It is most certainly is a religion. As with all religions throughout history there are those among that religion who have warped and bastardized it to be something it was never intended to be. The same as been done with Christianity throughout history at different points in time. Millions of people throughout history have been killed and slaughtered in the name of Christianity as well.

You call it "taken over the religion". At this time there are just over two billion Muslims in the world. There is a difference in taking over the headlines and taking over the religion. What makes the news and what gets shown to many are just the extremes of the Muslim religion, not the religion as a whole. You know how that works. Only the most extreme things hit the news. It makes for ratings.

I don't see the peaceful ones speaking out against the radicals

I get that. We never see what we haven't been shown or haven't looked for ourselves. There are a lot of peaceful Muslims leaders who have spoken out and this is by no means a compete list. It doesn't even account for the peaceful Muslims around the globe that speak out against it................

• Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri: The Pakistani-Canadian Islamic scholar issued a comprehensive 600-page Fatwa on Terrorism in 2010—endorsed by Cairo's Al-Azhar University—declaring that suicide bombings and terrorist attacks have no place in Islamic law and branding terrorists as unbelievers (disbelievers of peace).

• Grand Mufti Ibrahim Abu Mohamed: The Grand Mufti of Australia has repeatedly issued public statements and fatwas condemning violent extremist acts, including the 2014 Sydney hostage crisis and subsequent acts of terror, emphasizing that such violence contradicts Islamic teachings of peace.

• Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan: The prominent Indian Muslim scholar and former head of the Delhi Minorities Commission has publicly condemned mass atrocities and acts of terror committed by militant groups like the Pakistani Taliban, calling them "a blot in the face of Islam".

• Imam Azam Akram: Local and international community imams (such as Imam Akram in Chicago and various leaders organized through groups like the Islamic Network Group) regularly hold interfaith forums, lectures, and condemnations explicitly rejecting ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and domestic radicalization.

• Hassan Rouhani: As president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani condemned international extremist massacres—such as the 2015 Paris attacks claimed by ISIS—publicly labeling them "crimes against humanity".

• Jama Masjid Trust (Delhi): The leadership of India’s historic Jama Masjid explicitly refused Islamic burial rites to the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, stating that those who commit such heinous acts against innocent people cannot be considered true followers of Islam.

The issue as it seems to me is reporting things like this doesn't help feed into the agenda that you seem to be convinced of.

A fraction of all Muslims are actually violent extremists. Convincing people to believe otherwise seems to be the ultimate goal.

Our of interest, how many Muslims do you know or have spoken to?

I never said most. I said a large portion. I will say that places like Iran, where the religion has become the political voice, it seems like most. It also seems like there isn't a lot of other Muslums speaking out against, but I do understand it is probably out of fear.

How many Muslims do I know or have spoken to? I don't know just like I don't know how many Jews, or for that matter the numbers of Christians I know or have spoked with. I don't make it a point to ask people about their religious belief.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Maybe it wasn't your intention - but you said some are peaceful but a larger portion don't agree and my understanding was you are talking about the Muslims' themselves. If more don't agree that it's a peace based religion that would make them the majority... hence my comment.

I think much of the opinion that paints muslims and their religion as anti-peace and hateful is based on inaccurate information and limited exposure. It's easier to point and blame and hate than it is to try to understand and accept. The history of the USA's actions in the middle east have certainly fostered and helped feed terrorist organizations. Whether that is because of leaders lying and spinning facts doesn't absolve some of the interference that the USA (the UK too) engaged in and some of the reaction it caused.

I thought Pits response was pretty reasonable in highlighting some of the voices within the Muslim world that speak out against violence.

It's interesting that Saudi is considered an ally - they are 93% Muslim. Qatar 68% Muslim - you and Day of the Dawg wanted to keep the 747 they donated or saw nothing wrong in accepting it. Add UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkey .... there is a long long list of Muslim countries we treat as allies. Hardly seems reconcilable to brand them as being largely filled with hate/terrorist/ant-Christian.

The religion is based on hate and intolerance. The people and the countries they run have a right to exist. they have a right to practice their religion. But to call Muslims anything other than a religion of hate is misleading. Most of those counties support terrorism including the countries we consider allies at this time due to peace treaties. The Muslims do not believe in Israel's right to exist. They consider any person that is not a Muslim as an infidel, and we know what their Qaron says they should do to infidels. Look at what is currently happening in Nigeria. There is an actual genocide happening there yet no outrage by the United Nations. Why do you think that is? Remember 9/11? Tell me what the US ever did to the Taliban? In the 1980's Iraq was considered our Allies. In the 1990's our enemy. Also, in the 1980's Afghanistan was our allies in the 2000's our enemy. Iran has been our enemy the entire time. Look at what is happening in Europe. That is an example of what happens when you allow this culture into your country. That culture is anti-American, anti-peace. All it knows is to infiltrate and then dominate.

And that's what it boils down to. You have Iran and Gaza. Even most of the groups that are anti-American are connected with Iran.

The population of Iran is 93 million people. As we already know many Iranians themselves do not support their government. The entire population of Gaza is 2.2 million people. 47% of that population are under 18 and that doesn't even include the women.

Considering there are over 2 billion Muslims that's an extremely small percentage of them.

Unfortunately, a large portion of the religion seems to not pay attention. I know some say Islam is a peaceful, loving religion. I am sure that is true for many, but a seemingly larger portion don't agree.

It makes this totally false. This once again goes to show that often times the perception one forms is not the reality.

Hey Mr Racist Day of the Dawg ... no need to reply to me. You are full of lies, hate and misinformation. So much so I heard there are Russian misinformation organizations that have started to cut and paste what you write and spread it across the www. If you actually believe half what you write in this forum you are a very sick and troubled individual. Those so inclined should pray for you.
