Thanks everyone!

As far as what I am going to do after...
I am going to take a couple weeks off...
Then I am going to get a part-time job until the VA gets back to me about my disability, then I will figure out what I want to do for my next job.

I retired from the Navy two years ago, 20 yrs and 1 day. I just couldn't do an IA deployment in Kabul again. Anyway still had to pay the bills, so I am glad I was able to get my degree and find a great job. Navy retirement check plus my regular check, cha-ching! One thing to remember, transition is tough for some people. Good luck and always remember Surface Navy rules, all others can just kiss my wake.

Any GS positions available where your at? Man thats the route to go if you could land one, what other jobs lets you "transfer" prior years of service to another. My wife is going to get into the GS field and looks like she's got a nice shot at a GS-12 position, sweet deal if you can land one worth the pay.

As a retiree, you can not transfer prior years of service. Only if you get out before 20 can you do that unfortunately.

Thanks Purp, however, I much rather be a brown-shoe than a black-shoe wearin' "boat C.H.U.D."

Air Farce huh? This is the last time i am going to talk to a bunch of seamen. If it wasn't for the USAF, the military would lack the brain power to get anything done. The Air Force is the brains and all the other services pray each night that they have the intelligent men and women of the Air Force doing all the thinking.

I know numerous people who retired 20 years or after and are in GS positions with there years of service. I wonder if it's a career field issue, because the people I know were all paper pushers.

I fixed it for ya

No, you can get a GS job sure, but I guarantee you, you can not transfer your years of service (as a retiree) no matter the career field or service. They even emphasize that point during SEPS/TAPS classes.
