WASHINGTON -- The Washington Redskins hired Jim Zorn as their coach Saturday night, a surprise ending to a month-long search for a replacement for Joe Gibbs.

Zorn's hiring was confirmed to ESPN.com's John Clayton on Saturday night by sources familiar with the situation.

Zorn will be introduced at a news conference at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to a person who was informed of the Redskins' decision. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had not been made.

Zorn, a former Seattle quarterback, has been the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach for the last seven years. The Redskins hired him to be their offensive coordinator on Jan. 26 while continuing their search for a head coach.

Does this mean in about a month he's gonna become the GM. Weird move, but we are talking about Daniel Snyder.

He was a so so QB if Largent wasn't around he wouldn't have the numbers he did, they would be worse, though he was a lefty and fun to watch.

Ahh, ok.... at least I was close
Zorn, Dorn... same difference.... he's not gonna be a good head coach

This guy went from QB coach to OC to HC in less than 30 days.... I would be absolutely shocked if the guy was able to make the transition in short enough time to keep Dan Snyder from firing him.

Daniel Snyder is ruining a great franchise...seriously? JIM ZORN?! Somehow, some way, Mike Singletary still is not a head coach in the NFL...

Probably just keeping the seat warm until Snyder makes a BIG run at Cowher in 09

Growing up, I always like Zorn. He was one of the first QB's that I really enjoyed watching. I didn't know the game well enough to know he pretty much was an inferior player, but I identified with him 'cause I'm left-handed, hehe. He had a decent three-year run in the early 80's. God only knows how much his numbers were inflated thanks to Steve Largent.

People may laugh at this, but Zorn is pretty-well thought of around the league. Having said that, nobody saw him coming as a head coaching candidate.

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

this hire came out of nowhere. But i guess nobody else really stepped up and wanted this job. Oakland and Washington are turning into two teams that nobody wants too touch.

Keeping the seat warm for Cowher- thats a possibility.

I wonder how Zorn feels about being Snydermans Second Choice..

Just a couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Spagnoli was the guy that Snyder had in mind and he was merely waiting until the Superbowl was over to get him in to talk..

Spags came out and said a few days ago that he's not interested, so Snyder makes Zorn his HC..

I'd say Snyder was Desparate...

I wish him the best of luck.. he's gonna need it.
