I can't contribute much here, because I just don't know enough about the topic.

I really don't know how much DA is worth to the Browns.
I really don't know how much DA is worth to other teams.
I really don't know how much DA's agents think he is worth.

I do know that it would be wisest for the Browns to keep DA and let him and BQ battle it out. I think choosing the right QB is WAY more important than getting a return on someone we picked up off of waivers. *L*

I also think a three year deal [do you remember me saying that I wanted a 3 year deal in our PM awhile back?] is very smart. It's long enough to allow the competition and evaluation of the QBs to play out, but it is not so long that we slight BQ's confidence.

If I am BQ, and they sign DA to a 3 year contract, then I am thinking they are not sure about either of us and I better bust my ass to win the job.

If they sign DA to a 5 to 7 year contract, then I might be thinking that they have already made their choice, and it ain't me.

If they tender DA, then I am thinking the job is mine.

From the perspective of both the Browns and BQ...........scenario 1 is the best.

Again.........I don't know crappola about the money.....the trades........the value, etc......but I think I know something about what would be best for the team. A three year contract would be wonderful. Let the QBs win the job on the field and in meetings and film study. In my mind, that is preferable to winning it on talk radio, in newspapers, and on message boards.


One more thing............and this isn't to either you or Toad. Amazing how many people were guaranteeing DA would be tendered so we could get rid of him and are now saying a 3 year deal will make him easier to trade. *L*

Sometimes, it appears as though logic is dictated by hope rather than reason.

i think you brought up a good point about the trade possibilities going down once he is signed to a three year deal. Obviously, not only for this year, but down the line as well. That signing bonus will be accelerated on the cap making it a financial hit to trade him. I hope its more of a roster bonus then a signing bonus.

I was commenting on the use of stats from Manning's first year.

He had Faulk. He also had Harrison coming into the famed "lightswitch" third season (although for Harrison the light came on in year four).

His other recievers were absolute garbage.

His line featured Tarik Glenn and Adam Meadows in their second season, a 32 year old about to retire Tony Mandarich...at one point in the season they had THREE rooks starting on the line.

Off topic slightly, but their defense made ours look decent.

Peyton had crap to work with, Anderson had an arsenal...apples and oranges comparison.
