U.S. imposes 50% tariffs on some Canadian goods after trade talks collapse
I'm just curious why any of this is even happening? It seems some people have very short memories. Trump claimed that NAFTA was a terrible trade deal. As such he made a new trade agreement with both Canada and Mexico calling it the USMCA. He claimed it was "the best and most important trade deal ever made". It is not set to expire until July 1st 2036.
Now all of a sudden he says both Canada and Mexico are taking advantage of us and wishes to ignore the very trade deal he himself agreed to and signed with both Canada and Mexico. WTH?
Is it any wonder nations around the globe no longer trust the U.S. and Donald Trump?
First they know that Trump's word isn't worth the paper it''s written on and secondly they now understand that any agreements the U.S. has with anyone, anywhere can be ignored based on a single election. We are no longer the trustworthy partners we used to be.
It seems as though now trump is saying the very deal he made in 2018 no longer counts because he made a crappy deal to begin with?

I don't pay much attention this this. Why did we raise the tariff? Was it simply out of the blue for no reason? I suspect it is because Canada is trying to screw with us in other areas of trade.

Lets get real.... Canada, Mexico and the US had a trade agreement in place... Trump trashed it and then helped put another one in place in his first term...
Now he wants to kill his deal with Canada and Mexico all because Canada rebuffed his efforts to make Canada our 51st state... Why the hell would Canada want that? Trump is a petulant little child who if he doesn't get his way, stomps his feet and cries like a baby.
You can is you wish, turn a blind eye to the Crap he pulls, but I won't.

Saying stuff like this is why Trump supporters are allowed to wriggle free of the completely dumb and irrational schtick Trump pulls constantly - from starting a war with Iran without any clear objectives, to canceling sanctions that Congress imposed on Russia, to regurgitating Putin propaganda like Ukraine started the war ("and one day I will release the details" ).
The issues with Canada have nothing at all to do with Trump's stoopid comments about Canada being the 51st state.

It goes back to not taking what Trump says 'seriously' .... Trump was trolling when he said that. Mark Carney isn't running his country based on hurt feeling because the douche canoe in the WH said something mean. Trump might run the USA based on being a petulant child with a vendetta - but other world leaders don't do that. But you can disagree if you want.

Trump has trashed and broken that very agreement he bragged about with both Canada and Mexico. Now you won't have to guess anymore.
