Would you really be surprised? Come on man. This wouldn't be the first time we've seen it and it won't be the last. Are you telling me you haven't seen players play above their past performances in a contract year? I don't think you can honestly say this is a foreign concept to you and you haven't seen it before.

Look at the world around you. When it comes to money it seems there's never enough of it for a lot of people and that includes pro athletes.

Let's look at what little we do know. When the Browns made their first offer to watson, he not only turned it down, he put the Browns on the list of teams he couldn't be traded to because he had a no trade clause. Suddenly when they backed up the Brinks truck he mysteriously wanted to be a member of the Cleveland community. lol

I suppose you could call it "choosing to play well" if you like. That's not quite the way I see it if you break it down. I think we can both agree that with great motivation comes better play. In many cases the mind has a great deal of control over the body.

He had four years to play this way when he was healthy enough to be on the field. He had played this way and even better in he past. Yet suddenly after four years he starts to come back to form?

It's much too early for me to say for certain. It was only one game. But if he continues to play this way for the remainder of the season what other reasonable explanation is there? A huge coincidence in his contract year? An epiphany after four years?

But no, I don't think it's strictly by choice if he continues to play this way. I think it's because he, like many other athletes, is motivated by the money of his next contract. And that motivation has a positive effect on his performance. That isn't some new phenomena.

Can you point me towards those four years? I must have missed them.

He signed in March of 2022. That's the 22, 23, 24 and 25 seasons. This season is the fifth and final season of his contract. What you quoted clearly stated, "when he was healthy enough to be on the field".

So out of my entire post addressing your question, that's all you had in response? This is the nit you're going to pick?

I don't care about Watson. I don't think there is any way, short of a Super Bowl win, that he plays himself into the team's long term plans.

This year is about developing our young players.

I didn't say he just turned it on. I said he was motivated by it being a contract year. We both know players who are strongly motivated no matter the reason perform better. And money has been known to be a pretty good motivator.

You are correct that it was only one game so it's only fair to see if this becomes a pattern or if it was an anomaly. As of how he played last week? He was 16-22 and it was the first time he took the field in a regular season game 22 months. One would think rust should have been expected.

Before the Week 2 matchup, Mayfield openly acknowledged having the home opener against Cleveland circled on his calendar ever since the schedule was released, telling podcasts and reporters that "there's history there—there's no way to go around that".

Nope. Just pointing out he hasn't played much. I can't stand the dude, but he's had devistating injuries.

I would bet he's more concerned about playing good football again than the numbers of his next contract. He certainly isn't choosing to "turn it on" so he can secure another mega-contract.

How about we give a little credit to our rookie WR's ? The TD to Boston , was ALL Boston ( total 154 yards ) and then throw in KC at 71.. Guys getting open and hanging on to the ball ( A new concept here ) lol

Baker looked like the Baker that was here. The 'chip on his shoulder" crap is just that. He is a hot head. He lost Evans, that is what killed him. Evans bailed him out on long balls, he looked just like he did here before they got rid of him.

Watson played good, now he will have to do it again. We will see
