I was wondering what any of you may know about having a misdemeanor expunged from your record.
Well over 12 to 13 years ago when I was a young one I let a guy borrow my truck at work and it turned out he was stealing stuff from the job. Then come to find out in the grand scheme of things him, and another guy, had been doing it for a long time so it turned into a grand theft case. Well the whole time they were stealing this stuff they were taking it to a scrap yard that was writing the license plate numbers of the vehicles that were coming in. SO when it all came out everyone who's vehicle was involved was charged as part of the grand theft case. When it was all said and done the peoples who's vehicles were used were offered plea deals of petty theft in exchange for agreeing to testify against the POS who were doing the stealing.
Well in the past I never really cared about the petty theft on my record because it was not a felony. I am now in college and am starting to look for a job in the field I am attending school in. Some places are running complete criminal checks rather than just felony checks.
Does anyone know how I go about getting that expunged from my record? Will I have to hire a lawyer to do it??
Thanks

I can't say with any degree of certainty, but my guess is you need a lawyer. Anything dealing with law nowadays requires an attorney............and money.

You were too kind to let that person use your truck for whatever reason! It always sucks when you be nice and it ends up kicking you for a long time!
I am not sure what you need to do man.....I would guess it is all about a lawyer at this point...I guess I am not much help......but good luck!

Yeah I let him use my truck because I thought I was getting a free lunch out of it and it ended up costing me a years probation, community service(which actually was a fun,I got to work in a elementrary school and teach kids hockey for a week) and thousands of dollars in legal fees.

I had a little legal "hiccup" back in my 20's. I had it expunged after 3 years of unsupervised probation. It cost about $450 and the lawyer did everything. Just go get yourself a lawyer. Pay him to do his job... sign on the dotted line and be done with it. I no longer have to report it on any application for anything.

If you don't know how to do it, you need representation.....even then he or she may not be able to get a court order.
You want a shot.......pay up.

Depends on the job... in my line of work, even if its expunged you MUST report it or you risk losing your clearance.

Actually I went through this just a few years ago. I did not have to retain an attorney for this (because I was broke). I talked to the courts, and they told me to write a letter to the judge asking for my record to be expunged. So my suggestion would be to call the court to see what they expect out of you.
After writing the letter, they sent a letter saying I had a court date. I showed up to court expecting to explain myself alot, but they did not ask too many questions. They just granted the expungement and I had to pay court costs (around $60 I think). Very simple. If I can find the form on how I wrote the letter I will send it to you somehow. Very simple process.
