I was at the game Sunday - 3 rows behind the media table. It was sweet! Even got a tee shirt tossed my way. I made a Randy Moss type catch to intercept it from the row behind me.
THAT WAS YOU!!!! OMG! Dude that little girl you took the shirt from was only about 4 years old,..looked like she hurt her hand pretty badly from the shirt being yanked away from her like that.
Are you sure that was me? First, I'm not a dude and I didn't yank a shirt from a little girl. I reached up and caught it before it got to the row behind me. Actually, I don't even think there was a little girl sitting behind me, but honestly I didn't pay that close attention. I'd never hurt anyone to get a free shirt.

It's a little late to jump into the Lebron debate, but I don't think he's going anywhere. He makes way more money by marketing himself than from basketball, and seeing how he is the best player in the NBA right now ( and he will be for many years) it doesn't matter what team/city he plays for. Nike had him put out the Yankee shoe recently which is fine by me. Let those Yankee fans keep his pockets full so he can stay here. If he does leave than that's just the way it is. My only hope would be that we can sneak out a championship before he goes.

I think the problem that this trade leaves the Cavs with is matching up with bigger point guards, like Chauncey Billups. The quick guys West can stay with, but unless they are going to play Eric Snow at the point, West would get backed down too easily. That doesn't add in the fact that you are counting on Sasha matching up with Rip Hamilton as well. The post in Detroit doesn't quite scare me as much. I'll take Wallace on Wallace without a problem. Its not a dream match-up, but it will work. I'm just really concerned about a Billups-West/Gibson match-up. Hughes could take that, West really can't.
Sorry guys...Back on track...Thanks Vers...
Log...I really think Hughes's perimeter D is way over-hyped...Where was he against Parker for 4 straight???
Parker made us look silly...
If West can even just stay in Billup's face...Wallace will provide the help...We haven't had that...
Wish we had about another 5 cake games comin' up...Cause it was obvious the other night that these guys need time...
This could be good...
Go Browns!!!

To Larry's defense, he only played 20 minutes in games 1 and 2. Was injured - sat out 3 and 4.
Nothing could have stopped Parker in that series. He had it going.

I think you and I will continue to disagree about that.. I think money has a ton to do with it.. but I will agree that winning a championship will bring more of it to LBJ than NOT winning one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess we will disagree on that one...cause I don't think money has a thing to do with it.
I knew that I had read it somewhere that LBJ wanted to be the first NBA player to become a Billionaire but I'd be darned if I could find it.. here is a link to a thread on this site that talks about LBJ and Jay Z and in there is a line about him wanting to be a billionaire.
Like I said, this isn't the first time I've read something along those lines.. and just because a reporter reports it, doesn't make it so, but I think there is some smoke there and it could be that I'm more correct about the money issues that you are...
I could also be completely wrong... Thing is, neither of us knows.. but read it, it's an interesting article none the less..

Which is exactly why this trade is awesome for the Cavs! Larry could barely stay on the court...and when he was, he's shooting only 35%. Addition by subtraction.

Lebron wanting to become a billionaire, and him playing basketball...have NOTHING to do with each other, because he'll NEVER become a billionaire by just playing basketball, regardless of where he plays. If he wants to be a billionaire...great...he could give me a couple million and not miss it.
And this Jay-Z thing, is overblown. Jay-Z is encouraging Lebron to become a businessman...something that Jay-Z has done quite well for himself.
Lebron will be the best and most marketable player in the NBA, regardless of what uniform he wears...he can become a billionaire and still stay close to home.

No doubt PS. I've actually tuned into the last 2 Bulls games here in Chicago. Drew had a nasty dunk in Yao's face the other day.
I don't think I've stated my opinion on the trade. Here it is:
We gave up 2 average starters (a great guy in Gooden who couldn't get his head out of his butt on the defensive end) and Hughes (a guy that could not find his groove in Cleveland) and 4 other scrubs that should never see the floor on a playoff caliber team (Marshall, Shannon Brown, Ced Simmons and Ira Newble).
We got back 4 quality players that will contribute until their contracts run out - then we can choose to resign them. We haven't had a solid PG since Jeff McGinnis - and he was a head case. Now we have a guy that can run the pick & roll, pass great and hit an outside shot (West), a career shooter and an all star 2 years ago with a quick release and hometown guy (Wally), a 4 time defensive player of the year that will bring a presence inside we have never seen (Ben) and a solid role-model business like player with a good head that will put up numbers better than Drew Gooden (thats all he was good for - 10 pts and 8 boards) in Joe Smith.

I just don't see money as the determining factor if he leaves. Hell, he's got more money right now than he'll ever spend. Gilbert will give Lebron whatever he wants, so contract money isn't the issue. And he can make whatever endorsements he wants right where he is now.
Lebron's got the world on a platter...I just don't see how money from another team will make that better...it's still gonna be the same amount of money.

