Let me ask you all something about our "awful" QB..............
And who is it that said he was "awfull"?
Nobody............................
Unless of course you're claiming he "has no weaknesses"?
Unless you feel being 28th in the league in accuracy makes him "stellar"?
Do you feel he has "good footwork" Vers?
See, you don't "address the questions". Instead, you label those who "disagree as haters" and refuse to actually break down DA's game. His "strengths and weaknesses". That wouldn't fit your M.O. on "this subject".
Quote:
how did he get to the Pro Bowl if he was as bad as some of you claim he is?
Pretty simple Vers. Just like every year. Are you saying KW2 was "worse last year"? No, you're not. Then why did KW2 make the pro bowl "this year" and not "last year"? Because it's a "popularity contest". You know this as well as anybody and better than most.
BTW- How did DA stack up in that game compared to other "pro bowlers"?
Quote:
How many Pro Bowl QBs have we seen here in Cleveland? Timid? Kelly? Garcia? McCown? Frye? Brady Quinn?
Garcia was a "pro bowl QB" when he came here. But you see, a "bad team" can make a "good QB look bad". Just as easily as a "good team" can make a "mediocre QB look better". It's not rocket science.

One more thing............his Pro Bowl performance hurt his value?
Any time you have the national stage and look like CRAP when compared to your counteparts? It sure doesn't HELP!

Why do you put words in my mouth?
Don't bother.........I already know the answer. Just pointing it out so everyone doesn't assume I said those things just because they were written.

I understand what you are saying, and I don't entirely agree with you either.
I think that Jr and the Browns FO do laugh at TG, but not as much as they would like. If the fans could ever figure out that TG don't know crap, and a lot of the times he is no better then the average fan at figuring out what is going on, that would be a huge improvement from a fan point of view.
I think that in a round about way TG has far reaching influence on the Browns. He stirs up the fan base, and then the fan base stirs up the team, and then heads roll. Now I can't prove it, but it's my opinion that it does and has happened. I could point out specifics but that would just lead to further debate, and I'm not up to it on this subject.
I said what I said, I stand by it. It's my opinion based on what I have seen over many many years. And I still say TG don't know crap about football and is the leader of the clueless fan who hasn't been able to figure out that he don't know crap.. I wished the PD would fire his ass, and at least get someone that knows a bit about what their talking about, and reports the truth. And when they offer their opinion they clearly state that it's their opinion, and don't dress it up to look like fact, or that they have a perfect crystal ball that is never wrong.
Lets put it this way if TG ever wrote an article that covered all the opinion he has offered over the years, and then we could all go back and look we would all soon conclude TG is clueless. How soon we forget to remember, what he has offered up over the years, and how wrong he has been a lot of the time...

I'd lay odds that they do laugh at him, but kinda like what you are saying, Grossi's comments probably at times infuriate them as well.. Mostly, as you say, because he gets the fan base all worked up with his nonsense..
I suppose it's true that if the fan base gets worked up enough, the owner or GM or Coach may feel the need to make one move or the other..
But I would hope it doesn't cause them to make knee jerk reactions.
I mean, to hear it after the first Pittsburgh game, the fans wanted RAC's head on a platter.. had Lerner and Savage succumbed to that, it would have meant disaster.
Anyway, yeah, I see your point about working up the fan base to a frenzy and that causing the FO to do things it might not otherwise do.. It's disgusting to think, even for a moment that it's true, but it very well could be.

