Hope the got Batman all wrapped up...

TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."

The NY Times is reporting a masseuse arrived at his apartment and was let in the door by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they found pills near body.

We're told when paramedics responded the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Story developing...

Here's a little bit more info:

Heath Ledger found dead in NYC apartment
28-year-old actor was nominated for Oscar for ‘Brokeback Mountain’

Breaking news
MSNBC News Services
updated 3 minutes ago
NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.

According to WNBC, Ledger was found with pills strewn all around him.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper, who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, found him unconscious at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET, according to the New York Times. After receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, they called authorities.

The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for “Brokeback Mountain,” where he met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year.

Ledger was to appear as the Joker this year in “The Dark Night,” a sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins.” He’s had starring roles in “A Knight’s Tale” and “The Patriot,” and played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in “Monster’s Ball.”

Ledger grew up in Perth, and began doing amateur theater at age 10. At 16, he moved to Sydney to pursue an acting career, quickly landing TV movie roles and guest spots on Australian television.

After several independent films and a starring role in the short-lived Fox TV series “Roar,” Ledger moved to Los Angeles and costarred in “10 Things I Hate About You,” a teen comedy reworking of “The Taming of the Shrew.”

Offers for other teen flicks came his way, but Ledger turned them down, preferring to remain idle than sign on for projects he didn’t like.

“It wasn’t a hard decision for me,” Ledger told the Associated Press in 2001. “It was hard for everyone else around me to understand. Agents were like, ‘You’re crazy,’ my parents were like, ‘Come on, you have to eat.”’

His latest role was in “I’m Not There,” in which he played one of the many incarnations of Bob Dylan — as did Cate Blanchett, whose performance in that film earned an Oscar nomination Tuesday for best supporting actress.

They're saying he was found with pills all around him. I can't imagine what else it would be, though I'm not going to jump to conclusions.

Wonder what this means for Batman - Dark Knight.

If not done shooting, find a double? Start fresh with new actor? Scrap the whole movie?

If I remember right, when Brandon Lee was shot and killed on set, it was the last segment of the movie to be filmed, so they went on with the movie.

Regardless, RIP Heath.

I'm sure they will figure something out.
Chris Farley died during "Almost Heros". It sadly wasn't a hit, but I always liked it. And it all seemed to come together nicely, concidering what happened.

I believe they'd finished the movie already as of late last year but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's done filming.

I see youtube took down that 8-minute Joker trailer - the bank robbery. Looked to find it today and it was gone.

I can't believe he's dead. I really liked Heath a lot and have been following his career since I was in High School. Back when he did 10 Things I Hate About You. I know they finished Dark Knight. But he's been working on a new movie. I don't remember the name of it. It's an odd name it's something to do with a Doctor. I know "Doctor" is in the title of it. It's a wierd name. But anyway - RIP Heath

According to imdb, Dark Knight is in post-production. The movie you were speaking of is: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and that is currently listed as being filmed now.

Heath Ledger was photographed in London on Saturday on the set of his latest movie, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." The movie, directed by Terry Gilliam, was due to be released next year.

Heath Ledger recently gave an interview to WJW FOX in Cleveland where he said, "I feel good about dying because I feel alive through her." He was talking about his young daughter Matilda.

I'd be willing to bet what took a bigger toll was the break up his relationship with his wife/baby mama. Then again, it isn't for sure that this is a suicide (though it does give the appearance of that).

Not sure what you are trying to say. I loved Brokeback Mountain. Is there some evidence that that role had an affect on him?

The things you and I go though is the same stuff that happens to celebrities. The only difference is our dirty laundry isn't aired all over the world..... that kind of publicity just makes life harder (I would assume)
I'm sure all the rumors and invasion of privacy gets embarrassing and overwhelming.... certain people just find different ways to cope, and sadly some people just can't deal with it.

This was an opinion of mine....There are things we do in life that can put a burden that may be to hard to carry.....

I watched that movie....and let me tell ya....I took a crap load of criticism for admitting watching it.....

To me I could care less what people thought about me watching the movie.....

But ...I also did not go on the big screen playing a part that may have been more...than most people could just accept.....

I was pondering the thought...if after the movie was made....If he could handle the fact that he`s seen all over...making out with another man...Being a straight man it could cause some emotional problems...now that is only my opinion...

But lets not make this into a sexual preference debate...okay........

The theory is plausible, but I hope he could separate life from work. You don't see Hopkins offing himself because of the Hanibal movies. Charlize played a lesbian serial killer. Idk, I'm not saying your wrong I would just hope that isn't the case.

Heath did start suffering from insomnia during TDK.... so it's not completely out of line to think that the role had a part in his death... Considering that the joker is considered "demonic" and he had to literaly act psychotic.

This is truly sad news... the guy was just about to make himself a GOAT and then out of nowhere, Boom. Blindsided by a freight train. These things show how fragile life is... how mortal we really are. Someone who has all the potential in the world and, then it gets squashed by some bad choices.