It comes down to winning, period. If we can make another Finals run and then Ferry/Gilbert demostrate to do what it takes to keep a championship level team here until another extension comes around, he won't leave.
Like someone already said, we can offer him an additional $30 million over any other team in the NBA. That's a lot of money to give up.
Endorsements? He's got them already.
It's about winning.
If he was so sure about leaving to NY/LA/CHI he wouldn't have signed the last extension.

I'm not totally versed in his endorsement deals.. but I seem to remember an escalator in his deals that he got more money if he was in one of the big markets... well, you know what? Those deals were written when he was still pretty new to the league. My guess is that when those deals are up for negotiations, he can just demand the top dollar and have those clauses removed... what is Nike going to do, drop him because he's not in NY?

There was *speculation* that Nike had an escalator clause in his contract that boosted his earnings if he were to play for a bigger media market. Probably from one of those trusty New York Times "sources". I've seen nothing concrete that it actually exists, and if it did ... why would he sign the extension?
Also that Nike contract is $80 million dollars ... doesn't that seem rediculously high enough already? Why would they want to offer him more?

The key is to emulate the Jordan model and create a brand recognition that lives on long after your playing days are over. Has anybody but Jordan ever done that? Most guys shoe deals (and other endorsements) go away as soon as (if not before) their playing days are over..... Well, unless you're Chuck Taylor...

Man, Delonte's shooting is reminding me of Hughes. He is 1-4 already after his 2-12 showing the other night.
That has to improve right away.

This post is to both you and LeBron. And thanks guys for talking basketball instead of that other garbage.
Detroit's guards are hard to guard. Hamilton gets the vast majority of his shots w/out the ball and Billups gets the vast majority of his shots w/the ball.
Both have pretty good size and can shoot over the top of you.
Billups is quite a bit stronger in the upper body than most guards and he can post your up, or rise over you w/contact.
Hamilton is very good at coming off screens on UCLA cuts and curls and then quickly stopping, rising, popping.
Hughes did a great job on Billups last year and I have never seen anyone defend him better. Snow is a very good defensive player and he matches up well w/Billups, but I don't know if he will see the floor much in the playoffs this year.
I think Rasheed's length would pose a problem for Ben. Rasheed keeps the ball high and really can shoot over the top of most guys. If he posted up more, he would be a beast. He's very skilled on the low block. I hope Andy is healthy, because he pesters and annoys Raheed and we need him against Detroit.
With all that said..........I think we can beat Detroit. I don't think they match-up well w/us when we have the ball. We have a lot of options up front and if we ever put Smith, Z, and LeBron in the game at the same time, there is no way they can defend us, especially if we add a sharp shooter like Booby or Wally into the mix. That's a crazy lineup and we couldn't use it long, due to the lack of D, but Detroit would not be able to defend us.
I also think that the Cavs aren't afraid of the Pistons anymore and that was a huge advantage before. I really think we can win the east.
You know what, guys? We really have a lot of flexibility now. The more I think about it, the more I like the trade.

I think so too.
Plus, you have some guys who were on contending teams ..... only to have those teams kinda fall apart, for whatever reasons. Wallace, Smith and Szczerbiak are all starting to get up there in age ... and all likely realize that a(nother) championship isn't guaranteed them. Moving from bad teams to a contending team has to pump you up. Then you add in a guy like West who wanted an opportunity, and now has one ..... plus the remaining players who see that the front office is going to do whatever they can to win a championship, and that they bring in some pretty respected guys like Wallace, Smith and Szczerbiak ...... and I think that players can't help but get excited.
Yeah, it was all they could talk about after the first game. It was nice to see. And I think almost every player in the league would love the chance to play w/LeBron. He makes them better, whether it be his passing or just the fact that he commands so much attention.
I think Wallace will be rejuvenated and you're right about Smith and Wally wanting the ring. West could be a diamond in the rough. I sure hope so. He could really be the deciding factor when all is said and done.

cavs leading in milwaukee, still somewhat of a close game
i know it's the bucks, and they're awful, just like memphis was, but we as cavs fans have got to be liking what we're seeing, our guys our battling, they're really trying to get a feel for one another...
the defense isn't there yet, but i think we'll be fine defensively once the playoffs...
and i love watching wally z, he hasn't been lights out, but he's fun to watch...
he does not hesitate at all to shoot a shot... whether he missed the last one or not... that's the kind of guy this team needed... how many times did you see larry hughes double clutch or just flat out hesitate before throwing up another brick?
and wally can post up down low, pretty big guy, i really like what he can give us...
and about wests' shooting... he hasn't found his shot yet, but he's also not taking a ton... that's the other thing that larry didn't give us, delonte seems like he still fits in the offense if he's not shooting well, because west can really push that ball up the court, that is going to be something nice to have come playoff time...
seems like he has a little more hop in his step than hughes does, but make no mistake, hughes' defense will be missed...

Our lack of perimeter defense is showing tonight ... I think Redd and Williams have over 50 points between them . Bucks up now, and have been on a decent run this 4th quarter.

