You have every right to your opinion, what I find laughable is the fact that people have to go to such extremes to make their point about wanting RAC out of here. I think suggesting he is a terrible DC unless he is under the same head coach where he was so successful is beyond reaching.

Lampy, lerner looks like an idiot sticking with a clueless coach who's team is REGRESSING not progressing! It's regressed because of the injuries, the O-line sucks, we're young at key offensive positions, receivers can't catch, and oh yeah, the O-line sucked, even when healthy.

If he doesn't go along, he is canned. If he does, he is a little twerp just looking to save his neck. [color:"orange"] What we need is something in between these 2 extremes. If we make whole sale changes to the assistant coaching staff that would have the same effect as starting over so why keep Romeo? Maintaining a complete status quo? What would be the point? We can all see that there are some definite deficiencies. If you can bring in a FA player to upgrade a position what is wrong with bringing in a new coach or 2 to upgrade the coaching staff? On offense my feelings are that we need a new Wr coach (though I have said for yrs that Robo needs to go) and a new Qb coach. But the biggest question is who is going to run the offense and call the plays? Do we give Davidson the offseason to install "his" offense or do we bring someone else in? I don't know what the best answer is. I guess a lot depends on who is available. Ultimately the results of this decision will determine if Romeo will be around in 2008 or if we will be starting all over once again. On defense: Not sure what to make of Grantham. One week our D makes him look like a genius, the next like a moron. The only other defensive assistant coach I am familiar with is our Db coach Tucker. I think he has done a pretty good job of keeping the defensive backfield together what with losing Baxter, 'cutch and Minter for the season and Bodden, Russell and Hamalton for parts of the year. Excactly... this is what I find funny... people wanting a new head coach after 2 friggin years!?! With all the injuries we've had and [censored] poor personal at key positions (CB, OL, etc) this team was set up for an average season at best... I give RAC one more year to at least show some progress... I don't want to gut our entire team... again...

Blah Blah Blah....are we the only team with injuries? Are we the only team with a bad O-line? Are we the only team that's young at key offensive positions ad nauseum? Look Lampy(i love that name btw don't you?) I'll play your game...lets keep the coach who looks like a duck that was just walloped on the head...then what? What, pray tell, is your answer to all our problems? I am all atwitter as I wait anxiously for your words of wisdom.

Head Coaches (especially struggling ones) are forced to make changes to their staffs all the time. Some it might damage permanently, but others go on just fine. (or even better)
I would guess that some are even thankful for a front office willing to play the "bad guy", as it allows them to stay "loyal" to their fired coaches.(a case of "well, I didn;t want to let you go ... but ....... )
In the end, if Crennel is forced to make changes, and the team wins, he'll be fine in the long run. If he continues to lose .... then he'll be out.

That may or may not be an entirely accurate statement Jules, I don't have those facts at hand...but let's assume that you are correct...do you think they are not considering some type of change in Detroit, TB, Arizona,Oakland, et al? I want us to win....I want this team to prosper..I don't think RAC's the guy..perhaps you do...in that case we will agree to disagree. I can't wait till this time next year and see who is eating crow....the RAC supporters or the RAC detractors....only time will tell.

There is a lot of things that would have been looked over if not for Braylon Edwards. When you have an owner that feels that the entire organization has been embarrased by a player due to lack of discipline from the HC, guess what heads will roll. If it wasnt for Savage, Rac would already be gone and if RAC is still here next Sunday, you can thank Phil Savage.
If that happens i will join Vers in the can Opie chant lol.

if it was me, I'd get rid of whack RAC and hire Cam Cameron in a heartbeat. Let him assemble a staff. Roll the frigging dice Lerner and lets see what happens...continuity be damned! I don't mean to be rude, but who is the Blonde in your sig??

I don't think there is any eating crow to be done. We simply don't know after just two years. I believe RAC and Phil should definitely get one more year. If I see the same thing next year, I will certainly entertain the fact that one or both are not the men for the job. I just think it's ludicrous to have expected much more than this with the pool of players we have and the injuries to key players.
If Lerner dumps them after this very short time, I will make Vers look like Lerner's biggest fan.

are we the only team with injuries? Are we the only team with a bad O-line? Are we the only team that's young at key offensive positions ad nauseum? Every team has injuries. Our main problem is depth. We have have average talent as starters in most positions so when we are ravaged by injuries we have below to way below average talent replacing them. I say give Crennel one more year, this way Savage has 2 full seasons to bring talent in. If we are struggling again next year we can re-evaluate. Nope, and the teams with those problems have the same or worse records than we do.

