Living as close to Nashville as I do unless you live in silence and black out the local news it's hard not to hear and know what's going on with the Titans.

First I have seen no indication they didn't draft a bust at QB. This kid just doesn't have it.

They have scored the fewest points per game in the NFL at 11.6 per game (84 total points through six weeks).

Their defense allows 21.8 points per game (tied for 11th in the NFL) So it's not that easy to score on them as one might think.

After the Titans just winning their first game Saleh may have turned a corner or it could be just an anomaly. Much of that win was with huge contributions from the special teams and their defense.

In actuality there are some similarities here. Both teams have pretty good D's and sputtering O's. But I think the Browns D is a little better and having a weak offense is better than having no offense.

What the Browns have managed to do is find a way to win when it looks like they will lose. What the Titans have done is just look like they're going to lose, and losing. Until last week.

I was glad that they won last week and got the monkey off their backs. I think it's super important to not let them feel any success offensively early in the game (we've had trouble doing that this year)

That said, would they be a buyer of Sanders now that he has an agent and all? What might their offer be? What would our ask be from the Browns? Being close to the team there, who do you see that we might like in player(s), say for a straight trade? Would you see a benefit in pushing trades for our QB to next year's draft? I ask because we seem to be re-working our roster on a weekly basis. Go, Browns!

I guess so much for the consensus number one pick.

The quarterback position is the NFL's mystery behind box one.

It would be interesting to playback all the reasons that the experts gave why he should be the first pick.

But of course accountability is a hide n seek game.

Looking at this year's crop of college quarterbacks. Good luck finding the right guy.

I don't think anyone would trade anything for Sanders other than some late round pick. And let's face it, he threw 7td's and 10 int's when he played last season. What would you give up for that?

I think this sentence describes the entire problem. The people who promoted Sanders be the first pick are not experts. The experts left him on the draft board until the 5th round.

I think we'd be lucky to fetch a like-round pick for Sanders ... like a 5th TOPS. I'd bet it would be more like a pick swap .. their 5th for our 6th

In previous years I would have felt like this was a trap game - I would have expected the Browns to come out flat and play down to the level of our competition when they were bad .... this feels a bit different at the moment. I'm expecting the offensive struggles to continue ... I'm expecting DW to throw an interception or maybe two (it's a miracle he has only 2 Int so far) ... but I am expecting us to find a way to win.

Of course - based on the last 25 years that means I am going to be sorely disappointed on Sunday!! But ....

Just to add some drama that may shed some light on the conditions in the Titans locker room.....

Source: Jordan Elliott attempted to retrieve gun after spat with Titans teammate

Former Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jordan Elliott was attempting to retrieve a gun from his car following an altercation with a teammate during practice last week, a source confirmed to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

The Titans released Elliott on Tuesday, citing an undisclosed "incident" that occurred at the team facility last Thursday.

A source confirmed to Garafolo that, after a dispute with offensive lineman JC Latham, Elliott went to his parked car in the players' parking lot to get the gun. The gun never left Elliott's parking spot, the source told Garafolo.

Multiple media outlets first reported Tuesday night that Elliott attempted to retrieve the gun from his car. Titans defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers helped to deescalate the situation, according to multiple reports.

NFL rules stipulate that players are not allowed to possess firearms at any team or league facilities.

Titans coach Robert Saleh told reporters before last Friday's practice that Elliott wouldn't be available because he was "dealing with personal stuff." Elliott did not make the trip to Indianapolis last weekend and was inactive for the Titans' upset victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Elliott, 28, signed a two-year deal worth up to $8.5 million with the Titans in the offseason after spending the previous two seasons with Saleh and the San Francisco 49ers. He appeared in five games this season with one start, registering 11 tackles.

I would hope we got our "trap game" out of the way vs the Jets. I also don't feel like it will be because we have historically (for whatever reason) handled our business vs weaker Titans squads (whereas we seem to like to do the opposite with weak Jets teams).

The topic at that point was about Sanders. I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were referring to Sanders. My bad.