I have been reading your DA replies... You have made your points, stated them well, clearly and have been consistent. IMO. You have also chosen to see, reply, and post, focuses on the drawbacks, and areas of improvement and weaknesses of DA. This is understandable. We all have areas to improve in... Some here don't want to realize, or can't or just will not see the whole picture on any issue... Your continual negative DA "efforting" has many flaws, errors and is only a partial view of the entire DA picture. It can and has been presented here that there are more positives compared to negatives on the DA Ben Franklin. Many here can throw more stats and make viable comments that support and show that he has more positives than negatives. But why??? That is just more useless and endless rhetoric... I have considered you a very knowledgeable, credible, reliable and high quality member here for many years. I don't not on this issue. You clearly have something stuck in your craw and or need a cold shower on this topic. IMO. I'm not a huge DA supporter... Never have been... I've clearly stated my views, facts and opinions about DA here. Since the day the Browns signed him. And have continued to do so... After last year it's clear I was wrong yet again. Living where I live and with my base of friends that are Beaver fans, I watched DA through out college and his pro career. And followed him through my friendships. I still fear that the maybe real, old DA will/to please stand up... So do a lot of his long time fans. We all saw times where he played poorly... Most young QB's without much experience do. We saw more occasions where he played and lead very well. You can continue to focus mostly on what DA does poorly... That doesn't make you more correct than anyone else about him. Your attitude and narrow mindedness doesn't make your position on DA more correct than others here either. Although you seem to think it does... People need on work on their areas of improvement. But people don't get better, improve by not working on what they do well/best most of the time. Improving on what they do well, nets the most desirable, measurable results. That’s what DA needs to do... And us too... There is always more than one way to see or do anything… Just because someone continues to keep saying or doing something doesn’t make it fact or correct… Just ask GWBjr.

Boise,,, are you ok,, Just wondering
Relax Pit,, I'm having fun at your expense again...
One thing I will say,, I do NOT disagree that DA has issues.. you would have to be pretty blind not to notice them.
The differences between some of us is that, some think that with time and practice and maturity, he will improve on those things he does poorly today.
And, frankly some don't see a chance in hell that he will improve on those things..
All the stats and rhetoric won't build a bridge over that divide. It's just a matter of opinion..
For what it's worth, either side might end up being right.. Only time will tell. NOTHING will get settled on this board or any other message board...

You're right; we don't know. What if they don't think he is ready? Does that effect what we do w/DA? What if we do feel he is ready? Then, do we try and move DA this year? And what if they aren't sure? Wouldn't you keep DA under those circumstances? Two of the three scenarios favor keeping DA. That doesn't mean much, but I would think they better be damn sure before they move DA.
your right in everything but your final totals ...
1. if BQ is deemed not ready (witch IMO he is MORE THAN READY and better than DA today .... ) ... we need to keep DA .. no matter what were offered ...
2. if BQ is ready DA should be gone if THE PRICE IS RIGHT ....
3. if were not sure .. then again .. DA should be gone IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT ... obviously the price would be much higher in scenario 3 than 2 ...

I understand that, Diam. But why make those comments in Marboro......at a freaking chapel? Do you know the size of Marboro? It's tiny. It is very rural. I wonder how many reporters were there? One perhaps
well all it takes is one ... and hemayas well have said it on a national stage as its all over everywhere now ..
my point .. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE WHERE HE SAYS IT .... and actually my point is WHATS THE DIFFERENCE WHAT HE SAYS .... TALK IS CHEAP ... always has been, always will be ...
we'll see what he does ... and quite frankly when the deal gets done some will say "see, I told U Opie didnt want him" .. and that will be BS .. all that will mean is they couldnt come to a MUTUALLY BENIFICIAL DECISION ...
where he said it is irrelivent ... u pointing out it was in maroro or where ever the hell it was gives no more credence to your argument than others pointing out what he says ...
Quote:
I don't see how his value decreases much by keeping him around. Especially if he doesn't start. It's not like he got worse. We could still trade him later.
Come on bro .. u really don't believe that .. do u??? his value will go down a quite a bit ... for many many reasons ...
1. he would no longer be the starter .. no way a back up has as much value as a starter .. NO WAY ...
2. he won't have played in an entire year ... please don't tell me that won't decrease his value ...
I'll get to the rest later ... I gotta run right now ..

