LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Actor Brad Renfro, whose career began promisingly with a childhood role in "The Client" but rapidly faded as he struggled with drugs and alcohol, was found dead Tuesday in his home. He was 25.

Actor Brad Renfro served 10 days in jail in 2006 after pleading guilty to attempted possession of heroin.

1 of 2 Paramedics pronounced him dead at 9 a.m., said Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The cause of death was not immediately determined, Harvey said, but an autopsy could be conducted as early as Wednesday.

Renfro had reportedly been drinking with friends the evening before his death, Harvey said.

Renfro's lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said he did not know whether the death was connected to any problems with addiction.

"He was working hard on his sobriety," Kaplan said. "He was doing well. He was a nice person."

The actor served 10 days in jail in May 2006 after pleading no contest to driving while intoxicated and guilty to attempted possession of heroin.

The latter charge stemmed from his arrest in Los Angeles' Skid Row area, when he attempted to buy heroin from an undercover officer in 2005.

For several years he was better known for that drug bust and the resulting criminal case than for acting.

After one court appearance, he talked to reporters about drug rehabilitation, saying he was "tired of paying the consequences" for drinking and drug use and eager to get clean.

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Renfro's film career began when he was 12, acting opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones in "The Client." His other credits include "Sleepers," "Deuces Wild," "Apt Pupil" and "The Jacket."

I was wondering wtf "attempted possession" was..

I feel bad laughing in a thread about a guy dying, but that comment just made me crack up.

How can someone say this guy was working hard on his sobriety but yet it was reported that he was drinking with friends the night before?

20 bucks says he overdosed. Hard to feel bad when it sounds like he did this to himself.

Don't know him or much of his work, though I recognize the face. Either way, it's sad... addiction is a cruel bitch.

Wow even with the list, he must have went to the Heather Locklear school of acting, I don't recognize anything he's worked in.

Really?? The Client, Sleepers and Apt Pupil were pretty big movies at the time.

He was ok but all of his best roles were hilbilly troubled kids.....looks like he wasn't acting and he was just playing himself all along. It's sad, too many young actors have drug problems.

He is the neighbor boy in Apt Pupil right? That sucks, but it's becoming pretty common.

Might have caught parts of the client, but after that the other movies I don't recall. Sometimes it's like that with these kid actors, just like the kid who was in the deniro movie A Brooklyn story, he's in jail pending trail for murder of a NYPD officer. Dana Plato is another. It's seems like allot of child actors have issues.

I gave the wrong movie title it's A Bronx tale and his name is Lillo Brancato

Looked it up, I didn't think I had the title right to begin with, he is the same kid your thinking of.

Says in that list he played Todd Bowden, who was the evil little Nazi-obsessed teenager. It's a Stephen King novella (and really good, I haven't seen the movie).

Thats what I thought. It's a decent movie and I am interested in WWII so I checked it out but it's not great.

Has anyone seen "Deuces Wild"? I have heard from a couple of people that it is a good flick. I see he was in that as well.

I am still so sad about this news. I loved him as an actor... I remember seeing him in The Client and thinking, this kid is gonna go places. Then he got mixed up with the wrong people and the wrong stuff... it seems lately once that happens it's too late.

RIP Brad.

Quite sad.

"The Client" was a good movie and I remember it quite well.

"Apt Pupil" was a very good movie as well and it is sad looking back and knowing that this is how his life ended.

Such is the way when you get into the glitzy life of Hollywood and are exposed to drugs, alcohol, and women. Too many young men and women die from this. It's quite sad.

drugs, alcohol, and women are fine as long as you develop some discipline.

Self-control is important.

I didn't mean it like that. I do love me some alcohol.

I meant the money. The money allows them access to an alternative lifestyle that isn't productive. In this day and age it is quite common to see some star get coked out and all that.

I'm sure if she continues on the path she's going, likely, her lifeless body will also be found. Sad to see such tragedy and illness in these young stars.

Its been reprted that Spears issues are mostly psychological. its believed shes bipolar or possibly has multiple personalities. she needs treatment or she may end up like Renfro (if it was drugs)

Is it really all that sad ? I mean these folks have every chance to realize that they are living a cushy life . They can always quit acting and work for a living. I 'm sorry but O.D. ing isn't sad to me , cancer in kids is sad . Losing a pet is sad but these dolts do this to themselves so I can't really work up a good bit of pity for them . I realize that everyone from every walk of life has thier own troubles and thier own way of coping and some just don't see the way out .

I certainly can see that side of it but still when you think of all of the advantages they have over the skid row bum and all of the avenues of treatment that are available to them it is kinda hard to relate .

I don't think money and fame help people who have all those internal demons. They harbor the same emptiness and sadness that poor people with the same feelings do. They just have easier access to the stuff that ultimately does them in.
