Can't they just start the damned race????

Pre-race telecast started at 3:30, and here it is 4:15 and we have yet to go Green.......it's always bad enough every year when we have the Daytona 500 pre-race show (last week) that runs for hours, but any more they drag it out each and every blessed week, for every race. Then they show a ton of commercials during the race!

Drop the flag. Let's go racin' boys!

That's why live racing is soooo much more fun, ya don't have the damn commercials. It's gonna soon be like football and there will be commercial yellow flags so that the sponser's can get their damn money.

She will so love it. I gotta say being raised on short track getting to see a NASCAR race after all these years was so damn incredible. The sounds and smells brought back so many memories of Saturdays at Midvale and Canton Speedway. My next goal is to get to an NHRA race and get some excellent pictures for my portfolio.

If I was you I would be happy for the delay, that means Gordons engine is lasting longer then expected.

I heard that as well, I think there waiting so Jeff Hammond can get his fake tan on, and then everything will be on schedule.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Kyle petty will not win this race.

Yeah, my bad......

When I started my whiny thread I only had it on in the background and wasn't paying attention to WHY the race was so long in starting....but they do drag it out too long, even when there is no reason to hold it up......

It drives me nuts that these things start later and later every year.

I understand the whole west coast thing, but I'd like the races to start at 1 like they used to when I first started watching.

BUT, I do like the dynamic of starting in the light and finishing at night cuz I like night racing.

I know I sound like I can't make up my mind but I liked the idea of not having to wait all day for a race to start.

EDIT: and rain delays in NASCAR are the worst cuz of the time it takes to dry the track.

I just started reading this thread, and I'm glad I finished reading it before I replied so I didn't say something like "nascar doesn't race on wet tracks", or something like that.......

The coverage was supposed to start at 3:30 I believe, and the race was originally set to start at 4. So really, that isn't that long of a pre-race show.

I personally find it boring. The sport has grown tremendously over the years, but I just can't figure out why. I guess everyone has their preferences. I have trouble getting interested in a lot of things on TV, so that probably has a lot to do with it. Short attention span. Cars just driving in circles just won't hold it.

I was just talking about this about an hour ago with my brother.

I enjoy the Indians, but can't watch baseball as a whole. While I'll watch any football game on TV because I love the game, I can only watch the Tribe play baseball. Just less excitement for me.

On top of that they still have yet to run the Busch race that got rained out yesterday. (or WTF they call it now. nationwide?) It's supposed to run after the Cup race today.

I love night racing too. They should run them all on Saturday night as far as I'm concerned......

No, that's not bad, if they stick to something like that every week...but they don't. You can never tell when a race is going to actually start by looking at the TV guide.

I started paying attention after 4 today and ZZTop was still playing and I wondered WTH is going on, and they usually have that thing in the corner of the screen that says RAIN DELAY and FOX isn't displaying that.

Speaking of which, I have tuned in late before and seen where they were showing an older race during a rain delay and thought it was live.....anyone else been screwed up by that?

That's why I turned the channel. One pet peeve of mine is when someone butchers the National Anthem. Makes me so sad to hear a bad rendition.

I live right next to Fontana (Upland). The weather is still mostly cloudy, but it is supposed to be clearing up. It is just patches of clouds.

I was watching at the local resturant while having a bite to eat, and the sky looked pretty blue just awhile ago, with a few clouds still hanging high!

Not that I am a NASCAR fan.......it was just the only thing on the TUBE in front of me at the time!

Bring on baseball, it is much more fun to watch than a bunch of cars going around in circles!

No disrepect for all you NASCAR fans......just my opinion!

I've had that happen, but fortunately, most of the races they show during rain delays come from long enough ago that one look at the cars tells you "hey, that's not live", but, yes, it has happened.

If you want history and nostalgia, go to Martinville, if you want comfort and modern amenities go to Richmond. Here a good analogy; Martinsville is like Muni while Richmond is like CBS.

Bristol is the best! (at least of the tracks I've been to).

Kinda sucks today for Mears, jr, and Hornish - all taken out because of a condition that could've/should've been taken care of prior to beginning the race.

And yes, I'm a BIG HORNISH fan.

Bristol is the best as far as watching the race, nothing compares to race week in Charlotte.

Amen. NASCAR should have called the race after the crash and re-started from scratch tomorrow with the cars involved in the wrecks being allowed to repair or pull out backup cars.

I have never seen a track, during a red flag stop that was called for a car being flipped over - go into "let's fix the track" mode.

The red flag was for Mears getting flipped over ON the track. Next thing you know, they are cutting grooves in the track??????? B.S.

Mears, jr, and Hornish all ought to be complaining, as well as anyone else that was involved in the wrecks.

So they said they were gonna go green at midnight eastern.

Then they said the same at 1.

Now they're saying they'll update us at 2 AM.

This is a circus...ridiculous.

I should go to bed now so I can watch the finish when I wake up!