OK .. I'm back ... Quote:
Bro, I think it is in the best interest of the team to keep both QBs for now. Let the situation play out. I understand that you have no doubts about Quinn. Hopefully, you can understand why I do have doubts.
I completely understand why U have doubts ... and in 2 or 3 years U won't have them ..
Quote:
The Scott Mitchell comments trouble me though. I know you didn't make them, but I am just putting them in here, because I don't feel like making another post.
No, i didnt make them ... but I felt it since about week 4 .. there is alot of similiraties between DA and Mitchell and AJ Feely ...
I am sure it does bother U but that doesnt make them not a very realistic possibility ...
Quote:
Why are people only looking at the negative side? What if he turns into a Brady? I know I will get ripped for this, but I see similarities in the two. I certainly see DA more of a Brady than a Farve, as has been mentioned before.
I really don't think DA will be a Brady, but it is just as reasonable as the claim that he will be another Scott Mitchell.
the truth is that I am sure DA will end up somewhere in between Brady and Mitchell .. but IMO it will be alot closer to Mitchell than Brady ... and thats just my opinion ...
I had major questions about DA coming into the season .. and he played much better than i ever thought he could .. but he didnt answer any of the questions in a positive manner ...
he was innacuratte and made bad decisions ... he is and always will be immobile ...
Quote:
The other comment that was made that bothers me is that BQ has "it," because the fans got excited when he came in. Bro, you can back me up on this.......what the fans think means very little to any coach. It might mean something to certain people in the FO and the owner, but no coach gives a rat's butt about how much the fans want a QB to be good.
what the fans think means DIDDLY to A COACH or a FO .. I've said this for years .. if a coach or FO takes into consideration what the fans think on player decisions .. there going to FAIL ... its that simple ...
I agree with U 100% here ....
Quote:
Here's what I would do. I would keep both QBs. I would let them compete and start the best man. I would not move either QB before the end of the season. I would prefer keeping both for at least two to three years, although that may not be possible. I want the future of the Browns to go to the best QB. And we really don't know who that is yet. I agree w/Savage when he said that they would like to prolong the situation as long as possible. That is being smart.
U will be a happy camper at least for the 08 season ... DA is going no where ... I have said the same thing since week 4 ..
1. DA signs the tender .... 2. No one gives us enough to make it worth it for us to trade him ..
so he ends up here for 08 ... after that he prolly leaves in FA as we won't put a tag on him ...
and bro .. WHEN BQ beats him out in camp .. many posters will be scrutinizing everything he does just like they would with BQ .. as a matter of fact ... it will be alot of the same posters scrutinizing everything DA does .. its what they do and al they know how to do ..
accept it bro .. your not going to educate folks that dont want to learn ..

Can you say Atlanta Falcons? lol IMHO, they let their starter get away last season and may not want to use a high 1st pick on a rookie with a poor OL. DA is a Pro-Bowl QB now and may be inticing to a team that needs an off-season splash at QB. Go Brownies!!!!

Hey bro.........wasn't ignoring you....... Just tired of arguing about DA's merits---or lack thereof. The outrageous comments have died down somewhat, so I can take a much-needed break. Diam, I don't know how it will play out and I will feel no satisfaction if Savage inks DA, or guilt if he is sent packing. I only know what I would hope to do and that it isn't the slam dunk case that many posters were making just a month ago. You and I disagree about a few things, but like you said in a post to someone else.....we probably see the situation a lot closer that it appears. As far as people blasting BQ if and when he gets the job...........Yeah, some will. That's what they do. There will also be another crowd....the one that has an excuse for every mistake he makes. I'll be in the camp that he needs time to develop, but I doubt if I let lame excuses fly by---provided they become common place. And bro.......I do understand that some people don't wanna learn. I do find that odd though. I feel that I do know a few things about football, but I love when another poster can teach me more. It's invigorating. I know you like to learn too. On that note..............try reading some of BatDawg's posts. He's pretty good. Django is pretty good too. They know quite a bit about the draft.......an area I am becoming weaker and weaker at. We need more posters like those guys on here.

