I'm ignorant to the subject, but is it too difficult to grow real turf inside a stadium? It's not really "difficult" per se; we've come a long way in simplifying the process. Having an indoor ecosystem the size of a football field definitely has plenty of challenges beyond run-of-the-mill landscaping though. It also requires a very expensive infrastructure to set the stage for what turns into a huge horticulture project. Beyond the football, you'll need an elaborate plan to protect the grass when hosting other events... which was one of the big selling points of building a dome in the first place.

"the new stadium will reportedly be able to accommodate grass, just as several NFL venues did for the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup. That means the Browns could have the option to swap out the turf for grass should the pressure from players be too heavy to ignore."
No it is not hard to grow grass in a dome. They put the field on rollers and can get the sunlight needed both from the roof design and the ability to roll the field out.
It is a matter of "want to" and to a degree cost. The data is clear grass prevents injury. The players want grass for a reason.

We don't need to debate this. The field will be turf field. I either read or heard we just lost our two top guys from the groundskeeping dept. because they were hired away. They saw the handwriting on the wall.
As you stated, maintaining a natural turf field indoors creates problems in both cost and maintaining quality.

Monken says Gabriel will get more reps because he has earned it.
What that says is DW and SS have not separated from Gabriel.
Gabriel was drafted in the third round because his college tape showed a guy who could execute an offense. He did it under numerous systems.
He does not have ideal size. He has limitations but arm strength is not a limitation with Gabriel.
If Gabriel were to somehow win the starters job. It would be crystal clear that the Browns are all systems go in the 27 draft to find a quarterback.
We may not have a true starting quarterback on the team.

We may not have a true starting QB on this team but DG is looking like he might be the best option. It shows what a mess our QB room is in.

I really want to be optimistic.
I hate going into the beginning of a season and already feel defeated.
I know the roster has some talent. I believe in the last two drafts.
But straight up if Dart and Schuck become big time starters Berry is a failure.
Unless Sanders or Gabriel become a franchise quarterback.

I'm ignorant to the subject, but is it too difficult to grow real turf inside a stadium? Its only a matter of money. With good lighting and irrigation it would be like a gigantic grow lab with end zones. But that would be a lot of money. And I would venture to say it would limit the facility's ability to host events other than Browns Football. So let's just say it would take a mountain of cash. I will always believe that a grass surface is superior. My little podunk university has a facilities department that is weighing the cost/benefit of those surfaces right now. Grass is more expensive over the life span of a turf installation. Add to that the cost of grow lighting, irrigation, mowing, staff to monitor the turf for condition/disease/damage, and it would probably make the Watson deal look like financing a used Kia.

We may not have a true starting quarterback on the team. Monken knows offense. He's had good QBs in the past so he knows one when he sees one. None of these guys have any ego or sentimental value to him because they are leftovers from the previous ruling junta. We may very well be looking at a situation where we are deciding on who gets to be the backup for 27. Should I just start drinking now and beat the rush once the season starts? I'd love to see Sanders just all of a sudden come to life and be The QB. The media attention, the ad revenue, the cost savings in the upcoming draft; that would be a dream come true. Someone has to play QB. Looks to me like it is a race to the bottom with our current lineup.

Maybe we can get Mel Kiper as a QB consultant for Shedeur. He can tell us if we’re doing anything wrong and correct us since he thinks Shedeur has such potential.

Along the same lines.... I have to assume that part of the pitch for getting a new stadium is being able to utilize it for other events year-round. Turf mitigates the risk of a busy stadium schedule. Look at Pittsburgh and how their field would turn to slop at certain points during the season.

For the record: both Arizona and Vegas keep their turf outdoors. Both have more real estate at the site than we do, and both have much more favorable weather. I'm not sure about the science involved with dealing with harsh weather when your field is on wheels, but I would think there would be a lot more curve balls and expense in our harsh climate.

I don't want you dawgs to worry about our field. Jimmy will top that slab with the best damned turf known to man.
And J-Dubs will make a vid bouncing his kids off of it to prove it.

