit a counter document. We all know trump would not just leave without submitting that document at the very least. That in turn would give the the Vice President and the Cabinet 4 days to again submit a second document for removal.

Once that process is complete congress must then convene within 48 hours and resolve the dispute. To permanently remove the President and keep the Vice President in charge, a two-thirds supermajority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate is required. We also know that would never happen.

Congress can "talk about" the 25th amendment all they want. The fact is it's nothing more than a political talking point because congress lacks the power to invoke the 25th amendment without the vice president and majority of the cabinet submitting in be enacted first.

Even then probably not. We just had that with the last President.

They did run Grandpa Joe and he drooled all over himself during that “debate”.

They ran him until they didn't. Was he on the ballot in 2024 and I missed it?

I'll put this as plainly as I can.

Take any 'freelance' excerpt of a recent Trump rally speech, (You know- when he does 'The Weave') ...and transport that excerpt into the latest annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner/Midsummer Cookout.

If the family heard Grampy speak as he now does, this is what would happen: They all see him at the gathering, and hear him say what he says. Next day, the adult kids would get on a ZOOM group chat, regarding Pops.

1. "I'll take his car keys and drive him to his doctor appointments. I live closest. I can get sitters for the kids-"
2. "I'll talk to the family lawyers about durable power of attorney. We'll figure it out-"
3. "I'll help 'Mom' with his checkbook. He's spending hundreds/month at Home Depot on 3-D appliques and goldtone Krylon. Have you seen the living room since he retired?"
4. "I'll let the neighbors know that he's still loved, but the family is now in charge-"

That's what a loving, supportive family does- when they care about their Head of Household.

Trump's D.C. Family:

1. Presidential cabinet. The ones closest to him. The ones entrusted with the responsibility of protecting him.
2. Supreme Court. They are the ones entrusted with the responsibility to keep him on the straight and narrow- and not afoul of The Law.
3. Senate/HOR. They keep Dad from spending the family's money on foolish pursuits that don't benefit the 300M members under his 'care/attention.'
4. Presidential press corp/allies who break the news to the rest of the >300M family members.

IMHO, this man is absolutely alone. He sits upon the most influential seat of power history has ever known, isolated from the realities of his decisions by a cadre of venal, self-serving 'psychophants,' looking to take his place in the wake of the populist movement he capitalized upon, but did nothing to create. He has no responsible 'fam' around him to reign in his worst impulses, or steer him into directions that don't bring harm to our own best interests.

Can you say, "House of Cards?"

Yes.

25 is appropriate, in this case.
No less than it was with the last 2 years of POTUS 46. Dems did America no favors with the way they handled the Biden late-term legacy/candidacy.

It's a problem we must solve immediately, if we are to see America celebrate 275- and beyond.
We can't survive like this. We just can't.

.02,
clem.

ADDENDUM:

Term limits for all elected posts (Legislative Branch of the Constitutuion).
Term limits for all appointed posts (Judicial Branch of the Constitution).
...to coincide with existing term limits for the Executive Branch.

Details to be sorted out in debate...
...but Dear God, please let us extricate ourselves from this dysfunctional gerontocracy, and trust The Kids We Raised to sort out the future.

We've done enough for/to our time.
It's time to step aside.