Here's what I feel is "the bottom line" on all of this............. Everybody keeps talking about how much "DA will improve". Problem being, his "feet" won't get any better. He's not suddenly going to "become a scrambler". At 24, your accuracy is "not likely" to get much, if ANY better. And I'm not saying DA "didn't improve". But here's "the sad part". People kept clammoring that "any QB will look better if you GET AN OL AND A RUNNING GAME!"Those people were right when they said that! Yet those very same people have developed amnesia! I don't begrudge DA of having "some measure of success". But how much was due to "DA himself" verses the "overall O" is where I have an issue. IMO- Had DA NOT had a solid pocket and a running game, he would have looked JUST LIKE the DA of last year. I think the "rumored contract offer" of three years and under 15 mil. is about right. It shows the value he has to the Browns and it's just about exactly where I thought it would be.

Ahh, when it comes right down to it Pit,, I trust Savage. I can't say I always did, but for reasons that are clear, I do now. If he works a deal that keeps DA here for the long hall, thats fine. I don't think it neccessarly means what it implies. I think it could mean several things. Savage and the FO think that DA is the real deal or it could also mean, that with him under contract, he'll be easier to trade.. I have no idea for sure which.. As for the offer they reportedly gave him, I can't put too much thought into it. It could be as you say, what Savage and the Browns feel DA is worth, or it could have been as innocent as a starting point from which talks could begin.. Afterall,, someone has to start it off. It may have been nothing more than the opening volley! (it's funny, if it's the opening volley as I suspect it could be, how the media suddenly runs it up to DA and his agent want Romo money ) What ever Savage does, may not be right, but I'm confident in two things.. 1. he's doing it because he believes it's right.,, No other agenda 2. if it turns out bad, he'll work his butt off to fix it. Probably why I like the guy.

j/c Excerpt from Scott Wright at NFL Draft Countdown February 14th, 2008 • Baltimore needs to trade for Derek Anderson. With an aging defense the Ravens are clearly a team built to win now and their window is closing fast. Despite that 5-11 record in 2007 Baltimore really isn't that bad of a team and with even average play from the quarterback position they would be legitimate playoff contenders. It is pretty clear that there is no chance of Boston College's Matt Ryan falling into their laps at #8 overall so why reach for a guy like Brian Brohm when for about the same money contract-wise you can get a semi-proven commodity? Now Donovan McNabb would do the trick too but I think Anderson would be a better fit for Baltimore because he is much younger. The ironic thing here is that Anderson was once property of the Ravens (they selected him in the 6th round of the 2005 NFL Draft) but they released him. From a public relations standpoint it won't look good to trade a package of valuable draft picks for a guy you just gave away for nothing a couple of years ago but they can't let that enter their thought process. They need to just bite the bullet and do it. I am not sold on Anderson repeating the fantastic season he just had which is why I think it's in Cleveland's best interests to strike while the iron is hot and deal him now but at the same time you do not get many chances to land a 24-year-old starting quarterback coming off a Pro Bowl season so if I am the Ravens I'll take that risk. I wouldn't give up that Top 10 pick for him but a package similar to what the Texans gave Atlanta for Matt Schaub last year (two 2nd round picks and change) sounds realistic and fair for both sides. It's time to get it done Ravens!
Is buttcheeks one word? Or should I spread them apart?