I just think it's ludicrous to have expected much more than this with the pool of players we have and the injuries to key players. [color:"orange"] I think one of the big problems we as fans had this season is that with the signing of Bentley we all expected to have an All Pro center on this team and we all expected that this one addition would have a significant impact on improving our o-line. This in and of itself was not unreasonable. The problem arises is that we had him for several months and these expectations became so well ingrained that when he was lost for the season - before the season even began, we just weren't able to modify our expectatations to where they belonged. Not to worry Jules .. here comes the voice of reason and intelligence . *LOL*
will there be changes?? prolly .. the only change that really matters at this point is getting BETTER PLAYERS ... w/o that .. were SCREWED no matter who coaches ..
RAC deserves a FAIR SHOT ... and I do not believe Randy is the IDIOT Vers and others make him out to be ... so RAC will get another year .. AS HE SHOULD ..
and even if everything in this article comes true ... Mary Kay is the worst beat writer of the bunch .. she has NO RIGHT REPORTING on the Browns .. she knows ZERO ABOUT FOOTBALL .. I'm not sure if I would even grace her stuff with a spot in my bird cage .. that may be giving it WAY TO MUCH RESPECT ..

Autumn, I have been frustrated beyone words this season, believe me. I want another year to make my determination on both RAC and Savage. I think people had some unrealistic expectations about how quickly this mess could be turned around. That's my opinion, two years is nowhere near enough. I do expect a very real improvement next year, if there isn't one, my attitude will change drastically.

perhaps I am a tad too impatient. yep Autumn I usually like most of your posts... but you've gone off the deep end a bit on this thread I understand the frustration (damn do I understand the frustration)... but I don't think any team should fire a HC after just two years... personally I think he should get one more year... and a very short leash. I'm happy that it looks like we are making changes on the offensive coaching side... because our WR coach sucks... we havn't had a good OC forever... and our RB is average IMO. I've seen glimpses of a good team... just need to get more consistent and maybe get a better strength and conditioning coach so we don't have half our team on IR.

I think poeple that expected a better season than what we got were fooling themselves in the beginning.
We had a tough schedule and a lack of talent. Not to mention all of the injuries. How were they ever going to have a better season than they had this year.
Most realistic poeple had this team winning about as many games as they did. I believe I have seen improvement from this team and some questions about the team have been answered. Maybe not the answers some of us wanted but answers no less.
I give RAC one more season. Savage has this year to address the team needs and for RAC to turn this thing around. I just can't give up on them before they even had a chance to build their team.

We've seen "glimpses" every damn year. BFD
Glimpses are what bad teams hang their PR on. Overall, glimpses are about as important as "winning the last game of a lost season in order to set a winning tone for the next year". That worked really well following the 2003 season ... and 2004 .... and 2005 ..... all seasons where we won our finale.
This team still does NOTHING consistenly well. Nothing. We don't run the ball, or stop the run. We can't pass, or stop the pass. We are the 31st ranked team in total offense and defense. Glimpses be damned.

I never judge a coach on wins and loses unless it is a long run of losses. I think for me it is about the things he can control. Does he allow obvious things to tear a team apart. Butch it started by not trading Couch after 2002. The Edwards situation is a team cancer created by lack of discipline.
Does he go for the jugular or does he play afraid to lose?
Does the team waste timeouts just to get the right personnel on the field?
Does he recognize the talent that he has? (benching Bodden for Minkens)
Does he show a true command and fully involved in what his team is doing? (one reason I loved Laundry)
Does the team make adjustments when the opponent changes things up?
Does the team choke in the 4th or are they a 4th quarter team?

I don't see it as grasping at anything. It is simply looking at the situation and projecting how it will end.
The odds of this having a happy ending are pretty slim, so I base my opinion on the odds that are most likely to happen.
Fact is, I like Romeo. He is a swell guy.
I just don't think he is going to cut it as a head coach.
It is just my opinion and I might be wrong. In a year or two we will be able to reflect on the matter and determine who's view was closer to the end result.
I mentioned this to you sometime in the past. Do you have opinions of your own or do you just have opinions of other peoples opinions?