I despise turf.
Can't stand the way it looks. I understand the economics of turf and domes.
Doesn't make me like it. I know it is brutal outside in northern cities in the winter.
I don't give a damn. I also know it will never come back just like horses over cars.
But I always felt that the outdoors were part of what made football - football. I liked it when the Vikings and Green Bay played outside.
I liked seeing the fans brave the weather like the players on the field. Go home and thaw out after victory was earned.
I loved the "Ice Bowl" when GB beat Dallas.
That is the drama the game once had.
I dislike watching the game on a pool table in a controlled environment.
But that is where we are. Hopefully the players and their union will fight for grass.

I'm with you 100%. The idea of playing in a dome on AT makes me physically nauseous.

It is not a matter of being "old school."
When it rains in baseball they delay the game or postpone it.
Basketball has always been indoors.
Football was an outdoor game. If the weather was bad. You played through it.
In the Fall it was good weather and as the season went on the weather was part of the game.
Rain and mud. Later became snow and cold as the season changed. Fumbles and turnovers. It made the game. You had to be able to adjust.
The Browns came to Atlanta for a game and I went. Belichick was the coach. I had never been to a dome game.
I swore I would never go again to a game played indoors. It was disgusting.
It was like they coated football with lipstick. I still enjoy the game of football. But it does compare to what it once was as far as true drama.

Geez talk about a damning report.
It does not get worse than this. This is not "joe blow" local opinion. This is not Stephen A or "Get Up."
This is not any single person's opinion. These are the top professionals in the NFL the entire group. GMs, former GMs, coaches, the top personnel people in the sport of NFL football.

And in the Top 14... the entire 2018 draft class (minus the bust-Josh Rosen)
Baker and Darnold tied at 14. Boy, what I wouldn't give to look Bake in the eyes and sing... "Here I am, stuck in the middle with you" lol
Could you imagine? Having a middle of the road QB again?! 🤣

Concentration, quick twitch muscles, and hand/eye coordination all have to fire at a different level to complete catches like this.

That article is a staggering indictment.
And now Gabriel is getting more reps by Monken. Proof DW and SS are not separating themselves from Gabriel.
These are forbidding indications for the coming season.
I have no doubt that the team roster has improved. But we all know the importance of QB play.
This could be a year of frustration unless one of these guys improves and takes command. If this ends with player x starts and fails.
Then player z gets a shot. And finally "hell throw that guy in."
We have seen that movie before way to many times.

Oh man if Stefanskis Super Computer is getting reps...thats not a good sign at all. Andrew Berry 7 years in , despite all his ineptness at trying solve The QB room ...still has a job . Its so laughable. This team is headed toward another 4th place finish And Haslam keeps on cashing all those season ticket holders checks . This is worst QB room Monken has had to work with in his coaching career. He has to take a Swansons TV dinner and turn into Cracker Barrell. Good luck .

Makes me puke. Honestly - meh - I don't think a single poster on this board didn't believe we have the worst QB room in the NFL based on everything we have seen from them so far. The only (faint) hope is one of the rookies from last year steps forward and takes a quantum leap forward and gets to as close as possible to 'average'.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Pre-season positional rankings come from past performance. Watson has not played football since 2024, and he was not very good then. He has not been good since 2020. Sanders and Gabriel overall played poorly last season in limited action as rookies. Green is a 6th round draft pick. I would expect our QB room to be ranked dead last or very close to it pre-season. Pre-season rankings are a reflection of past performances it does not mean the QB's will be doomed to stay bottom of the rankings. They might. If Watson or Sanders do not improve these rankings will be spot on. Performance changes rankings I would suspect Sam Darnold would have been pretty low before the 2024 season in Minnesota. Probably down where Watson and Sanders are ranked now.

IMO DW will play his way out of the job.
I believe he is Now what he has been recently. That simply put is not good.
SS has to prove to be able to speed up his processing. He has shown that he can be accurate.
In the end he most likely represents the best of what we have.