Geeze, Michael Redd hits one from like 35 feet to win it ... The way we played in the 4th quarter, we really didn't deserve to win.

that was one hell of a shot, i have no problem losing like that, he was defended well enough, and from that far back, you take the odds of that
the last couple of times the cavs have lost the first game of a back to back, they have come back the next night to win it, hopefully we can see that tomorrow
but that is the mark of a very good team, to be able to bounce back

I donno about that ... if he misses it, we still have time for a rebound and putback. Also, they didn't have any timeouts ... we just refused to play any defense for the last 3 seconds.

I thought of that too after I posted it... but he's LBJ He should know better... of course, he should have taken a 3 pointer to win it at the buzzer haha... is that asking too much?

I agree that the Cavs aren't afraid of the Pistons. However, the Pistons won't be able to overlook the Cavs and I really see that team giving the Cavs trouble in a match-up. I do think Snow could better control Billups, but I don't think you can let him stay on the floor for any length of time because of his offense. Snow would play very well in late, situational, defensive situations where you can sub him out quickly. Outside that, his value is minimal.
By the way, I have a HUGE problem with Mike Brown's rotation in tonight's game. I understand that with Z out, he was limited in the post. But for six minutes in the fourth, he ran with Andy and Ben at the bigs. That is just begging teams to step out and double LeBron. I get that he probably didn't want to put Ben and Smith out there together more than was necessary, but they desperately needed some offense on the floor in the post and it took Brown way too long to recognize that.
Lastly, before I get too long-winded here, I really like Delonte West's game. His shot isn't there right now, but it has been over his career. But, even with the shot not really falling, look at his line tonight. Seven points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. He set the season-high for assists from our point guard position tonight and he doesn't even know the entire offense yet!!! He can be a little out of control at times, but he is 24, has good size, and is making plays. I really want to see him locked up as a Cav for a long time this offseason.

I'm not sure he had much of a choice. It's not like he could play Joe Smith for the entire game. When he needed a rest, it was Ben and Andy out there ... the only other option would be Dwayne Jones.
I think this game really highlighted our weaknesses: No post frontcourt offense if we have to play Andy/Ben ... and weak perimeter D. Hopefully we can get this ironed out in the next few weeks. I like the fact they were saying everything felt like training camp again. Gives me the feeling they have miles of improvement to go, and they are already looking pretty good.

Well it wasn't too hard to beat the PG assists high, considering who was playing there before.
Still, I like his game too and I agree with what you said ... he shows flashes of PG brilliance. Hopefully he can work out the kinks and get his shot to drop a little better. Frankly, I wouldn't care if he went 1-4 everynight as long as he was getting 10 or so assists a night.

I am by no stretch of the imagination a big Cavs fan, but I was flipping through the channels last night and caught the last 2 minutes of the game.
I have to say, Lebron looks like a man among boys out there. That layup he made to tie it up right at the end? I have NO idea how he got that off. There were 3 guys around him! I was jumping around and my wife was getting mad (she was trying to sleep).
Then, when Redd hit that shot, I just couldn't believe it! 9 times out of 10, he misses that shot. Wally was right in his face, didn't foul him, and Redd was so far back. Someone should have contested him dribbling up the court, but you don't want to risk a silly foul.
I have to say, I liked when they showed the huddle during one of the last timeouts, and you see the coach drawing on the board, showing a play. But, you see Lebron shaking his head "no". The next shot, it's Lebron doing the talking, and everyone's listening to him.
A lot of people will probably say this shows how cocky he is or that he's not a team player. In my mind, it reminds me of a Jordan type player. He knows he's good, and he knows they can't stop him if he wants to do something. Also, he knows that if he has the ball, he'll command attention, and he certainly isn't afraid to pass the ball to the open guy, which could easily happen if the defense comes to him. It's probably good he didn't pass right at the end because he didn't really have a clear passing lane.
What an ending! I wish the Cavs would have won, but it sure was exciting!
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I remember in the first year or so of LeBron's career when he got a lot of flack for not taking or not making game winning shots. He was settling for jumpers. He has finally realized that, while his shot has improved, it's not and never will be the strength of his game. Now he takes the ball to the hole if they need 2 or less.. if you need 3 you have to shoot for 3 but given the choice, LeBron is making much better choices in driving and finishing more often than kicking it out.

and he did not hesitate for a second when he drove to the hoop last night to tie it up...
and lebron changing the play... this was actually talked about last year, and it's why mike brown is a perfect guy for the cavs, he has absolutely no problem with lebron saying let's do plan b instead of plan a... there really is no ego problems between the 2 of them... lebron is out there, and he has a great feel for what he thinks can work or not, jordan was the exact same way, he was a coach on the floor...
and i agree, redd misses that shot 9 times out of 10, but for whatever reason, as soon as he got that thing off, i knew it was going in, it was a hell of a shot...
you really aren't supposed to defend like a glove that far back you just take the odds, but they actually did a decent job of contesting it, you tip your cap, and move on...

I agree, but it never should have gotten to that point. We played terrible in the 4th quarter after opening a decent sized lead.
