I was asked this in a 3 on 1 interview my senior year in college.
You have two dice. Each dice has six sides. You have to be able to put the two dice together to make any number from 1 thru 30. Numbers 1-9 will have to be preceded with a 0 such that every single number from 1 thru 30 can be made by placing the two sides of the dice next to each other.
What numbers go on each die?

You get 12 faces ... you'll need 1 and 2 twice for 22 and 11, so 0-9 and then 1 and 2 again are the numbers.
Just make sure 0, 1 and 2 are on one die, and the 2nd one and two are on another, and the order shouldn't matter for the rest of the numbers.

Under your scenario, you would not be able to make all of the single digit numbers.
Remember, numbers 1-9 have to be preceded with a 0...01, 02, 03, ....

WOOHOOO.....I have a perpetual calendar sitting on my desk. My boss gave it to me for Christmas and it answers your brainteaser quite well.
Die #1 : 0,1,2,6/9,7,8 6 being able to be used as a 6 or 9
Die #2: 0,1,2,3,4,5

Trying to think this out quickly. Zero through 5 on one die. The other die has a 1, 6, 11, 16,21, 25. Don't have time to double chack, need to take my son to school. Hope it is correct!

Cheater. Hey, I've got a new baby ... You could find the number of hours of sleep I've had this past week on a standard die.

Great atomic...way to ruin the thread by solving it so quickly... Just joking with you. Good job. I'll have to think of another one.

That was a good one. It took me a few minutes to see the trick with the numbers "9" and "6."

Sorry but I was sitting here looking at my perpetual calendar as I was reading that question and thought "Holy Crap, I can actually answer one of his brain teasers" . Worst part is I'm not completely awake yet.

Yeah, once you realize that 0, 1, and 2 have to be on both dice, it leaves six faces for 7 remaining numbers.
Using the 6 and 9 interchangeably solves that problem.

Actually Excl, on the non-standard perpetual calendar die I can tell you exactly how much sleep you get. It came up 00 every time I rolled.

Assume that penguins live with a density of 1,000 penguins per square mile and can run at an average speed of 7 miles per hour on land and swim at 20 miles per hour. Also assume that a polar bear has a territory of 10 square miles, can run at 25 miles per hour and swim at 10 miles per hour, how many penguins will an average polar bear eat in any given month, remembering that a polar bear could, as a maximum, only eat one penguin per hour and 7% of the land is next to the sea.

I take the die to the grinder and grind down 4 more sides into it, and number each die with 0-9.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Thanks Shep, I was racking my brain, trying to think of different land configurations, etc., when it struck me. The answer is zero. Penguins live at the south pole, and polar bears at the north pole. I gotta take some Tylenol now. Thanks Shep
