Yes, in the early 50's the bakery and local dairy would send out trucks in to the neighborhoods to go door to door to sell their products. Moms were almost always at home back then. The breadman was willing to forgive me. I was just a 5 year old kid. He didn't care. My mom sure did. After my friend and I returned from running off after our heist she took me in the house to have that motherly talk about right and wrong, then like a leopard she turned and tanned my ass pretty good.

That's exactly what will happen in state like Florida if that's even possible. As of now according to registered voter information Florida has just slightly less than 1.5 million more registered Republican voters than Democrats. So it isn't just a "Republican-leaning state". In actuality considering those numbers it's pretty much sold red with a few Democrat strongholds which were extremely watered down by redistricting.

I didn't say wouldn't. I said probably wouldn't as the owner might not press charges and then the prosecutor might decide to not prosecute. People rob banks and stores because they need the money. I don't think many do it as a form of having fun.
Need doesn't excuse a crime even if you and I understand the motivations, and even if prosecuted not much ever come of it. Nor should it.

It's odd how you never hear them whine about billions going to major corporations. Those corporations too have competitors. Your comment about the Waltons made me think of a recent soundbite I heard - it was regarding a UK podcaster who has been doing a lot on how the wealthy essentially have everything stacked in their favor. He has been a huge proponent of some form of wealth tax for the super wealthy ... He made a reply to someone asking him about the popular right wing phrase "wealth redistribution" .... his response was that the current system is all about wealth redistribution and he gave very detailed answer about why that is. And for a comparison - the wealthiest 0.01% (1 in 10,000 people) has grown their net wealth by 40% over the last 25 years. That's a proportion of the total global wealth ...
In 2000 - top 0.01% held about 8% of the world's wealth. 2025 it was about 12%. That's wealth redistribution .... just in a direction that's not the same as most commonly thought of.
And I get that no-one wants to reward the grifters and people who cheat the system (other than those that support Trump maybe) - but there is as much financial burden by the many con-artists raking and profiteering and avoiding taxes etc (Madoff, Enron, Bankman...) - as there are at the bottom taking advantage of 'welfare' ... focussing on only one doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. And trying to use the bad apples as a justification of helping the majority also makes no sense to me.

In the US - the reality is - just looking at CHIILD DEATHS by firearms ... about 4,600 per year. There's about 12,000 deaths per year as a result of drunk drivers. There **might** be 350-360 homicides by illegal immigrants each year ...

You love laws until they don't line up with your religion. Then you want to change them.
