I am not a hickman fan. I would welcome this group replacement if yje players you mention are healthy and full go. What are you considering in Hickman's game so far? Am I missing something as far as his play that I should know about and raise my opinion of his play? Like to know whaat you look for because I am not that grounded about play at his position.

Every time a Browns coach speaks about the defense.

Carson is the guy brought up. HC, DC, LB coach, other players. All speak to what Carson brings to the table.

Really unusual for a second year player to take over the leadership role.

Clearly he is "the man" on defense.

I'm not sure it's so unusual. I think the circumstances are what's unusual.

You can look at great D players like LT, Bruce Smith, Ronnie Lott, Warren Sapp and the list goes on that were taking over leadership roles in their second seasons. Not only that, they were expected to fill that role from the day they were drafted. But they were all drafted near the top of the 1st round.

For me what is different in this situation and makes it at least somewhat unusual is that Schwesinger is the guy they, "never saw coming". If the league would have seen what he was capable of on draft day he never would have been sitting on the draft board at #33. As a matter of fact some were surprised by the pick and thought it was a reach.

So I certainly agree that his ability to be a leader of the D is a surprise for many, I think that comes from where he was drafted and living up to a role far exceeding the expectation of fans at the time.

But it's certainly nice for us to get a pleasant surprise for a change isn't it? smile

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Even Schwartz was surprised by how advanced Carson was in his first year.
Schwartz had high praise for Carson.

I don't know too many players who as a rookie wore the green dot.

Especially when you have vets at safety or more experienced linebackers on the team.

I am glad he is a Cleveland Brown. I believe he will have a great career if he can avoid major injury.

Can you imagine Carson and a healthy JOK playing together? We would have the best defense in the league.

I know, it's heartbreaking.

I'll say one thing, whatever changed in how evaluate the draft field is night and day compared to what we had grown accustomed to for decades.

Oh definitely no doubt. Now if we could just apply that better evaluation to the quarterback position we’ll be OK.

It's like I tried to explain to you. The great defensive players in the league have all been able to do what you are describing. I've already listed some of these players for you and can list many more. It's just that nobody expected it out of Carson. Not even Schwartz.

It seems to me that's exactly what you are describing yourself.

Pretty simple. I need no explanation.

Carson has been recognized from the day he showed up as being advanced in development. Schwartz praised him early on and compared him to stars in the league.

Since then Tarver and Rutenberg have echoed what Schwartz said. Players have also pointed out what he is doing. His study. His preparation. His actions on the field.

He was drafted 33rd.

Winning the DROY is an accomplishment. One player gets it.

I said it is unusual for a young player to receive that kind of acclaim. If you think it is common ok.

Not a point to dispute.

I am glad he is a Cleveland Brown and I am a Carson fan.

I'm not much of a Hickman fan, either and hope we determine his replacement, although, he did end up being pretty good value for us as an UDFA. I think McNeil-Warren could be the replacement to him but maybe not your prototypical FS. Then again, not sure that is is relevant anymore in the modern NFL.
