1. Ron Rivera - LB coach for SD has to be upset at how everything with his HC aspirations played out and the Chicago mess. But, he has been very successful with helping run the 3-4 in SD and every defense he has been apart of has been a top 10 defense.
Would love Rivera. I wonder though how long he'd stick around...if the D improved, his name would be on the hot HC candidate list again...
i also would want to talk to Rivera.

Be careful what you wish, you just might get it. To run an agressive D,you better have good safeties, last I looked we don't. Jones is average,Pool isn't nearly that.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Yeah, that would be nice to duplicate that... Maybe Ryan is the right guy.. who knows.. It was reported that Ryan is the choice of the players in Baltimore and it's been reported that he's interviewed with Ozzie for the job.. so maybe he's not even gonna be available. Don't know.
Does anyone know if he's talking to Atlanta, Washington, Miami for HC jobs?
I don't know if the Redskins interviewed Ryan but Russ Grimm seems like the most popular choice around here in the DC area, well maybe 2nd most behind Bill Cowher who has been spotted in restaurants, hotels, malls, sports bars, real estate agents and college admissions offices all over the greater DC area.

The darkhorse we should really take a look at for DC is Mike Pettine.

Just clicking...Purp, I can confirm that Ryan is not eligible without Baltimore's permission. It looks the only way Ryan gets free is if the new coaching staff doesn't retain his services.
Rex might be the most aggressive and creative play caller in the NFL right now. His work with Haloti Ngata is amazing.

He could be better than average, if he didn't have to cover for pool.

Hey, it's a look-at-me-post! Quote:
1995-96: (with William Tennent HS) 1996: Team established a school record with 9 wins. 1995: Named head coach.
I work in the school district Pettine coached at.
On a serious note, there are quite a few good names out there. Rex or Rob Ryan, Pepper and Rivera all look to be solid candidates. It was a good time to part ways with the Pumpkin. I'll miss all his orange, though!

Here's my list, in no particular order
1. Ryan, 2.Rivera 3. Johnson 4. Schottenheimer. Whoever we get we have to upgrade the D line and learn how to attack.

I could care who RAC decides that he wants to be the DC as long as the Browns win games.
If I am RAC I want a coach that #1 I can work with, that respects me, and will follow my lead.
If I were to take a guess at this point, I would guess Mel Tucker, the work he has done over the course of the last 2 years with the DB's is remarkable, so I lean in his direction.
I would look more towards fit, then I would look towards a big name. Sometimes with big names come big problems. This will be RAC's call, and if I were to bet, it's likely to be Tucker, it really does make sense.

Quite a guess since it was reported in several different places last night that the Browns have already hired Tucker......

I have no crystal ball but if you check my post from yest. In the TG fired thread you will see that I said it then, and simply repeated a portion of that post here.
BTW page 1 if you care to read it...

Just wondering why some people are so high on Tucker? Didn't we give up the most passing TD's in the league this year?
You're not the first I've seen say this... just the first I found to quote and ask the question

No we didn't. We were tied for the Bengals for most in the AFC (29) but the Lions and Saints each allowed 32.
Per nfl.com, available on the internet in most worldwide neighborhoods.

I said this in another post, but for you benefit here it is.
I think MT has done more with less, and here is why!!
We suffered mightily last season with injury but the secondary held up pretty darned well given that fact. I think a large portion of the credit has to go to MT.
Then you come to this season, we started a Rook at CB and a 1st year player at FS, and yes we were ripped early in the season, but then did you notice that EW did a dissapearing act in the latter portion of the season, and that the secondary played light years better at the end of the season. 2+2=4 MT worked with these guys thru the course of the season and they showed marked improvement accross the board. That speaks well for him as a coach, and more importantly he was able to get his message thru to the players and they responded positively to that coaching.
Thats what you want to see from a good coach. be able to get your message thru to your players, and to see positive results on the field. I think that MT is a good coach. In fact last season I thought that if TG was hired away to MS we should make MT the DC then, nothing has changed for me in that regard..

ok.... sooooooo Why do some think he's so great?? To me... giving up ALMOST the most passing touchdowns in the league doesn't warrant a promotion any more than being ranked 30th overall doesn't warrant keeping your job. Or is that just me?

That's true. But it's not really that the corners got smoked on coverage. The average yards per TD reception given up by the team on the season was 13.1 -- thats a red zone score. And, the last 15 of the 29 TD's came on an even shorter field: only average of 9 yards per TD reception allowed. So the corners were not getting blown up for huge gains. It was mostly a red zone offense problem.

Well I know this thread will drop out of existence soon...lol
But I know I'm late but the two I was thinking about besides the in house obvious of Tucker was:
Singletary...but he had a Asst. HC tag in SF Keith Butler LB coach of the Steelers...he coached here 99-2002 and was the LB coach under RAC - thought he would have been good as well.
Both are LB coaches for 3/4 defenses and are the catalyst of those defenses (LBs that is).
But I'm happy with Tucker. Fresh Newness but still continuity!

That's an average, and in the NFL double digit yds.per play is huge.Way,way more than red zone problem. 13.1 yds.per play at first glance makes me wonder what in the hell is going on in the D backfield. I like Mel Tucker also, but if we're going to use stats in his favor, let's at the very least, but truthful with thier interpetation.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

he's young, won't bolt for a HC position next year, known for getting the most out of his players, and grew up in the cleveland area
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

A couple mentioned Pepper Johnson
I'm not sure, but it seems to me that Pepper Johnson would be more familiar with a 4-3 defense than our 3-4 since he played in it. Just a thought here. Go Brownies!!!