I'm pretty much with you there Damon. Actually, I've agreed with the vast majority of Savages moves. Early on, I did disagree with some posters on "the intent" of some of those moves, but I felt that Savage had "a five year plan" much as he claimed he did. So many of his moves, IMO, were short term fixes in the beginning. Like acquiring Shaffer as our LT. Many felt confident that "Savage had found his LT". While my belief was that Shafer was a "temporary fix" at LT and his skill set made him a more desireable RT. And I had every reason to feel that Savage would "draft a franchise LT". I also felt that you "put the horse before the cart". You get your franchise LT BEFORE you get your "franchise QB". But when you commit a first round pick, or a first AND second round pick to acquire a draft pick, "you have a plan in mind". And I trust, just as in the past and present (in the case of JT), that his plan and talent evaluations will also present us with our franchise QB. Now if I didn't "trust Savage's judgement" and did not support him in that department, it would be to my advantage to see BQ as a "wasted pick we really didn't *need* to make". But I don't see it that way at all. Not speaking of you here, but I can see how the "Savage detractors" would pimp, hope and pray that DA win out the QB job and BQ would flop. It would only give them ammunition against Phil wouldn't it? I would really hate to see that happen and doubt seriously that it will. JMHO

NICE!!! I like your bottom line... DA can move, escape, buy time and run... He just doesn't throw very well while or after doing those things... DA can and will improve with PT... IMO, how much he can & will improve is the big ? If a QB doesn't have protection they have to be able to throw on the run and under duress... DA hasn't shown he can do this... His accuracy can improve. It will be a constant battle for him. Again how much and will it is another bottom line question. Many QB's can and will have success with a solid running game and pass protection. It's like shooting fish in the barrel. So I think you are right on with the how much is actually DA thinking... But DA had to make every decision, play and throw he made... I made the statement here that DA should take the contract @ the #'s offered, you mentioned here... If I was him I would have signed it within a week or so... Thats just me... I would have asked for options for re-negotiations over the next couple of years if I was DA... If no other better offers come maybe DA will, if that offer is still being discussed or on the table. I still contend that having what seems to be two young, solid QB's with solid value is a very good situation to be in... Personally my only hesitation in signing the initial offer would be I rearely accept any first offer... Take care man and keep them coming here...

If one would use what the Texans gave Atlanta as a yardstick for Anderson's worth, then Clevelnad should in no way settle for the same value. Anderson right now is a much more proven commodity than Schuab was at the time he was dealt. As the writer states, Ansderson is a Pro Bowl QB. Schuab was not even close.

I seem to remember Ozzie saying that thier intent was to resign DA to the practice squad, but that Savage got him and put him on the active roster of the Browns..
So technically, it's correct to say they released him, but in the spirit of what was intended, I think you will find that statement lacking the true and total picture.
And because of that, I think any good PR guy could make it sound a lot better than this reporter makes is sound. I'm no PR guy, but try this:
*****What follows in a FAKE public announcment******
"Today the Ravens have acquired QB Derek Anderson from the Browns in exchange for the 1st and 3rd round picks in the upcoming draft.
Anderson who threw for 3700 yards, 29 TD's last year with the Browns, and who also beat the Ravens twice, was originally a 6th round pick of the Ravens.
VP and GM Ozzie Newsome said in a statement that thier desire was to retain Anderson and place him on the Practice squad. But in order to do that, the player first has to be released. During that moment, former Raven Asst GM, Phil Savage, now with the Browns, snatched Anderson up and placed him on the Browns Active Roster."
See, it would be a breeze to fix the PR issue.. No problem whatsoever!

Pit, I was not so worried about the Shaffer pickup... I think the reasons for it were pretty clear.. There weren't a lot of choices available so it was Shaffer, resign shelton or get a lot of bandaides for whatever QB started.. I see why he did that now. The things I didn't think were good were signing Coleman and Andruzzi.. I admit that it being his first year as the GM, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt so I backed the moves... (Privately, it was a reluctant backing) And as things turned out, when healthy, they weren't the worst we've ever had... But seeing how Stieny and the combo of McKinney and Tucker played the Guard spots.... wow, what a difference. Quote:
Not speaking of you here, but I can see how the "Savage detractors" would pimp, hope and pray that DA win out the QB job and BQ would flop. It would only give them ammunition against Phil wouldn't it?
Small minds are the ones that would think that way..
It's almost stupid to say this again, but I honestly don't care who our QB is....I just wanna win games. Whoever is best equipped to take us there, that's who I want.. PERIOD.
I used to pimp players.. I just don't care enough anymore to worry about it. I just wanna win.

