Three Little Pigs book 'offends Muslims'

A children's book based on the classic tale of the Three Little Pigs has been rejected for an award amid fears it could offend Muslims.

Judges for the Bett Awards criticised the animated virtual book, The Three Little Cowboy Builders, saying its use of pigs as the main characters raised "cultural issues".

They also believed the book could offend builders.

"Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs," the judges wrote.

"The idea of taking a traditional tale and retelling a story is fine, but it should not alienate parts of the workforce.

"Judges would not recommend this product to the Muslim community in particular."

Ann Curtis, whose company Shoo Fly Publishing produced the book, branded the judges' criticisms unjustified.

"I felt disbelief, to be honest," she told The Times newspaper.

"As a small company we have a strong ethical and moral grounding.

"To be told that we cynically set out to alienate minority groups is a very narrow-minded view."

I'm gettting so damn sick and tired of PC. So sick of "well, we shouldn't do this, OR that, cause it might offend that group, or this group"......Hell, we may as well not do a thing in our life because it might offend someone.

You have the damn right to be offended. And when you have the damn right to not be a part of it, you do NOT have the damn right to dictate to others what they can or can't do with their damn rights.

The judges forgot to mention how offended real "cowboys" would be as well. Apparently, they are behind the PC times. Cowboys are referring to themselves as "bovine persons" these days. Sheesh. Get with program morons!

seriously? the three little pigs is offensive? I cant handle this stuff. I'm studying to be a teacher, and I dunno how I could read any books. They could all offend someone.

I don't see this as some losers trying to make sure they don't offend a segment of society.......I see it as they're trying to protect themselves from getting sued. Which may sound way over the top but people sue for EVERYTHING.

Other than that I say, "meh".

I think everyone should remember this is from Australia, not the US. It doesn't make it right, just that it is not happening here. At least not yet.

California, Massachusetts, Connecticut....if it isn't happening yet, it WILL be.

I think it's about time they cracked down on this story.

Next they need to take on Goldylocks! It teaches that breaking and entering and burglary is OK!!!

What the hell ever happened to,, if it's on the radio and offends you, turn it off.. or if it's on TV and it offends you,, turn it off,, or if it's in a book and it offends you, stop reading.

Why should the masses have to conform. What happened to the America where what was good for the majority was what we did and how we lived.. when did special interests suddenly creep into the very fabric of our lives.

Why the hell should we care what Muslims think of a book about Builders or Pigs or Cowboys or whatever..

Yes, I'm sure construction workers all around the world are happy that the public is being spared this logical thought sequence.. after all, construction workers do tend to be a thin skinned easily offended group.

Many of the construction workers I know (and that's a lot) would not be offended at all by being called pigs... but the part about insulting their work would tick them off.

I've said for a long time that the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer should be banned.

Think about it, everybody hated him for having a red nose, even his own dad...even Santa! It wasn't until they found out that he could guide the sleigh until everyone started accepting him.

I think they're discriminating against red noses....now, who do I write a letter to?

I like pigs. They can be friendly, they're funny looking and they have good meat on 'em once they're dead.

O.K. pigs are not friendly at all. In fact they are vicious and mean . Don't believe me , go into a hog pen with a big boar around meal time but be careful that you don't become the meal .I never understood how they got to be percieved as cuddly,nice creatures. They are tasty as bacon though .

What kind of pigs do you have where you live?
I grew up on a farm - mostly dormant by the time I was born - but we had pigs... very friendly. Almost didn't want to slaughter some of them.
Scared of pigs.... sorry Ire45 but...

Pigs are very intelligent and sweet. I'm not saying they can't be mean when you stick them in confined places with hundreds of them....all animals, including humans, can get pretty awful in those kinds of conditions.

Scared ? No but I do have a healthy repect for them after I saw them bite off my Uncles finger . Miserable creatures those things are . Mean spirited garbage disposals who will eat ANYTHING . Demonic swine .

Oh my lord....what a sick thing that must have been to witness. And to go through something like that...ugh.

We joke about it now that the hog was just exacting a little bit of justice for what was about to happen to him and my uncle claims it was a fair bit of business because after all he did eat the pig. Honestly hogs are very smart animals and can be quite nice but they are disgusting animals , we call them the Barbarians of the Barnyard.