Weren't there stories out there that if the Titans hadn't chosen him, the Browns would have and not traded back?

I think a lot of QBs over the past 25 years have gone in the first round, that in the 70s and 80s would have gone in Rds 2-4. Teams are desperate and they talk themselves into it.

Draft "experts" are a joke. I don't recall which one, but I think it was Mel who said Johnny Football should go #1 overall. He also said he would retire is Jimmy Claussen wasn't a longtime successful QB. I thought he was going to start crying when Sanders didn't go in the first 2-3 rounds. Rosen was top ten and out of the league in less than about 5 years.

If you keep drafting QBs in round 1, you don't get those picks back for OL, DL, WR, CB etc. Your team just gets weaker.

Not ambitious or that curious where SS is now. I have managed to maintain a low opinion of him as a starter. Not in the market for somebody to throw picks. Takes picks a-plenty and sacks as well. I would be holding him up to "compete" with the player he is to replace. Maybe a surplus player we could use for depth, for SS and a late, late pick next year like a 7th. I hate considering it, but he may have as much value now as he will have for draft capital.
Wanted to see where you felt we were. I have a higher opinion of Gabriel overall.

Ward was the first pick and somebody else would have drafted right quick if the Titans didn't.

Quite honestly I don't know if anyone is an expert.

There are plenty of guys who know football and really study tape. There are 32 professional staffs that draft players and are paid a lot to do so.

When it comes to quarterbacks there are way more misses that hits.

There are certainly more misses than hits. And it's certainly true that the QB position has become far more critical in the modern era than it ever was before. There are cases where teams have won the SB with average QB's and a great defense but that certainly isn't the norm. That's why teams try so hard to find a solution to the QB position which helps lead to those misses.

As for who the experts are you do make a valid point. With as many misses as there are in the draft claiming anyone is an "expert" may be overstating it a bit.

But there are certain things we can be sure of. NFL teams have entire scouting departments. They have entire analytics departments. They spend millions upon millions of dollars to hire the best of the best in those fields.

So maybe it would be better to say that the 32 NFL teams by far have the most resources and the top people in their fields with which to make more informed decisions than the "draft gurus" in the media do.

General reply; I have no ideas how or why a thread about the upcoming game turned into yet another QB thread but here we are.

Titans picked Ward.

I have not even seen him play. The number one pick goes to the worse team.

They threw him out on the field right away. The team is probably not too good.

Hard to throw in the towel on Ward. I mean they have to give him a chance.

Here we are. And the word is "the Browns are a quarterback away."

Maybe we could trade them Watson for Ward? humor.

One game and then the next.

I get the entire concept of giving him a chance. And I'm by far no QB guru. I mean the light might still turn on for him. And most all teams give such a high pick at QB in the draft time to see what they have. NFL teams know a helluva lot more than I do.

But there are a couple of things I'm well aware of. The biggest one is what teams hope so see as a positive sign is for such a QB to learn and grow over time. For tangible progress to be made with experience and for the game to slow down for these young QB's. And with Ward thus far, he looks no better than the first time he stepped on the NFL field almost a season and a half ago. Which wasn't good.

OL, RBs, WRs, TE's?

The offense is last in scoring.

I tend to agree, especially the Titans. First, they aren't going to give up on Ward just yet. It's year 2. Next year at this time might be a different story. Plus, they have Trubisky as their back-up. He would get the start and Ward would be the back-up. Ward wouldn't go to #3. Ward is still the QB of the future for at least this year and the start of next season. Sanders would be the 3rd team guy.

I don't think Sanders has any worth as a mid season pick-up. He isn't going to come in and start for some team. Heck, I have a feeling that when Gabriel comes back ready to play and if he picks up where he left off, he will be our #2 QB. I don't think Shedufus has much worth to any team in the league. Maybe Sanders and our 7th for some teams 6th is possible.

They has Carnell Tate, Calvin Ridley and Wan'Dale Robinson at WR so they certainly aren't lacking in talent there. The interior of their OL isn't great but Ward is nowhere even close to being pressured the most in the NFL.