I can't wait till this time next year and see who is eating crow....the RAC supporters or the RAC detractors....only time will tell. I can't say that you would be justified if the Browns fire RAC. They certainly have made more than their share of ignorant moves over the years. A couple of points on the rest: Mourg: I have NEVER said that I wanted Opie fired. In fact, I don't want him fired. I simply want him to do a better job of acquiring talent. Diam: I do think Junior is an idiot. He's a terrible owner. However, I NEVER said that RAC will be fired. Three weeks ago, I said that the plan was to bring RAC back for next season, but that there would be multiple coaches let go after the season. I have to believe that is still the plan, unless we play as bad as we did against TB again this week and Junior makes yet another rash decision.

RAC enrages me with his lack of emotion and the fact that we NEVER seem to get better in the second half of the game. That is what bugs me about RAC too. I really worry about his inability to adjust on the fly in order to counteract the opposing team. This is just another example of people seeing things differently. There are limited options available when you're on the short end of the talent stick. Heck - I was impressed that he was able to stay in half of the games. They game-planned as best they could against better opponents to keep things close so they could try and make a play late. Had we executed better offensively and gotten leads - a lot of games could have had different endings. That's like saying you were waiting for David to REALLY get the upper hand after his slingshot missed Golliath. We've been outmanned since we came out of camp. Our strength of schedule is among the highest in the league - but we were in most games (we just don't match up against Cinci). Its always interesting to see how diferent expectations can totally change the perspective on the same events.

Why?? My hope is Romeo sticks....and I suspect he will....but I really do have a problem when the head guy can manage to stick around when all of him people get tossed off the ship. Now...as I said some time back.....maybe this is something that Romeo brought to the front some time back....who really knows except the people close to the situation??? At any rate, if he has a sense of security, I think he now knows the score....win or hit the door. Then the sites will be set on Savage....he can go through 1 coach with ease. If he does the same with 2, it has to raise some real questions. I am just in a pissy mood that will probably linger most of the winter because once again, we are the Clowns, and I just get really tired of that.

Defense
We have guys who back in August were happy to get Practice Squad spots as our top 3 starters at Cornerback, and they've been there that way more than our regular starters. In fact, of our normal top 3 only Bodden saw any significant amount of time on the field at all.
Surprise, surprise... teams went pass wacky on us all damn year.
We have a starting linebacker corps that consists of one young vet in Davis, two rookies and McGinnest, but McGinnest has been hampered by injuries all year. The rookies have been progressing and learning, but still showing that they are rookies that need to progress and learn. AD is AD... nothing great, but he doesn't suck.
Surprise, surprise... we've seen a fair amount of inconsistency there.
DLine... do I even need to go there? Roye & Washington are the only consistent ones and they ain't what they used to be.
Surprise... we can't stop the run.
Offense
OLine... see DLine. We're also down to one guy who was a starter in training camp. Two if you only go back as far as the 1st game. Other than that, we're starting backups and backups to the backups.
We can't pick up a blitz or open a hole to save our lives.
WR's - a mixed bag to say the least. Consistently Inconsistent is the best description. Winslow & Jurevicius are the only bright spots. Edwards did decent but was inconsistent as hell (I'm ignoring the off field crap, just looking at football). Cutt worked his way out of town.
If you came up and told me that we had more drops or incompletions that completions, I wouldn't doubt you. I also wouldn't doubt anyone that said our YPC was below 8 yards.
RB - Bunches of ugly. Droughns looked nothing like he did last year. Harrison, the 3rd down back we had been looking for, couldn't get on the field. Wright was a bit of a bright spot, but only recently.
We're worse at running than the D is at stopping the run.
QB - All I'm gonna say is that we need more from this position, but this position also needs quite a bit more from the other positions.
Now.... if we look at all of that (and whatever I forgot to mention), I would think it's pretty damn obvious that our problems are not coaching related. There are PLENTY of reasons right there for ANY coach/team to fail.... but if you give ANY coach ALL of those I guarantee that they WILL fail unless their schedule includes playing Detroit 16 times.
As for the people that want RAC gone because he isn't emotional enough or whatever other similar personality related reason.... you need to go read a book or watch tennis or something, maybe take up winter gardening.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
