In 2013, during the Obama administration, the Department of Justice revealed that it had secretly obtained nearly two months of Associated Press telephone records from April–May 2012. The records covered 21 (often initially reported as “more than 20”) telephone lines, including: - AP bureau/general office lines in Washington, New York and Hartford - The AP line in the House of Representatives press gallery - Work numbers of individual AP reporters/editors - Some reporters’ personal/home and cellphone numbers The affected offices employed more than 100 journalists, although that doesn't mean the government obtained the individual records of 100 reporters. The Associated Press The important distinction is that this was not established to be wiretapping or listening to reporters' conversations. The DOJ obtained telephone metadata/toll records—information such as numbers called or calling, timing and duration—not the contents of the conversations. AP's contemporaneous reporting explicitly said there was no indication that actual conversations were monitored.
That's in addition to another false claim made in a post where you claim Hilary Clinton suggested Assange be droned - there is no record of that at all.

In September 2026, the Iowa Farmers Union (IFU) officially endorsed a full slate of Democratic candidates for both federal and state-level elections. Group leadership stated that the candidates were scored and selected based on their commitment to family farmers regarding critical issues like corporate consolidation, unfair trade policies, rural healthcare, and water quality.

Wonder what Faux and company would have made of the same word Salad if Biden had mumbled it and said something like "Texas" instead of San Diego or LA?
And while several media outlets retracted the headlines with a correction - I don't remember any retraction or acknowledgement from the media or posters who claimed $50 million USAID was for condoms for Hamas.

I don't say this often, but good on CNN and MSNOW for removing anything related to this fake nonsense this morning. On both main pages and other pages I viewed, I don't see anything about this.
Again, good on them.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
It's funny how they spend an entire day making excuses for what trump said..... again......................
Did Trump say of Iran, 'Let 'em take out' LA and San Diego?
The White House rejected claims that Trump suggested the cities' destruction would be a small price to pay for ending the Iran war.
While speaking about the Iran war on Oct. 5, U.S. President Donald Trump said, "They [Iran] can take out a city. Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay and it's going to be over with very soon."
Rating: Correct Attribution
Trump said these words during an unscripted, tangential portion of a speech he gave at a Nebraska political rally. Many people, including high-level Democratic politicians and pundits, appeared to interpret him as saying the destruction of two large California cities would be a small price to pay for ending the war. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung replied on X that, on the contrary, Trump "was clearly stating U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn't been stopped."
On Oct. 5, a rumor circulated online that, while speaking at a rally, U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran could "take out" Los Angeles or San Diego and that it would be a "very small price to pay" amid the war on Iran.
The joint U.S.-Israel military operation has killed thousands of Iranians, beginning with the assassination of Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, on Feb. 28, 2026. According to an October poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, only 28% of Americans approve of how Trump is handling Iran, as the cost of gas and groceries continued to soar.
"Trump on Iran: Let 'em take out Los Angeles and San Diego, it's a small price to pay," one X post showing a video of Trump speaking was captioned (archived). It had more than 15 million views.
The video was authentic, and the quote was correctly attributed to Trump. While speaking about economic sacrifices during the war at a Nebraska rally on Oct. 5, Trump said (at 1:47:01):
I want to see a tremendous victory. You want to see a tremendous victory 'cause it verifies all the things we did. And again, remember, with the war it's just artificial. It's a little bit high, it's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay and it's going to be over with very soon. It's essentially almost over with and they might keep going a little long. You know, they always say they have a big threshold for pain — they need it, let me tell you, they need it. But it's gonna end very soon and it'll end one way or the other and your gas and your gasoline and all of the things.
California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom and the mayors of Los Angeles and San Diego, denounced Trump's comments.
"After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California," Newsom posted on X, "Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should 'take out' Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous."
We sought comment from the White House, which directed us to a statement on X (archived) by spokesperson Steven Cheung. Cheung wrote that Trump was "clearly" stating that "U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn't been stopped."
It was unclear what Trump was referring to when he made the comment about "a small price to pay" and the White House's response didn't provide further context.
For further reading, we've verified numerous authentic Trump quotes, including that he said the Iran war was "small potatoes" and that when speaking about Iran negotiations, he said, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody."

You really want to compare that to high-ranking people insisting POTUS said our cities should be nuked? Gavin is still spewing this garbage.

Ima start calling you Apples and Orange.
Nope - Gavin acts the same as Trump. He takes something stupid that Trump said and is trying to lie about what Trump said to make political capital. Just like Trump or Vance or Hegseth would do. My comment was in relation to media outlets. Gavin sort of mirrors Trump with the way he does politics ... it's why some people like him I guess.
If you want to focus on the politicians saying things that are lies or misrepresentation of facts, kind of hard to have that conversation when the guy that the poster supports is Trump.

He said what he said. The only excuse for it is to claim what he said isn't what he meant. I do believe some of the headlines were over reactive and weren't honest. But none of that changes what he said.
He said Iran could take out cities. And if they did let them take out L.A. and San Diego. Nowhere did he qualify as that being something they couldn't do now. Claiming that's so is no less dishonest than the very media sources being questioned.
It's a disgusting thing for any president to say, period. And you know it.

The vaccine greatly reduced the odds of death and hospitalizations. So while that would certainly be an overstatement not getting the vaccine was very dangerous and greatly increased the risk factor.
You do get the fact that one statement was trying to save lives while the other statement was calling out which cities a president was willing to see bombed if Iran attacked, right?
Those are not the same thing. I know that somehow, some people hate promoting American lives might actually be saved. I don't understand why but I understand that it actually happened.

Frame it however you want. Blaming one class of people for the death of others with unproven science is disgusting. Period.
I know (knew) somehow you would never admit that and just throw out a side-bar to the conversation though.
I could throw out the same exact "saving lives" narrative as it applies to those that have been calling for our death for 50 years and their ability to acquire nuclear weapons, no? And I could do it without demonizing every day, normal Americans.
Normal is a setting on a washing machine. That's the problem right now. People think if someone has a different sexuality, a different religion or a different value and priority list then their own, they aren't their version of what "normal" means.
I "framed it" the way it is. Yes, you could "frame it" as though Iran was "on the verge" of acquiring nuclear weapons. And I could "frame it" as trump's own fault for canceling the nuclear deal with Iran.
But saying that one statement about Covid vaccines was about saving lives isn't framing anything. It's accurate.
The vaccine greatly reduced the odds of death and hospitalizations. So while that quote you posted would certainly be an overstatement, not getting the vaccine was very dangerous and greatly increased the risk factor.
That's not "framing" anything. And yes, discouraging people from getting that vaccine, especially in certain circumstances of age or preexisting conditions would directly increase the death count.
Let me guess. That's just the way I'm "framing" it?
I actually can't believe you are trying to compare the two but I shouldn't be surprised by it.
And BTW- This comment was about people posting crazy supposed cures and railing against vaccines on social media and nothing more. Just so we're clear here.
Speaking of trying to "frame" something.