I didn't think there was much difference between the Browns OL and the Titans OL in terms of overall strength so I checked out what PFF thought. They have the Browns ranked at #22 and the Titans ranked at #23. Here is what PFF had to say about the Titans OL...........

Quote
The Titans’ offensive line looked about as good as it has all season in the win over the Indianapolis Colts, with Atonio Mafi the only player to post a PFF pass-blocking grade below 70.0 in the game. He allowed two pressures from 24 pass-blocking snaps, a total that was matched by the rest of the line combined.

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-offensive-line-rankings-2026

I have a problem deciding whether their TE's are weak or if it's simply a matter of them not being used much. Sort of like the way a lot of us feel about Fannin right now.

I can't see any legitimate reason they should be last in scoring other than Ward. If he plays to his usual standards you'll see what I mean on Sunday.

We have a pretty good secondary so it may very well be in this game their WR's will have more trouble getting separation than usual.

It seems that when drafted QBs sit and learn like Rodgers, Love, and now Mendoza.

It helps. Some QBs take time to develop.

I can't say a thing about Ward. I have never seen him play.

Besides the fourth quarter DW has been horrible. Lots of 3 and outs. Hard to get into a rhythm like that. Guys like Fannin are not even getting targets because the offense does not stay on the field.

That has to change. We have to have more possession time. It would really help if we could average 4+ yards per carry running the ball. Scheme some short completions to KC and Fannin. Both guys are good at YAC.

I would love to see a game where the offense scores 30 points.

They did score 23 against the Bucs and 27 points against the Steelers but otherwise the O has been pretty anemic. I certainly agree with your assessment of the situation.

IMO under no circumstances should DW be here next season. Even if we won a Super Bowl with him, which I highly doubt, he should be gone. Let's draft and develop our own guy for the future. Possibly sign a vet QB then let the FO decide what to do with SS and DG. I would try to develop Green if at all possible. I would very much consider trading SS in this scenario.

I heard a stat yesterday that for the 1st 3 quarters Watson is ranked #32 of QBs in the NFL. In the 4th quarter he is ranked as the #9 ranked QB. So, he has been more clutch than good this year.

I would tend to agree with you. Just out of curiosity I looked up the most come from behind 4th quarter wins in an NFL season and here is what I found..........

The record for the most fourth-quarter comebacks by a quarterback in a single NFL season is 8, shared by Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions, 2016) and Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings, 2022).

So far all of the Browns four wins have come from 4th quarter come from behind deficits.

I don't know if that means anything but I found it interesting.

True, it's not... but (obviously) it's better than the opposite that we're pretty familiar with... but beyond that I would love to try to understand what's behind it because it's happening enough times to not be an aberration.

The whole DW being the quarterback is difficult to figure.

Monken made an interesting statement about how he decided to give the starter job to Watson.

He said when he looks his best. It looks good.

DW must strive for consistency. We don't know if DW will improve. That is the odd part.

You would think that as each game passes. The whole offense will improve.

Hopefully Monken can coach the offense up. Chemistry takes time.

This week will be another chapter in the story.

I think the word "good" is often a relative term. I think you must consider the competition. I mean I don't doubt that when given the choices of the QB room he had to work with that Watson looked good.

But I wouldn't consider that a "good" thing. naughtydevil

Glad to see Grant Delpit back so quick. Would love to see him and McNeil-Warren on the field together more over Ronnie Hickman. Maybe that is already the case but haven't noticed.

Jordan Elliot gets released today from the Titans

Due to pulling out a gun in the parking lot

Hopefully that'll help the Browns run game

I also posted this in NFL news, but thought it might be okay here as well

Given the offensive struggles of both teams.

Seems like one of these teams has to figure out how to score enough points to win.

Graham is going to play and that will help.

It would really help the Browns if we can find some offensive rhythm and score like four touchdowns.

It might give them the needed confidence on the offensive side of the ball.

Maybe with our RB's all healthy and with the new guys we have we can establish a good ground attack and it will open up the passing game more. Our OL has to play better.