In this scenario, Phil grabs a player released by his former employer and current division rival. A plyer just drafted by that team, who they intended to put on their practice squad. Phil's new team then rides this guy to the brink of the playoffs, where he nearly sets a few team records, beats that former team twice and makes it to the Pro Bowl. Phil then turns the player back to his original team for two first day picks.
That would have to become one of the legends that is spoken of in league meetings for generations.

I'm not touching this definitive deadbate regarding Anderson. The only real story now is what it'll take to get him signed, or what it'll take to get Savage to deal him. Having said that:

The bottom line here is that the Ravens tried to get sneaky. They tried to sneak him through waivers, only to have the Browns steal him. They gambled, they lost, and if they want him back, they'll have to pay through the nose.
There's no way to put a positive PR spin on that one.

It would be a worse PR move for the Ravens to have to explain why they stuck with their current crappy QBs by NOT making a move.
Anyway, I pretty much agree with those who say BQ is ready now and DA has probably maxed out. Look at his passer rating over the last half of the season. He's just not that good. I'd be thrilled with a 1st and 3rd round pick for him.

it would and frankly, I don't know what would be so hard about selling that to those fans of Baltimore..... I would think it to be an easy sell....

What would you call this fake release..
BEWARE,, FAKE PRESS RELEASE

Look, you are right, Savage pulled a fast one on Ozzie.. no question about it. But in the end, is the goal to win games?
With the QB's the Ravens have in house right now, the only guy that has a chance is Troy Smith.. and the jury is way out on him yet.. So Anderson is a major upgrade. Hard to deny that.
I understand that there will be fans that say.. what the heck,, we drafted him in the 6th round, and now we are giving up 2 first day picks for him... that's three picks to get this guy..
Certainly a valid point, if the rest of the article is accurate (I question that by the way) then that reporter thinks that the Ravens are a QB away from getting back to the big show..
IF that turns out to be what Ozzie thinks, then NOT getting a Derek Anderson or someone as good or better would be a HUGE mistake..
I still think it's an easy sell..
Of course, Ozzie could take a different tact and say,,, we are going to Draft a QB this year, develop him and then go for it all.. of course the flaw there is that unless they get someone that comes out of college and leads them to the Superbowl in the next two years, his defense will be in wheelchairs...

No way Miami would give up the 1st overall and a 3rd rounder for DA... just don't see that happening.

Like I said hard to believe but the truth is while we all have our opinions of Anderson we really don't know what other people around the league think of him.
I certainly wouldn't give up the #1 overall pick let alone the #1 overall pick and the 1st pick of rouns 3. Though I would love to see this happen.
Anyway, I saw it and thought I share it. Just for funsies.

I think DA is exactly the type of QB that Parcells loves. Big arm.......can make all the throws. Team guy. Not too flashy. He is a guy that can be molded by good coaching.
With that said.........I can't see them making that deal........unless, they trade down in round 1.

I can see Bill trying to make a trade for DA, but no way the #1 overall... I see him either trading out of the #1 spot and offering that 1st rounder or possibly offering a 2nd rounder for him...

How about trading to Dallas for their two first round picks and then trading the first and the third? I can dream, can't I?

The Dolphins have 2 picks in the second. I could see them offering those for DA. Not sure if it would be enough for Phil to part with him but I could easily see them making the offer.
I definitely don't see them offering him a contract knowing they would have to give up the first overall and the 1st pick in the 3rd. Of course maybe they would trade out of the pick and then make the deal.
I think DA is liked my many around the league more than some on this board like to believe. While he has some weaknesses he also has many positives. Age being one of them.
